Ep 197 Script

R: (barges into cell) alright kiddos, mommy’s back.  pack up your shit and let’s get some breakfast already.

K: they - you PASSED the interrogation??

R: shush, bodyguard, your employer is talking. we merely explained our situation, how you are currently escorting the three of us back to our ancestral homes from a Council-ordered reconnaissance mission to Kooup.

S: what - (ree makes face) - ah, yes, come bodyguard, body…guard us?

K: yes. of course. right this way, sir. (to ree: i thought we were hiding me being redguard?)

R: (those who need to know, know, but otherwise keep your wings in. they think we were on a covert mission so roll with it)

C: i do not know how you managed to pull that off, but i will not question the High Crow’s decisions. you will be led to the guest quarters where you may rest until the High Crow has further questions for you. in the meantime, you will be treated as guests, but i strongly suggest you do not go wandering around unescorted. I will be keeping an eye on you. a close eye.

R: well, it beats a prison cell.

F: not too shabby.

K: right, now WHAT did you tell them?!

R: (looks at farrah) just a few truths, and more lies. that High Crow’s a smart bastard and im sure he saw through us but left it for the time being, so i wouldnt be surprised if he’s just coming up with a better way to deal with us.

F: or, he’ll hopefully realise we’re too much trouble to deal with and just send us on our way.

R: here’s hoping. anyway, i need a nap - (opens side door, sees 2 beds.) ah. looks like we’ll have to share.

F: im so tired i dont care where i collapse at this point.

R: r-right. wake me up if food arrives will ya.

ree leaves. scra looks at ky

K: go ahead. i wont be able to sleep, anyway.

S: you should get SOME rest -

K: ill be fine, dont worry about me. ill get them to bring food.

S:...ok. thanks.

(ree nightmares about farrah falling. ree goes to main room to see ky awake by window)

R: still up?

K: i didnt sleep.

R: i can see that, mr. eyebags. the whole bodyguard thing is just a cover, you know. you dont have to actually act like one.

K: i explained everything to scra. everything.

R: and now your brain’s keeping you awake, i see.

K: do you…need me to tell you, too?

R: …no. if i have questions ill ask, but i can prob guess at most of it. but…you’re a deserter, aren’t you? from Redguard? that’s why you say you’re not one, anymore.

K: And you know why the choice to go back to Avarie took me so long to make.

R: they’ll kill you, Ky. why risk this when you don’t even have your sister to bring back.

K: i shot the Director, i was dead if i stayed, too. at least it’s easier to hide on Avarie than on Kooup with all the tracking and monitoring.

R: you dyed your feathers for the mission to save Keelee, right?

K: some habits die hard. it was stupid, i’d already deserted, but once you’re a Redguard you’re one for life.

R: because leaving is punishable by death.

K: yeah. the Director allowed me to do it, for my last mission to save my sister. she mocked me for it once, asking if ill redye them after molting (ep 89), knowing that it was against Redguard creed to do so, and that failure in the mission wasnt an option. they were a constant reminder of what i was doing it all for, as well as a timer. she gave me until i shed all the feathers to please her enough to return my sister to me. of course she planned to use that time to her advantage, with no plan to ever return her, im sure. but there was nothing else i could do but play along. she knew about Redguard, knew our laws, and used them to get what she wanted.

R: we’ll get your sister back.

K: you dont…have to stick around, anymore. we’re back, you can go home to your families. we’re nothing to each other off the Island. Especially after everything.

R: You’re still my friend, Ky. we’ve all done fucked-up things, but i dont want anything to change. if anything, now it’s all out in the open it’ll be nice to quit having to lie to each other, the stress was getting to me.

K: speaking of…what’s going on with you and the Sparrow? Farrah?

R: (show smile) i dont want to make up some lie for you so that’s…something im gonna have to save till another day, buddy. I’m not even sure myself, honestly. one thing at a time, yeah?

K: alright. food?

R: YES, please Icarus, im dying here.

K: (smiles) thanks, ree.

R: no problem, man. no problem.
