Sword is equal to Wand poll
Added 2025-03-12 23:30:47 +0000 UTCGot an important poll for you guys as I considering that Jake's future as the Library of Heaven's Path has some tricks that require Jake to be teaching other's to gain some cheats in getting things like instant enlightenment and other things like upgrading the Library itself.
So you guys get to choose his primary weapon or offensive means.

As long as it's not a sword I don't care I'm getting really sick of that weapon showing up everywhere

2025-03-13 05:11:33 +0000 UTCpersonally i would have gone with a poleaxe or bec de corbin as a primary weapon then sword of some type for a sidearm and a knife then i would be set if you do go with a spear dont make it a normal spear make something like a japanese yari or one of its variants like a jumonji yari or a katakama yari or a partisan or a corseque these types of spear are heavier but they are not limited to just thrusting they can be used for slashing as well and even be used to hook an opponents weapon or part of their body or armor and some of them like the katakama can cause injury on both the thrust and when you retract due to the side blades catching the side of an enemies neck or body or catching the back of the neck or head if you hook them even if they have a helmet and armor you still have some control over their body and can potentially throw them off balance you could also go with a glaive like the naginata, guandao or the fauchard regardless of whether or not it is a spear or polearm of some type make sure the shaft has some metal stripes inlaid into at least 2 sides of it from the spearhead or whatever the business end is downward for a foot or more this way the shaft is reinforced and much more difficult to break or chop through you will often see this on European polearms granted this wont matter if you decide to make the whole thing out of metal or something like that

2025-03-13 03:23:19 +0000 UTCI'm thinking the draupnir spear from God of War Ragnarok

2025-03-13 02:45:45 +0000 UTCSpear is faster and easier to learn compared to the other choices

2025-03-13 02:10:52 +0000 UTCFighting a vampire or werewolf i would be wary of them just grabbing the haft of the spear. Or a regular monster just stepping on the haft. Sad that the saber is last, its probably the best option there for fighting fast, unarmored enemies you don't want to touch with your hands

2025-03-13 02:05:54 +0000 UTCI voted spear, but having it be more of a bladed staff would fit

2025-03-13 01:50:36 +0000 UTCSword cultivator are pretty much the poster boy of xianxia, author wouldn't make there Mc lose and it's easier to write a sword fight.

2025-03-13 01:30:14 +0000 UTCI voted for spear, but a long distance fighter with a bow or chakram would have been better.

2025-03-13 01:27:18 +0000 UTCeven though I choose spear i will point out with library of heavens path he could easily be come skilled in almost any weapon so its possible to have him able to use others but have his preference/main be a spear I'll also point out swords are typically the most common in cultivation novels with majority of people so there will be alot fewer spear users to teach unless you make magic staff/spear foci a normal ish thing then I could see the majority of magic users using them Also would prefer it to be more of a polearm naginata/halberd kind of thing just makes more sense to me if you run into larger monsters and such a spear would only really be good at poking holes in them while the others offer more ability to slash some of the fantasy ish leaf bladed kind of spears could work too

2025-03-12 23:53:32 +0000 UTCFunny thing about spears; they are just staffs with a sharp attachment on one end (and maybe a metal cap on the back end for ballance). In the OG Harry Potter setting, staffs were just upsized wands, more power output for less control (not a good tradeoff for the original setting due to everything running off precision. However, in this cultivation version power matters).

2025-03-12 23:35:37 +0000 UTCThere is a reason sword cultivators are so powerful the main character from desolate era even mastered all other Dao's at the end ^^ (one of my favorite stories)
