when you start off as a photographer, it is like a new born baby, discovering everything with equal enthusiasm. once you start growing depending upon hereditary and external influences you swing to some more than others. while most will not find their calling all their life, cos they are busy looking at someone else and constantly changing inspirations and aspirations.
however, quite a few do find their calling and some are lucky enough to pursue it practice it or dabble with it. it is exactly same with photographers i feel. While there are those who are constantly looking at or comparing to other photographers from or other genres and floating in a state of jack of all.
for me my love for photography started with a culture riot that i was exposed to annually right at an early age, to then architecture due to my work related travels, and then to nude and boudoir portraiture.
i believe this is not only my calling, but also the only genre i want to collaborate with, my other two favorites need no collaborations. So as i shot more and more of nudes and boudoir and portraiture, my style has became more more focused, narrower and confident. I now do not want to create for the sake of creating. I do not want to work with collaborators who are not willing to go all out with me i do not want to work with unsure people who say lets us see how we vibe and go with the flow. I have seen that it gets us nowhere. while i may end up making pictures that they love, there is nothing in them that could go in my book or my exhibition some day. i would like atleast one photograph from each of my shoots make it to my books and exhibitions.
so yes, i feel variety and versatility is for models who can shoot with various photographers to create a beautiful varied body of work where they are not typecast. but as a photographer, i feel i am looking to be type cast, to create something new within the confines.
