People hate on Usopp for "not being brave" because he's a coward... But I personally think that he's way more courageous because he's a coward. It's easy to go into a fight if you're a confident badass but he's a terrified weakling and still chooses to fight anyway. I think that takes way more courage

The biggest part of this scene in the anime is Usopp having the inner monologue with himself about giving up. He intended to lie there and wait for him to leave, then get up and make an excuse. He talked himself into being brave. In the live action they make the fake death into part of his plan to win. That’s a big distinction in my opinion.
