Night City Legend Chapter 18

We ran for literally two hours out of the mountain and to make sure we were out of the range of any of those damned rail gun emplacements hidden god knows where in the those mountains.

And as we were waiting outside a small country town on the outskirts the mountains that was a tourist trap for rich people wanting access to some 'nature'. Our vision was destroyed as a flare of blinding light exploded over the horizon of the mountains in the distance.

"Fuck!" I cursed as the flash of light made my cybernetic eye's register errors before I paused as I realized what that flash of light was.

'A fucking nuke? What the hell happened? Did NUSA try to nuke Mothman or something?' I thought in utter confusion as I didn't think they would nuke the mountains just because some short lived bio-weapons were running around.

Though a soft voice whispered in my mind and made me shiver at the thought. 'What if those weren't short lived bioweapons and now the whole area needs to glassed?'

"White! ETA on extraction!?" I demanded as my vision refreshed itself thankfully.

It was 2B who answered with a clear frown in her voice. "Comms are down. Radiation and magentic interference is cutting off communications with the Bunker. The jet should still be five minutes out though." 

"Fucking shit... Then we can't move then. We can't miss this jet unless we want to walk back with how every fucking asshole in the world will be looking at this nuke going off!" I cursed before dragging a hand across my face.

Honestly this world was looking to be more and more trouble then it was worth. I needed to expanded YoRHa a thousand times over and become the fucking dictator and god king of this world before these dumbasses literally destroyed said world.

Because to say nothing of the nuke happy Vault-tec that lived for war crimes, but there was Umbrella considering how to poison the world in their vision of creating some sort of perfect humanity. And the rest of the damned Mega-Corps needed to go as well.

'Maybe the God-Emperor had the right of things... Let humanity burn itself to ashes before taking over as their Emperor.' I mused with a sigh escaping me before I shunted the thought aside.

But now with nothing but my mind to waste time as we hid inside an abandonded building. I began mentally recalling all my Fallout knowledge as I knew that I needed to get on that eldritch bullshit.

'Hmm so Dunwich Mining company needs to be purged as their leadership has been mentally corrupted by... That eldritch entity, I probably should make this a priority and not even bother returning home honestly.' I thought with a heavy frown as there was so much to do now actually.

First the mining company that was being used to unearth long lost eldritch worship sites needed to be slaughtered down to the man. Then I needed to destroy those sites in question, along with retrieving any eldritch artifacts and destroy them as well.

Still as worried as I was, I needed more than anything to expand YoRHa and it's means.

A crackle made my entire face twitch before my internal systems rang out in warning. [Ambient radiation rising!]

I sighed as the couple dozen YoRHa androids threw me clearly anxious looks before 2B spoke firmly. "Jake stand in the center, we will surround you so you won't be as exposed to the radiation."

"I don't think that's how it works 2B." I said with my lips twitching as but my words fell on deaf audio receptors as the androids aggressively surrounded me with their mechancial frames while a couple others hurriedly moved rotting mats and beds in front of the broken windows to help block out the radiation.

Thankfully however. Our backup stealth jet's still loud engine hit our ears all to soon and without an fanfare the jet came down for a quick landing and we all ran into the jet before it quickly took off the moment we closed the jet door.

A crackle hit my 'ears' as my back hit the chair and White's voice entered my mind through my Cyberdeck. "Jake, things has spiraled out of control as our actions were the tipping point between Umbrella and Vault Tech. The fifth Corporate War has officially started with that nuke." 

I groaned out loud and then demanded. "What the fuck happened? We stole a project that was between NUSA, Militech, and Vault Tech. Why did Umbrella get nuked?"

White's unamused voice then rang out flatly. "The surviving scientists, mercs, and recordings found clearly 'superhumans' with no clear cybernetics assaulting their facility after a wave of mutated monstrous bioweapons attacked due to personnel there not carrying the virus that leaked into the area." 

"So... We didn't even need to actively divert everyone's attention to Umbrella? Now NUSA just thinks Umbrella decided to steal their super weapon that could destroy the fucking world?" I said slowly in realization as this was...

Just fucking perfect honestly! The world was looking up for me now!

But White's response made my joy turn stone cold as she said clinically. "You are correct Jake... However, Umbrella is not taking being made the scape goat well. Thousands have already died as Umbrella's bioweapons have left their secret containments in various cities and have wrecked havoc, including within Night City."

A curse escaped me before I dragged a hand across my face at the thought before I said firmly. "Alright, time for clean up time then. I want a new squad and the armored carriers ready for when I get back. Also have agents try to ping Maine's crew along with David and his mom. I want to know if they are still alright."

I was only able to talk to White right now due to the systems in the ship that were sending our communications through a laser signal that was able to peirce through the information black out and radiation in the area.

"Very well. Though when you get back, I must insist that you go through a thorough decontamination process so that any radiation can be washed off you." White almost demanded and you know what...

That was fair enough.
