Nicholas Lyndhurst has been goated.
I cannot recommend 'Good Night Sweetheart' with Nicolas Lyndhurst enough. Brilliant time travel comedy.

And Del & Rodney's mum is currently a main character with 10 years worth of story there. Character is much the same TBH apart from the alcoholism and manslaughter 😉

This Is England the tv series is amongst *the best* drama the UK has ever produced. Very hard hitting at times, also touching, tragic but sometimes very funny. The entire cast is superb but one of the leads, Joe Gilgun (from Brassic) is especially good.

+1 for 'I, Claudius'.
It's the best (historical) drama ever made about Ancient Rome and its players. Brian Blessed as Augustus. John Hurt as Caligula. Derek Jacobi as Claudius. Patrick Stewart as Sejanus. Many more.

I remember watching this for the first time with my mother who had been around London in the 60s. Her only complaint in terms of accuracy was that the streets weren't 'dirty' enough.

A more self serious pr quel to a sitcom. This basically did the same tphing as 'Yoing Sheldon' but a decade earlier.

I'm taking a (educated?) guess here and I don't expect you to confirm or deny it, either way, but the drama series you're thinking of doing or definitely going to do is, I reckon, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with Alec Guinness. If so it's an absolute better of a series. All tension and atmosphere. Intelligent too.

Denzils accent was really thick in this- must have mellowed out over the years.
I kept looking at Nic Lyndhurst and thinking he'd start acting like Rodney and say something dumb at some point haha.
The line "Joani I was 1 digit away from cracking the Bank of England so a key on a bit of string ain't gonna hold me back for long is it?" def had Rodney vibes to it though

Great to see these finally reacted to!! So underrated in my opinion. Lots of easter eggs in them to OFAH as well if you know it well enough...Denzil's idea of getting a van, younger versions of Aunt Renee from The Frog's Legacy, Clayton from the exploding dolls episode, and Albie Littlewood, the "bestest friend in the world" of Del's who gets killed crossing the train tracks to meet Del Boy's girlfriend, and lots more! The Slater walking the plank in the park is a direct reference to the first episode he is in where he nicks them for stealing a microwave. Also his friend Jumbo Mills in this is the guy who comes back from Australia to try and get Del to move out there to be his business partner in his car dealership.

The interesting thing about this time period in comparison to the Only Fools era, is that new Council high rise flats were highly sought after. Britain was still dealing with the effects of WW2, so most normal houses in many areas of Britain were run down and in disrepair, with many still having an "outside" toilet (as referenced in the episode), and different generations of family all having to live under one roof.
Britain was still rationing food until the mid 50's, and there were still remnants of bombed out sites during the early 60's. So anyone able to get a brand new council property was very lucky.
During the Only Fools and Horses period of the 70's/80's, the high rise council flats had become run down and dirty, looked ugly and were surrounded by a large amount of crime. So unlike the 60's they were considered the worst places to live.

KB, there's more Del Boy in the next episode. Just to fill you in Del's mate Jumbo was the chap who emigrated to Australia and later offered Del a partnership. Albie Littlewood, the good-looking lad who likes pills, we discovered was the one who went off with Del's girlfriend June behind Del's back in the episode where he thought June's daughter Debbie was his whilst Rodney was trying to get intimate with her. We never saw Albie later on , he was just mentioned by name.

I thinks it was difficult to find younger versions of Boycie, Trigger and Slater as John Challis, Roger Lloyd-Pack and Jim Broadbent have, let's say, facial looks full of character.

So glad you finally did this, it's brilliant. Nick Lyndhurst is great in it, really seems like a totally different person. Given that you did the movie way back I wonder if you'll react to the series for This is England. That's brilliant too.

If you haven't seen 'em already, American Graffiti (1973), That'll Be The Day (1973) and The Wanderers (1979) are all films that are absolutely stuffed with great music from the 50s and 60s. The Wanderers in particular would be a good candidate for a reaction vid watch too I think.
As for a great British drama to watch? Prime Suspect (1991). Nuff Said.

It was a lot better than I remember, it was from around 2010, perhaps I was too used to seeing James Buckley as Jay because, at the time, I felt it was badly miscast, but watching it now, I think he did a good job. And there were more subtle funny moments in there than I remember.

I don’t know what the drama will be. The Night Manager would be an amazing choice. Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hollander, Olivia Colman.
I’m wondering if it’s going to be Luther. That would be a great watch. Line of Duty is also great.

I feel like you and QB watching 'Broadchurch' would make for some compelling reactions - I'm oversimplifying it as they are quite different shows, but think 'True Detective set In the south coast of England'

ahhh the 'Tube' KB, so the first line (most in the early years were independent train companies, that eventually formed as one) but the first was a line from I believe Farringdon to Paddington/ Baker Street, in the 1860's! This line is now the Metropolitan Line.
The earliest lines and stations they used a 'cut and cover' method where they literally dug huge trenches wide and deep, build the railway and then covered it over, this was method for lots of stations on what are now the Metropolitan, District, Hammersmith & City and Circle lines.
From then on though loads of it was built a long time ago now if you just search on google London Underground maps by years you get a good idea of how big it was and how it grew, but yet lots of it was there even as far back as 1900., with the Northern, Piccadilly and Central lines I believe, so there was even Stations used as shelters from zeppelin raids in World War One, not just the Second World War!
The newest underground lines are the Jubilee and Victoria Line, from the 60's onwards. The Elizabeth line dunno if technically a LUL line but is the newest (cross rail).
Little fact for you also I think its about only 40-45% of the London Underground is actually underground, as so many stations on the outskirts of London, the lines run out all the way in to Balham, Wimbledon, Watford, Essex/ Hertfordshire, etc.
If you want to be bored further KB, or have any questions 🤣 let me know & I'll tell ya about my job that is linked to that world haha, not putting it out on here though!

Wow, fantastic that you're doing this! Very unexpected. Three episodes, yes, sadly unfinished due to the writer John Sullivan's death, but as it's a prequel you can obviously fill in the gaps.
I was never sure about Lyndhurst's casting as Freddie, but Buckley as Del was a good choice. Love the soundtrack on this too.

If you're planning to start watching dramas KB, you might look into Life on Mars. It's about a UK police detective sent back in time from the 2000s to the 70s. I really think you'd enjoy it.

Fantastic choice - Like you said, its only 3 episodes and whilst maybe it isn't quite as good, it's a great accompaniment to OFAH and well worth a watch in its own right. When it comes to the drama that you mentioned I'm predicting / hoping it's 'SAS: Rogue heroes' which depicts the formation and early missions of the sas during ww2 - There's plenty of others you would enjoy too though, so it will be interesting to see your choice!

This is a interesting surprise. And maybe i need to give it another go. Because I never particularly enjoyed it seemed to removed from the original show for me.
I much prefer the green green grass which feels like a authentic spin-off. If certainly not as remotely to the level of only fools.
