Derry Girls S1 Ep6 REACTION!

Joe is never going to stop hating Gerry lmao.

Derry Girls S1 Ep6 REACTION!

Comments

Towards the end she said "James doesn't count" in their accent, not "James is a cunt". You guys added cunt into the video

Karl shields

It's wild that by the end of the season you can't remember 4 girls names. I know you react to a lot but still.

Karl shields

James doesn't count 😂😂 mate that's funny, he's not a cnt

Christy Hennessy

Just to put you in the picture alot of the money for the IRA came from Irish Americans. There is a famous band called Stiff Little Fingers from Northern Ireland which are well worth a listern. ( one of my farvorite bands from 1978 ) I wasd 13 then. But one of their songs was, Each doller a bullet. Aiternative Ulster and Johnny was Suspect device are all worth a listern. In fact all their albums are well worth a listern.

Stephen Wilkinson

It could not be called a war as the UK is in Nato for a start. Ireland is not. The Catholics wanted for Ireland to take over the whole island, kicking out the British.

Stephen Wilkinson

Many thanks for this link. It works a lot better with the Madonna song. Also nice to watch that scene again 😢

Stephen Morris

I like the detail at the end too where Joe puts his hand on Gerry's shoulder

Dom Purdie

fuckin love you 2!👌😂💜

Adam Hale

lol at the 32 minute mark she didn’t say cunt she said count James dosnet count because she’s hates the English just so ya know

Adam

This is the Netflix edit, the original edit is best, Orla dances to Like A Prayer by Madonna on the stage but in the Netflix edit they dub over it because of music rights, the original is better because her moves are in synch with the song and lyrics which is part of the humour too, so I'd recommend you both watch a copy of the original cut just for your own pleasure as it's brilliant.

Mark Jones

I was a student in the 90's and used to do a lot of work with Gay Groups, Terence Higgins etc. I'm heterosexual but had a lot of gay friends and we were all artists so we'd all help each other out with events and stuff, anyway we'd do a rave against AIDS once a year where a group of us would go around a lot of pubs and clubs collecting money, I'd just turn up and be dressed, one year they dressed me in a red leotard with a pink tutu and covered the rest of my body in white make-up and spiked my hair with a big red heart over my eye, every club we'd have to go on the stage and dance, it was a lot of fun and the last club was always a gay club, I was at the trough in the men's toilet having a pee... and peeing in a leotard means pulling it all to once side, and I ended up with about a dozen gay guys stood behind me wolf whistling and telling me how nice my arse was.... great memories! 🤣

Mark Jones

I'm so glad I've at least seen the original scene before, because that was shit.

Joe Thornhill

The only reason you like Ice ice baby is because of the iconic bassline written by John Deacon. From QUEEN! FOR UNDER PRESSURE! And you can get photos from Boots (medicine, deodorant, feminine hygiene, razors, toothpaste, etc) but we still got Snappy Snaps. Went there for my passport photo about 12 years ago.

Joe Thornhill

Why did I think the title was about me? Fucking narcissist.

Joe Thornhill

❤️

janepotsie

Don't worry QB, I still cry at the ending of that, and every DGirls series - brace yourself! And I don't have Mum (mom) head either 😉 and she is right, it was war reporting in that end montage imo xx

janepotsie

I reckon the licence didn't get renewed at some point. I remember it being Like a Prayer when I watched it on Netflix years ago.

R van Kuik

Yeah sure, it's the channel 'After Work Reactions'. He doesn't post that much on YouTube these days and I'm not currently following him on Patreon (nothing personal, just his current reactions don't really interest me and I'm a bit skint!). But he's been doing reactions for ages so has a massive archive of British comedy to watch on his Patreon. It's interesting to see how shows which I thought were a bit too regional do seem to translate (This Country, People Just Do Nothing, and the Royle Family, amongst others!).

AdamMcAdamface

Bloody amazing song!

AdamMcAdamface

I think QB goes for secret puffs of her inhaler when she's in the bathroom. Lights off under a towel

bdazzer85

I do a lot of photography and my local camera shop does prints, not just digital either, they still process film too because there are still a fair few photographers who shoot film, I do myself sometimes, there's a big chain of chemists here which have always done prints and still does, but I think a lot of people who just want holiday/party snaps etc. order prints online these days.

Mark Jones

Would you be able to share the reaction channel? I've always wondered if the humour would translate outside of the UK and Ireland.

Gem

James doesn't count ( not c@nt )

Mark Jephson

I thought that too. Must be for licensing reasons. Worked better in its original format.

Neil Jarvis

I love that song at the end: The Cranberries - Dreams. It’s used a few more times later in the show.

Neil Jarvis

That was a powerful ending. There has been some notable bombings during The Troubles (the Omagh Bombing, in which 29 people were killed after two bombs went off in a busy town, for example). Whilst it wasn’t identified which this was meant to be (it wasn’t the Omagh Bombing as that was in 1998 and we’re not at 1998 in the show yet), it was a great way of showing the juxtaposition between the realities of adulthood and the innocence of childhood. I found the moment when Joe laid a hand on Gerry’s shoulder really moving. It showed that, above all the bravado, he genuinely cared for his son-in-law.

Neil Jarvis

This is a reply I posted to a comment here just in case you dont get chance to read comments on comments lol its worth a listen....Oh you should listen at a song by The Cranberries called Zombie....From Wiki "Zombie is a protest song written by lead singer Dolores O'Riordan. It was inspired by the young victims of a bombing in Warrington, England, during the Troubles in Northern Ireland. The lyrics express anger, frustration, and grief over the senseless loss of life and the impact of the conflict on innocent people. The song was written in memory of two young boys, Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball, who were killed in the IRA bombing in Warrington"

Steven Sjosten

It often means they paid to license Like a Prayer for broadcast on Channel 4 only. It’s possible they shot this scene with that song in mind before getting a deal with Netflix and only then did they discover that particular record label has a separate, extortionate cost for use on streaming platforms.

Mark Fraser

The hand on the shoulder.... What a moment.... Joe actually loves Gerry

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

Da Gerry is played by Tommy Tiernan, one of the funniest comedians in the world. You check him out.

Wilx

Yeah that was the nicest clip in the series and I think it was needed... Oh you should listen at a song by The Cranberries called Zombie. From Wiki "Zombie is a protest song written by lead singer Dolores O'Riordan.

I may have mentioned previously, but my uncles brother was killed while on duty in N. Ireland. There was a lot of harsh times in Ireland back then https://www.paradata.org.uk/people/michael-b-matthews

Peter Andrews

The Cranberries playing at the end was great, I love Dolores’ voice.

Julian T

The song during Orla step aerobics at the end is actually Like A Prayer by Madonna, which works much better for the scene, not sure why they changed it for Netflix

Inter Malager

needed on a monday night thanks u2..

rtkeane

Aww great ending!! :)

Chris Kay

Hey KB you've got a 5 head, so called cuz it's bigger than a forehead.

Johnnyenglish

Ah don't worry QB, I also sobbed a bit at that ending! Can't believe I've never seen this before, it's brilliant. Not sure if you've had many suggestions for the show 'This Country', but that's another show I only discovered through another reaction channel, and has the same mix of brilliant comedy combined with moments that really hit you hard. (plus it has the actress who played the crazy cafe lady in Man Down, in an even crazier role!).

AdamMcAdamface

I was going to say the timestamp wasn’t necessary as Michelle says “James doesn’t count” until QB came out with the word 🤣

Rachel

Hearing Queen Boomer say 'cunt' made me laugh!

Simon Cross

Queen Boomer got it right - teenagers in the 90's here were still living their lives in amongst all the violence and trauma. For the most part you could just ignore it and focus on the things every other teenage girl did - boys and music. Teenage drama usually trumps most things, even if there is a civil war going on around you😂😂

Agent Squirrels

It's 'Pray' by Take That.

Agent Squirrels

Dreams is a love song. It's got nothing to do with what was going on here in the 90's. You might be mixing it up with Zombie.

Agent Squirrels

I'm glad the music was changed. Most of the other songs were from the states, apart from the last song. It's nice to hear a mix, like there was in real life back then. Take That was huge at the time.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Interesting that Joe was considering helping the paramilitary guy last episode, but this episode he was reminded what they were actually up to. Murderous thugs.

Will

To be fair, King Boomer, the amount of copyrighted songs in every episode of this show I'll be very surprised if you manage to get any of it onto YouTube, but good luck trying.

Jon Burkitt

31:54 She didn't call James a "cunt". She said James doesn't count (because he's an English). The only people who used the word in this video were you guys xD

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

I feel you guys missed that bit at the end that showed Joe comforting Gerry, putting his hand on his shoulder. Just showing that while Joe is constantly taking the piss out of Gerry, he's still his family and they'll stick with each other during hardship.

Gem

Ending of season 1 gets me every time….so many memories of what it was like back then. As the same age as the characters were at that time the show reflects so much with what it was like growing up here at the time - normality of childhood interspersed with surreal chaos.

Richard A

I thought I was having a Mandela Effect moment and kept waiting for the Madonna song!

Adam

She said James doesn't count, not that he's a cunt : )

Louis Powis

I've always thought it to be weird how films tend to portay the majority of nerdy characters to have asthma. Some of the most athletically gifted people I've known have Asthma 🤷🏼‍♂️

PoPaDoMZz

One of the best endings for any season I've seen. Joe putting his hand on Gerry's shoulder and showing that disaster and tragedy put everything into perspective and people's true feelings will always show.

Adam

That bit where grandpa puts his hand on Joe’s shoulder at the end always gets me! 🥲

Jase777

I think Michelle actually says “James doesn’t count” rather than the ‘c word’ but you probably need to timestamp anyway since you both repeated it! 😂

Jase777

I have never seen this man before and Erins I cannot get anything past rupert murdock over there lines too funny

Tim Salt (Tim Salt Writes)

sometimes you shouldn't end it when the credits come on and just let it roll for a minute. that song is very poignant and powerful and speaks to the issues of that time and it's jarring to just end it. plus uz were so busy chatting over it you missed the grandad put his hand on the sons arm. another poignant moment.

Ross stewart

It still might be a good call to keep it away from the beady eyes of YouTube though 😂

Will

Fun Fact: The song you see them dancing to at the end is "Shine" by Take That. However, in the original Channel 4 broadcast, they're actually dancing to "Like A Prayer" by Madonna which fits a lot better. Sadly, Netflix had to change the song for rights reasons. Here is the link to the original scene below. And I don't know if you noticed the brief moment of poignance where Joe puts a comforting hand on Gerry's shoulder. Always gets me https://youtu.be/4SN14w6BLf8?si=G4JbdZd7dRrCDa_n

Jake Ratcliff

KB- Michelle didn’t say ‘cunt’, she said “James doesn’t count”🤣it’s the NI accent 🤓. The ending was very poignant and showed the reality of the troubles. I cried too .

Erica

I do photography as a hobby, and film photography and film development places are still very much a thing, though obviously there's a lot less of them nowadays. Black and white film is also pretty easy to develop at home and making prints isn't that difficult either. Colour on the other hand is pretty tricky.

R van Kuik

She said 'count'

Jamie

You need to watch Tommy tiernan... Fuck is my chisel stand up

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

Orla is definitely a fellow ADHD'er 😂
