I appreciate ASWT’s approach because it means I’m not scrambling to keep up as much like I have to do with some franchises. I get where you’re coming from of course. I’m not meaning to criticize your question as much as I just want to say I appreciate that there is breathing room - for me and also hopefully for Alex & Josh - between the content they release. : )

I could be wrong and they’re just taking a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG break from IWaV. Never say never. However this is my fear! They only have 12, 13, and 14! I really want them to watch it. They would love the twists and turns for real!!!!!!!!! 🤞 that’s my hope too… that KP is just so extra that they need a breather but will get to it. 👍

When they haven't wanted to finish a series (Love Victor) they said so...I just think they are super busy and with KP there is a lot to unpack...so to speak. Whereas, Heart Stoppers is pretty much lightweight compared to KP. KP is as rollercoaster ride of emotion....lol. But it is SOOO good! I guess they will let us know what is up. Let's just hang in there.....

I'm also not blaming anybody in the entertainment industry for trying to keep their romantic relationships private. It's totally understandable why they would want to protect their significant others from the circus. I give this explanation only because no one had explained the industry to me when I first started following Thai BLs, which led me to a lot of misinterpretations early on. I was very confused why so many actors stated they were single but also engaged in so much PDA with each other on social media.

They met on a survival tpop idol show in 2021 called Laz icon (then placed 1st and 2nd and became the tpop group Laz1 with 3 other members). Literally during that time (no bl couple) they're friends would always say they were dating and they always referred to themselves as partners. During covid they even quarantined together. The staff of Laz icon said they had to cut out a lot of their kisses and sweet moments because they were worried about the homophobia they would face. (which they've dealt with a lot, even on the col set they were called slurs and s/a) Daou wrote a song about their first kiss called "before nubdao" (Nubdao is their fandom name now). He admitted this year that song is for Offroad. Besides that they also said this yr their first kiss was 2-3 yrs ago, which was during Laz icon Skipping through all the way to late 2023 when they finally act in their first bl "Love in Translation": Love in translation was written for and loosely based on them. Offroad said it is supposed to show what "partner" means to them. Something changed between them and Lit shows what changed "what they really are". They've said things like "we are celebrities so we can't date, but we can love each other" (although recently when Offroad was asked who his faen was he pointed to Daou). They have couple diamond rings they literally wear all the time Honestly there is so much info to their backstory I can barely say any of it. The best way to learn abt them is @Nubdaoor on tiktok "legendary moments" playlist. Start from part 1 to go in order, it shows their whole journey.

Re: Actors' sexualities: Tong (Tankhun) is one of a very small number of out actors in the Thai BL industry. The vast majority are undeclared and keep any relationships--with men or women--private for as long as they can. There is incentive in the Thai BL industry for actors to keep their sexualities ambiguous. Most actors in leading roles are cast and marketed as couples. They don't just act as love interests in one series; the same two actors will be paired as a romantic couple in *every* series they're in, and they are often paired together for brand endorsements, etc., as well. Many engage in "fan service," which in this context is actors in a marketed couple flirting or expressing intimacy with one another on social media and at events in a way that invites fans to imagine that the actors may be dating one another in real life, without actually stating anything definitive. The reason fan service exists is because it makes money. At least the really dedicated BL fans tend to be more engaged with marketed couples than individual actors. However, there also tends to be a sizeable "solo fan" subset, who are only interested in one of the actors in the couple and are usually invested in believing that actor is straight (and single). Fan service, when done correctly, can play to both crowds. Production companies embrace the whole marketed couple/fan service system, because it makes them more money, but it tends to be a really important source of income for the actors. The actors are typically paid very little for their actual acting roles and earn their keep through fan engagement and brand endorsements. BL fans give actors lavish gifts: designer clothing, jewelry, gold bars, cash, you name it. Brands give endorsement deals to actors with big fan followings. When an actor in a marketed couple like this is revealed to have a girlfriend, superfans break out the torches and pitchforks. This recently happened to Mile (Kinn), though I would argue that Mile and Apo kept their fan service pretty mild and friendship-y in comparison to others. There is also often a lot of drama if a marketed couple "breaks up" professionally and get paired with other actors. This recently happened to Bible (Vegas) and Build (Pete)--though I don't recommend going down that particular rabbit hole of why that happened. Suffice it to say, Build isn't working with Bible or with this production company anymore, and I would be very surprised if any BL production company decided to pick him up. All that said, I think it's fair to say that Apo (Porsche) is undeclared for reasons that have nothing to do with fan service. He's not playing with ambiguity; he just flat-out says he's comfortable with who he is and his sexuality is nobody else's business. Prior to KinnPorsche, Apo had been a mainstream actor in lakorns--similar to prime-time soaps. When he was in his early 20s, a TV show host basically tried to out him during a fluff interview promoting his series. Apo has been open about the fact that the lakorn production companies all asked him if he was gay and policed his mannerisms (off screen) for being too effeminate. He's also said that Be On Cloud, the production company that put out the final version of KinnPorsche, was the first company he'd worked for that told him they didn't care what his sexuality was, they just wanted him to be himself and be happy.

I love the darkness and character complexity. the acting is also soooo well done! it makes the show more interesting. i didn't care for KinnPorsche since their first kiss and first 2 sexual moments were done with Porsche unable to consent due to being under the influence while Kinn was sober. it put a nasty taste in my mouth since they are shown as the "good" relationship. but Vegas is portrayed as being toxic and so when he is, I just love it. haha if Vegas acted that way and it was portrayed as a good thing then i wouldn't like it. but Bible is sooo good at playing Vegas and I am obsessed!

Understood the series darker theme and enjoyed the main plot up till ep 10. I have already recommended on discord but I think Only Friends would be a fun watch next and something more fluff like Semantic Error would be cute too. 🥰🙊

Neither one is a great person, but they relate to each other. And Kim, that one is so painful to me because I love Jeff Satur, he’s a brilliant musician and his voice is beautiful, but gosh I hate Kim. Kim and Chay did not have to happen for him to get answers, but he let it and used Chay, who is pitiful. It’s really messed up as a relationship though because did Chay love Kim or did he love Wik? Either way, first love hits the hardest. I’m glad they can use KinnPorsche as a foil for the other messed up ships, because those two finally got their shit together. Also about the hair drying, it’s hard to remember this is your first BL and then you make comments about things like that. Hair drying for a lover, giving them a sponge bath when sick, them getting sick after being in rain, a sudden moment of the main actor performing a song…all very popular tropes in Thai BLs.

"We're coworkers and friends", and then someone posts a picture and they see a reflection or hand and decide THAT is the truth and then get mad when it's not and go absolutely feral. But yeah, I agree with your overall point. It's not a healthy industry for the actors. Actually, if I'm being honest, I think the reason I get most mad at those fans is a selfish one. We all end up missing out when the actors decide they don't want to play the game anymore. I miss seeing them together at events. They were great reps for Thailand and bl.

2024-10-04 14:10:53 +0000 UTCAgreed ,but I still think they very much presented themselves as more than friends in a lot of stuff they posted about themselves and personally, I don’t care, it’s their business whatever their relationship is or isn’t, but I can understand why some fans felt that they had been manipulated, especially when Mile posted, ‘I’m sorry’ when he made it look as though he hadn’t been on holiday with his girlfriend. People felt that he had kept that relationship a secret for a long time and repeatedly denied it even existed, for the sake of appearing not to be straight. Again, just reinforces the pressures on BL actors, to present themselves in a particular way, when they’re promoting the show, in fan meets and in so-called ‘off-screen’ moments, which are actually all part of selling the package. It’s a pretty brutal business, BL, in my opinion, however enjoyable and entertaining the show is.

I always felt they were honest about not being together. I watched all their interviews and thought, finally, bl actors not pretending they're more than friends. I dont remember one where I ever thought they were hinting at a relationship together. Like couple photos just means a photo of them together. They weren't using the phrase as in a romantic couple. This feels like an English miscommunication. Fans seem to desire these couples to move off-screen and project their fantasies and I've never understood why. It's a job. They're actors.

2024-10-03 20:38:24 +0000 UTCI think fans went crazy, as you say, but perhaps the reason was that Mile and Apo always said they didn’t do fan service and actually disapproved of fan service, presenting themselves in several interviews as ‘together’, talking about their ‘couple moments’ and ‘couple photos’, yet it then appeared that Mile was actually on holiday with a long-standing girlfriend when he had posted to make it seem that he was elsewhere; posts were apparently contrived to make it seem that he and Apo were on dates together, etc. All this is interesting because if any of it is actually true at all, it underlines the pressure on actors in BL shows to act irl as a couple with their BL acting partner, whether they are together off screen or not. It’s not the only pressure by any means, because stories have emerged more than once about BL actors being expected to undergo surgery or cosmetic procedures to conform to audience expectations, even against their wishes. Fan service is kind of written in to the contract explicitly or implicitly, but when Mile and Apo stated that they were not giving fan service and then it emerged that MileApo wasn’t real, a lot of fans felt that they had been taken for fools and had been betrayed by some clever and creative slight-of-hand by both actors and even members of Mile’s family. Almost as entertaining as KinnPorsche, but it does beg some serious questions about the pressures on BL actors and possibly explains why so many actors are breaking up with their BL partners or even quitting their production company completely.

2024-10-03 11:26:28 +0000 UTCYeah when everyone was warning about the show getting dark its the last arc in the final episodes where it really shows. A great reaction from you guys and lots of very good comments on relationships. As you mentioned with the Porchay and Kim kiss scene not only was it only a cheek kiss because of Porchay's actor (Barcode) being underage, but Kim's actor is nearly a decade older (27 at time of filming but Jeff Satur got that baby face) and was not comfortable doing more and is very protective of Barcode. An interesting VegasPete fact is that the belt scene actually was method acting. Vegas (Bible) really did hit Pete (Build) with the belt. Not nearly as hard as the show make it seems but I think there was a bruise from it. I do also want to stress that this show is really an exception to the rules in the world of BL. I would say 8/10 BLs are lighter more tame storylines and, while some do have their problematic moments, are usually more lighthearted and fluffy. I do hope that you try another BL in the future (Maybe a Korean or Japanese one) that would let you have a more relaxing time.

It’s tempting to see Vegas as simply The Villain, damaged by his abusive father whom he always disappoints, but in my opinion the writers were having a lot of fun with layering when it came to Vegas’s character…. Can’t wait to see your faces in the final episodes. And will you be applauding or saying, ‘What the hell?!’ 😂🤯

2024-10-03 07:12:46 +0000 UTCGenerally agree! Tbh, I do have morally black/grey characters that I enjoy (Lestat, Hannibal, Loki, Kilmonger). I don’t even hate Vegas, I just think his scenes with Pete, especially in this episode, are particularly brutal and hard to watch. Similarly to other characters I like, I enjoy Vegas the most not when he’s being “good” or “bad” but in between. Funny quips, poignant one liners, flamboyant or flirty behavior, being a general nuisance, and fucked up but logical philosophies are all things I associate with villains and antiheroes that make them enjoyable. Maybe they aren’t trying to justify it but I think it feels like it/can be easily misinterpreted because of how rushed their storyline is (trying to comment this without giving any spoilers). Especially when it’s side by side with Kinn and Porsche and Kim and Porchay, who get to develop over the course of pretty much the entire season.

I feel like they may explain why he is the way he is, but I don't think they intend to excuse it. It's like watching the show Dexter. It's entertaining but you're not supposed to like Dexter. I feel like antiheroes have become so popular these days that we try to identify with evil characters too much and have started struggling with the idea that some ppl are just evil and can still be interesting. Stockholm Syndrome is NOT about falling in love with a captor as it is sold to us. Actually, Stockholm Syndrome is not even a legitimate disorder or diagnosis, as it’s not recognized by the ICD (the International Classification of Diseases) or the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders). It’s highly controversial and contested by the community and its use in pop culture it’s: actually pretty harmful, because it trivializes the actually known phenomena regarding abuse and power dynamics. There are even theories that SS was debated as a way to add another bias to female victims. One of the key elements of SS is the refusal to cooperate with the police, which was what it caught the attention of the people who proposed it. It was first observed in a bank robbery with hostages who would not cooperate with the police and then was further supported by other hostage situations. But, it can be explained by the lack of trust in the police, especially by female victims, due to their history of disbelief and even risking hostages. The entire profile around SS created in pop culture is actually extremely harmful and trivializes responses to abuse. But it’s also wrong in its own proposed hypothesis for Stockholm Syndrome. We say SS is when a hostage falls in love or bonds with a captor but it’s not that. Yes, it is forming a psychological bond to the captor, but it was postulated as somehow adapting and adopting to their ideals, rather than keeping a relationship. The hostage begins accepting their reasoning for capture and their values, agreeing with them, thus humanizing the captor and ceasing to see them as a threat. And this can only happen if the hostage did not know the captor prior to abduction. But there’s no personal or romantic connection involved. Now, it is complicated to prove and research, but FBI data showed less than 10% of abduction victims showed similar behavior, and when excluding those who just mistrusted the police, it went down to 5%. The famous pop culture coverage of it and the “diagnosis” of famous characters, such as Bella from Beauty & the Beast spreads SS as something real, but it’s not really. Many believe it falls under the category for trauma bonding or PTSD, others still think it was postulated with a lot of biases. And, it was already written that despite the huge media coverage on the subject, there’s been almost no research done. As I said, it’s not on the DSM, which is wild because the DSM is on its Fifth Revised Edition and since the first release, it went from 60 to nearly 300, which a lot of people believe contributes to the current wave of over-diagnosing. And yet, SS is not in it. Not saying there’s nothing psychological happening to explain Pete’s behavior and what happens with him and Vegas, but it would not be SS, bc not only it’s not a validated syndrome, but they knew each other prior, Pete’s doesn’t adopt his values or ideals. I was like: lol rich people do this shit :) also the Shakespeare thing, sounded like him, but also I would never see Pete was one to have a Shakespeare tattoo, so I never clocked it. Tbh I don’t think the quote goes with his character at all, felt super random. The jealousy thing was dumb for me too lol especially because they were incompetent too, also maybe get a girl then, you know he ain’t interested. I’m not a fan of the VegasPete arc, it just didn’t convince me (mostly due to Pete tbh) but I always find it hilarious that my reasons for not liking it are the opposite of most people’s. I am very aware of the implications and the dddne, but it just didn’t engage me and I don’t find the love part believable. But people shocked with it blame it on BL as if Hannibal and IWTV don’t exist.

It's old fashioned and, to me, kinda icky. You do a good job of judging characters more on their actions than on how they look, which is admirable. I think there's a conversation to be had on 'Pretty Privilege'. How much do we let Vegas get away with because he looks like that?

I love to see Kinn and Porsche so in love and being so cute together. I sad for Porshay, Kinn’s younger brother broke Porchay’s heart. Excited to see how the series ends.❤️🏳️🌈

I can see how that might resonate with this story.

Because Vegas is being played by Bible, many fans like to hand-wave away Vegas' worst traits due to that personal bias. You can hate Vegas and still love Bible, just saying.

It shows in the credits . By the way, the nice date was Kinn's birthday gift to Porsche (we fans know it as the "turbulence") . What you could have spotted too : Pete's honesty /legacy tatoo is a direct quote from Shakespeare, from All's Well That Ends Well . The book that falls on the ground when Vegas gets slapped by his father on the terrace is Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke (many think it's his best novel) . Good on you for noticing the symbolic importance of lighting in the Vegas/ Pete arc. ... I agree that the whole episode feels chaotic (when Porsche is jealous and picks lame bodyguards is my very least favourite moment of KP, I struggle with that kind of humour) . It may be due to the heavy rewriting and changes that happened because 1: the production was stopped when Filmania dropped the series, then it resumed when BeOnCloud production took over . But they recast some actors, rewrote many scenes and filmed them again with new directions . 2: Secondly the original novels were truly dark and twisted, full of non consent and the characters were nasty, including Kinn and Porsche, so the script writers toned it down a lot and had to make the characters more likeable and relatable.

As for the actor´s sexuality, Tong the actor who plays Tankhun, is an out gay man who has an adopted son. On the other hand Apo (Porsche) has always been questioned by people in the entertainment busness, making him feel very unconfortable. During an interview he clearly stated that he has no intention of clarifying what his sexuality is and that no one should ask or demand that informtion from him or anyone else either. On another note, remember there are 14 episodes in total, so there are three left not two.
