I keep talking about the excess of post process in the current scenario of things. Whatever comes easy is also prone to excess ? I interact with a lot of creators who are at various levels of popularity in their fields, and almost everyone agrees that in commercial work, the pisctures need to be absolutely professionally next level post processed. There is nothing that the photographer or the model can decide or ask for, it is absolutely the client who will decide this, and he wants a spank rocking image.
Now my question is who is this person representing the client, what are his credentials and what is his understanding about the creative form, and also what is his sensitivity to the social impact these overtly post processed images have on the aaam addmi. Does he realise the pressure on people who are trying to become or expecting others to become as perfect as the unreal image .
I still do not have answers for this.
I have put out 3 images above. One is as shot, Second is cleaned up for acne and marks , Third is post processed for skin texture. Now mind you this edit has taken me half a minute, of course a more professional thorough edit could take some of these guys an hour or more depending upon what needs to be done. So my point is now it is taking lesser and lesser time to “perfect “ an image. So in that light my question of whether we should edit at all, remains an entirely humane, social and ethical question. Should we continue to put out flawless skin, flawless perfection.
