Cursed to Infinity Chapter 27

As for why I didn't have Ui Ui with me as a safety net was simply because I was going to have Ui Ui and Mei Mei publicly appearing in Tokyo while I will still be laying low here in the slums of the Kyoto city state near the walls.

"This is..." I drew off with a shiver as after Ui Ui teleported away after dropping off Alyx and Anya with me.

The surrounding area was 'normal' despite being in the slums and Alyx spoke quietly. "You would think that being around the walls that are enchanted to keep monsters, animals, demons, spirits and other horrors out of Kyoto would be the safest."

Then Anya continued with a voice filled with a tired defeat. "But Kyoto's walls are an egg basically... A hard, unbreakable shield in all reality, but on the inside? There isn't any suppression on the monsters and such except at and near Kyoto Tech and some other special factions buildings."

And seeing as those special places were all in the center of the MANY leylines that ran through Kyoto in the center of the city specifically. It made more sense that the slums would be the furthest from the center of the city.

"And in this area filled with the suffering of the poor and downtrodden... Curses will be born from those negative emotions. To say nothing of dumbasses reaching out to demons that will bypass the walls surrounding Kyoto." I said with a groan in realization.

Still I took a deep breath to whisper a couple words of the Thuu'm that would make my hair grow longer to better disguise myself even if I didn't want to actually change my features at all.

"Well come on Jake... Let's go home." Anya said with something in her voice as she took my arm and I paused mentally as I was actually just wondering where I should lay low for a good bit.

"Wait if people are going after me. Wouldn't going to your old families home be a terrible idea?' I asked in clear confusion.

And without looking at me as she and her sister took my arms to pull me. Anya said quietly. "It's another abandonded home just down the street of our old home... When the curse formed that killed other sister and our parents. It killed the families of several other nearby homes as well."

I didn't have anything to respond to that obviously. 

So we just kept walking out of the hidden alleyway that Ui Ui teleported us into and I noticed quickly that there weren't any cameras on the street corners or anything?

Only those angled mirrors that allowed you to see past the slightly above head height walls that were so common for houses in Japan were around.

'Hmm it's possible that having camera's everywhere is an active detriment obviously... Builds up fear as the curses and such are captured on the cameras.' I mused to myself before a soft crackle of something hard hitting stone/concrete.

I looked over and my eye's landed on an oversized bat with crimson skin that was climbing over the roof of a nearby building.

"Well that's a demon's familiar," I muttered before I formed a small ball of cursed energy at the tip of my finger, before shooting it out at the clear demonic familiar that had picked up the scent of my thick spiritual energy.

The familiar squealed as the ball of dark blue cursed energy slammed home into its side and sent it flying off the roof of the building,g and I just shook my head as we kept moving.

We quickly made our way to 'the street' and I knew it was the place when the two girls paused in unison as we walked by a certain house that had a wreck second-floor window that had been boarded up.

"That window is where the curse broke into our house. Anya and I were downstairs watching a movie in the living room and fell asleep down therewhich saved us as after it... After killing our family, the cries of the baby in the next house next door made it leave our house and go to the neighbors, allowing us to survive." Alyx spoke with a sigh.

"Where is everyone else?" I asked the real question as after this ten-minute walk we had only seen like two people who were all but running for their houses to get off the street.

And Anya answered my question with a scoff as she said hatefully. "Where else? They are hiding in their homes, praying for those bastards at the Hunter's Guild or the Devil Association to come kill whatever demon is preying on this area." 

The two then brought me towards another house that wasn't torn up or otherwise boarded up, and Anya got a key for the door out from under a rock next to the door in the front garden.

And as we walked into the house I was hit with the musty smell of an unlived in house that had been left to fester with no real air flow for like at least a few months.

"Well, we can air out the windows at least." I muttered before I took a picture of the houses internal area's so that Ui Ui could teleport there and after a moment of thought... I wondered something idly.

'What's the likelihood that there are trackers in my clothes and bedding back home?'

Yeah, the thought hit a little too close to comfort and then my lips twitched as I had a fucking list of messages from my coworkers and the Kyoto hospital management that were 'politely' pissed that people were keeping me from curing people that modern medicine couldn't unfuck.

"The futons are fine. We need to just take them outside into the back patio and smack the dust off of them." Anya spoke quietly as she came back downstairs and I jolted a bit as she just leaned her head on my shoulder.

I looked back over at Alyx as well and I knew this was going to be a bit of an emotional closure event being near their old home. Still, I said with a bit more firmness. "Good, then lets get that and airing out the house a bit done. Thankfully, it's late fall,l so it won't get hot tonight as we don't have any power." 

As we moved to get the house ready for us to live in for the next week at most... I couldn't help but feel the invisible eye's following my movements as I went outside each time to help the girls clean out the futons.

But I wasn't afraid of some low-ranking demon that was skulking in the slums... No, I was afraid of who and what would come if I made too much noise crushing said demon.
