Today's world of Social Media, though may sound very exciting for creators, it truly is not the case. And for a country like India. it only is worse in our Print and Cinema Mediums. Anything with nudity and erotica is conveniently disallowed under the guise of censorship. While western countries are still open to nudity and erotica in print and cinema and most importantly in principle accepting it as normal human instinct.
India, although still takes a criminal view to nudity, sex and erotica outside confines of closed doors. The result of this suppression of expression and exercise, is I feel the typical " tharki" culture that has become a part of us very recently in the past 50 years or so. It was also evidently visible and normalised by Indian Cinema, by means of double meaning songs and dance movements which only fueled this un-natural behaviour.
I feel it is high time the law makers take a scientific and historical stand on all things related to human basic instincts. And we do not need to look too hard. A look at Indian Temples which survived the Mughal, British and Portuguese eradication are explicitly evident of our views on our views depiction of Nudity, Erotica in Public Places.
While there are many reasons that are discussed for having such erotic detailed depictions on places of worship like, education, story telling and leaving your basic instincts behind etc. I feel the most logical reason is to normalise Nudity, Human Form, Erotica and human feelings towards these intincts. Temples are one place where people visit as a family and visit frequently as well. So the idea of having all these on the walls, was to remove the factor of shame and coy from human minds. So they could get on with other things in life.
I truly feel normalising and accepting such depictions once again will help our country address the sex crimes, that are so much a result of lack of respect, education and exposure of the common man.
