YES FINALLY!!!

Ryan The Great

If you play your vinyl on one of those trash suitcase players with the built in speakers, you’re not allowed to make the argument of vinyl sounding better than digital, you’re just lying to yourself

Andy

Saying that 'instant classics' don't exist or that it is a stupid phrase to say, is an annoying take. Of course, we all understand that a literal classic has to be older to be a classic. But calling a great album an instant classic is fun in music discussion, because you are predicting something is going to be regarded a classic in the future, which is by definition a daring, hot take. Which is what makes music discussion fun.

Steven Frolke

Sublime doesn’t get enough love. They are constantly written off as corny SoCal beach rock but they did an amazing job combining so many genres. (Ska, punk, reggae, rap, rock, they killed it all). All three of their albums are classics and Brad Nowell doesn’t get nearly enough love for how talented he was.

Jack Guenther

You secretly left off parquet courts from the decade-end list thinking nobody would notice just so Farrah Abraham’s My Teenage Dream Ended could make the list and cause a ruckus

John Tatara

If Whole lotta red cut 10 tracks it would be 7 or 8/10 LP

If Metallica's last 5 albums were trimmed down to 45 minutes each, they would have a very good discography beyond just their early output

Josh

The Indian and other international indie music scenes are nascent because it does not get enough attention from the internet and also does not engage with internet culture enough to gain popularity or traction

NYC Power Elite part II has some seriously deep bass, can’t believe you don’t like the mix

If you had to listen to one genre for the rest of your life, which genre would it be?

Mac demarco, for better or for worse, is the most influential rock musician and guitarist of the 2010s, and a top 10 most influential artist in general of the 2010s.

will we ever see a return of the tnd podcast but more specifically the worst rappers in the game yearly segment? it was really interesting to see how opinions and predictions changed over the years

MeowmiXX

When describing genres, sometimes I feel like, to an extent, the words “alternative”, “progressive” or “post-“ could be interchangeable. Is there a clear difference between them or maybe other prefixes like this?

Stefan Lal

Wendy Carlos is the most under appreciated music visionary in music history and it upsets me not that many people know who she is.

Zach Hill forming a new band (Undo K From Hot) probably means Death Grips is over or at least on a break.

Torstein Gresaker

What have you learned in 2021 so far?Whether that be a new skill at something or just something else in that lane.

Coldplay Is a pretty solid, and generaly good band, even though there last hand full of records have been meh at best, there have always been 1 or 2 hidden jems in each of those albums that prove the band shouldn’t be dismissed as TRAAAASH

Zachary Villafana

New Levels New Devils is a great album, but it's very dumb that there's an explicit sticker on the cover. It is very funny though.

Caden Meyer

Trout mask replica will be forgotten by music listeners in twenty years despite being a great album not being on streaming services damages an artist and without it it will be forgotten. Also rolling stone had it in their top 100 albums last list but this time it wasn’t even on the list

Tyler the reviewer

Bowling For Soup is the greatest pop punk band of all time and you cannot change my mind.

John Tatara

Despite its bad reputation and inane lyrics, the beat to “Stupid Hoe” by Nicki Minaj absolutely slaps. It almost sounds like an early SOPHIE record and did not pander at all to the cheap trends at the time.

Franco del Rosario

Many hip-hop fans place too much value on lyrical complexity, while I would never deny that these artists are great lyricists in fact they are some of the most skilled and intelligent writers in HH but a lot of times, less is more and a simple but clever or poetic bar or set of bars can be much more profound and engaging than an ultra complicated and almost saturated level of wordplay and metaphors

buckfastbjork

Weezer has another blue album in them

Adam mezzarone

What is your opinion about Future Funk? Do you think it has potential? Or is it dying out? I think that the genre has the potential to hit big if there is not a plethora of lazy production and blatant rip-offs.

Bryan Casas

Sound mixing is just as an essential skill in music making as any of the "softer" ones. Having the best producers, songwriters, instrumentalists, and vocalist is all but futile if what comes out of the speaker is trash.

Did it hurt to film the Blarf Cease and Desist review? You drank so much Canada Dry I was genuinely concerned for your health

Kyle Cahill

Babymetal - Metal Galaxy was a great album that deserved a review. It showed the band's versatility with its songs spanning multiple different styles of music from around the world while still having the fun and catchy sound that the band is known for.

Clarence

It's the coolest thing to see kids shows bring in artists like Sesame Street and Ice Cube and Yo Gabba Gabba with Weezer and their music segments, that should be a thing with more shows. I'd love to see Drake or Eminem on some show like Paw Patrol lmaooo

Shady Fazbear

Americans need to give old British rock another chance. I’m talking 10cc, XTC, Badfinger, Be Bop Deluxe. All fantastic bands that have a name with cultural significance in the UK, but not as much across the pond.

Neal Garbenis

Anthony, as shocked as I was to see you give Jeff Rosenstock's SKA DREAM a light 9, it was refreshing to see you praise a record purely based on nostalgia and an appreciation for the genre, as opposed to breaking it apart or casting it off because of cultural relevance. I know NO DREAM had to be great in order for you to like this one so much, but it was still nice to hear you recognize the merits of Rosenstock's musicianship and to see you passionately enjoy music that probably would have been labeled as "tongue and cheek". It was a true ska fanboy moment and I am here for it!

Josh Brown

The current British post-punk scene is by far the most important in all of rock right now.

Chris Hickson

Greta van Fleet aren't that bad, bacuse they sound like Led Zeppelin. They could sound like a much worse band, like Greta Van Fleet for example... Shitty jokes aside, how derivative is too much derivative? How much can you sound like other bands while still bringing something new to the table, expecially now that there is so much music in the world that it is hard to even be 10% original?

Roland Webster

He already has some videos about separating the art from the artist and music made by problematic artists

Stefan Lal

Mac demarco, for better or for worse, is the most influential rock musician and guitarist of the 2010s, and a top 10 most influential artist in general of the 2010s.

sebastian garcia

blackout by britney spears should be held up as a proto-hyperpop classic, and (almost) on the same tier should be uffie - sex dreams and denim jeans

jeff

CHVRCHES could go full hyperpop and make the greatest hyperpop song ever and you'd still put it in Worst Tracks

Triple 9

Rush ended its career in the best way any “legacy” band could - a final album that the fanbase loved, a final tour covering the entirety of a rich career, and no big announcements or trickery to capitalize on what they knew was their last round. Just playing music they loved to play and the fans loved to hear.

Daniel DeGeorges

Who Let The Dogs Out would’ve been a great DMX song

Drake Parker

Macklemore has/had potential to actually create a 8+ album but the extreme amounts of hate that came from his most infamous moments may cause him to never reach that potential.

Nick Denhalter

EDM gets too much hate nowadays for it's mainstream appeal and marketability. Some excellent producers such as Space Laces and Moore Kismet are overshadowed by artists like Marshmello and The Chainsmokers who help generalise modern EDM as 'trash' and 'generic.'

Trait

Graves Era misfits is underrated and just as good as the Danzig era

branm25

I think OK Computer earned its reputation. Thematically it’s chillingly predictive and relevant to this day, more so than almost any other album. The production compliments the theme perfectly, and it’s aged beautifully.

James Carlisle

Sody is just Irish lorde and with moving places are you still in Connecticut?

Jackson Moeller

Nicki Minaj doesn't need to comeback

I’m New Here by Gil Scott-Heron(not the remix though that is great) is an incredibly underrated album. I didn’t see it on any end of decade lists. It has beautiful spoken word pieces that challenge common perceptions of what a good home is. It’s extremely emotional and a masterpiece. A perfect good bye from Gil Scott-Heron.

Bennett Gottesman

Publicly Retiring is so Square. When LCD Soundsystem came out with their big goodbye tour, it felt so grand & final. But then they made a comeback some 5 years later and it felt like a pisstake. Don't be so insistent on your departure only to sheepishly come back with new material. Everything you make after your big goodbye will be considered an afterthought or an epilogue, no matter how good it is.

GN alkhouri

This is a pretty damn good question given a lot of clout has been made for Daughters as a band as well as some quality memes.

Jonathan Beltran

I find it really difficult to differentiate between electronic music genres: EDM, IDM, techno, house, drum n bass, it all sounds like a pretty similar sonic palette to me. This isn't a diss on electronic music as I enjoy quite a bit of what I've heard, I just feel like I haven't listened to enough of it to point out the differences. Can you explain what the differences are or give some good reference albums?

THAT MARS VOLTA BOX SET THO

Trevor Young

Mark from Spectrum Pulse deserves a nod for one of the busiest music nerds. The man recommends albums not typically talked about in the music critic sphere, gives country albums its much needed recognition, and even analyzes and forecasts the Billboard 100. I’d say he deserves his flowers.

Jonathan Beltran

The order of songs on a tracklist can make or break an album.

Christian Corbett

More people should use 3-point rating scales

Nicolas Babick

You said in your 6ix9ine review that he is a singles artist that doesn’t work in an album format. Are there any artists that are the opposite to that? Are there artists who don’t drop many impressive singles but still release a fantastic and complete album?

Emily

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is at their best when they play more low key chill songs as opposed to fast paced bangers. Love all their stuff tho.

TraJay

Horns. They make every song better but no one uses them. Back in the 90s the mighty mighty bosstones would have been a bunch of NOBODYS, but in came the horns and then BLAMO! you got yourself a show. If an artist is losing their edge they just need to throw a couple of horns in there. If they are feeling cocky they could get a string quartet involved , put together a glam shot and you got yourself a pretty good meal.

Seinfeld

Do you think it is harder for someone to appreciate or “get” music that came out before they were born because of the lack of context they have? For instance, I like OK Computer but don’t at all understand its reputation as one of the greatest albums ever. Is this because I can’t understand what music was like before and after it came out? I’ve had similar feelings about old Bowie and Beatles records

Lucy Keeley

i don’t really get why you loved the seeyouspacecowboy compilation but were totally turned off by the LP. Maybe we just look for different things in heavy music but I don’t understand the huge gap in quality between the two you seemed to argue for

Wilson Garrett

How do you feel about the allegations that have come out against Mark Kozelek? Will you still be listening to his music? Is Benji still one of your top albums of last decade?

tryhard

DJ Khaled's appearance in the bad Boys for life movie is more entertaining than any appearance hes ever had in any of his songs

Portisheads Dummy and Blowout Comb have the same spy theme vibe.

Ryan The Great

How do you decide what gets a track review and what simply gets a shout out in the Weekly Track Roundup?

Drake Parker

what hiphop shows would you wanna go to once concerts are back up?

oscos

If the first few tracks on an album were shit, would you still listen to the record all the way through? (If you weren’t reviewing it of course)

Stefan Lal

Mudvayne's L.D. 50 does not get the credit it deserves for being such an amazing nu-metal album at the time (especailly from a basshead's perspective). Sure, everybody knows 'Dig' but the rest of the album's tracklist sound just as good if not better than it and they just end up getting lumped together with all the other 00's nu-metal garbage or worse that they just get called a slipknot ripoff.

Froggoking

Mort Garson's Plantasia is the absolute best album to listen during a quiet night drive and nothing else even compares

Filip Kaźmierczak

A Thousand Suns is by far the best Linkin Park album. It doesnt have the best singles but the flow of the record makes it an enjoyable and smooth listen from front to back everytime. Their blend of influences and sounds reaches, to me, the best balance amongst all their projects, and it is more than decent lyricaly and thematicaly. But maybe it's just because it's their only real concept album and I'm biased idk.

Lilian.F

Great albums existed before the 1950s

Please for the love of God talk about Nick Drake. I literally paid to here u talk abt him. He's my fav artist of all time. I've wanted to hear your opinion on him for years now. Whats ya fav album of his? What do u like abt him? Love ya melon 😘.

Donuts is magnificent from a technical standpoint, but is average as an actual piece of music

Vipul Konnur

Tempeh is bomb, but it sounds like you might not be preparing tofu in the best way possible. Think of it as a sponge to soak up whatever flavors you want, not a food eaten purely as is out of the package. This means draining and pressing the water out of the tofu then marinating it in something tasty for several hours or overnight if possible. Freeze the tofu in it’s packaging then thaw for extra firm tofu like you’d get at a restaurant. My go to Sunday brunch is tofu egg patties with waffles and greens: mix water, liquid smoke, maple syrup, nutritional yeast, and kala namak black salt and marinate overnight. Cut into two or three patties and fry for 5 minutes each side. It’s seriously the best egg substitute I’ve ever made at home. Buy firm tofu and freeze for patties or cubes, and silken for a mushy scramble texture. Happy cooking 🍽

Memes and Snapchat filters would make your interviews more fun. You can still try to keep things PC while mastering your OBS hot key command game. Zoom + OBS Webcam Plugin+ Dank Memes = FUN or Cringe... My family mostly cringes when I use the on zoom happy hours. And asks me to go back and "make it NoRmAl. " 🙄😩😉👍

maxM@x

While TPAB has certainly proved that it will go down as a classic, it won't have a timeless sound. I'm not saying it should deduct from how well the album was received or anything, I just don't think it'l age particularly well compared to other projects from this decade.

Caco

The Jesus Is King we ultimately got, is still a better project then Yahndi if the leaks are anything to go by.

Isaac Myers

Cultural appropriation is a net good for music. Yes, we have to deal with some cringy rappers every few years, but if we did not allow people to explore other cultures and perform music in them, we would lose hundreds of essential artists and albums. Music history would be damaged for the worse if we did not allow cultural exploration to at least some degree. For every Kenny G. there's a Jaco P.

Herbieguy

When reviewing an artist you don’t know much about, do you prefer to go blind and see how the music speaks to you, or do you research them and their background first? How does understanding where the artist is “coming from” factor into your review process?

Pablo Perez Martin

I am extremely torn between loving Slumber Party by Ashnikko and Doja Cat for being an unabashedy sexually explicit song about being a woman who loves other women and HATING it because it includes the lyric "kawaii hentai boobies"

Eldena Doubleca5t

Despite having been mostly lost to the annuls of early noughties radio hours. Dido, while hardly a pioneer of the genre, had a massive impact on trip-hop, popularised it in a way nobody else did and put out two of the sweetest, catchiest and most radio friendly records in the genre. Genuinely critically underrated.

Thomas Davidge

Chocolate Rain by Tayzonday was unironically an important milestone for YouTube based music, and is more influential then people give it credit for. Also it still slaps almost 14 years later.

Isaac Myers

I know your main thing is reviewing and covering new music, but I think a cool segment would be to give some recommendations on older stuff on the regular. Tier lists and starter packs are too few and far between.

Stefan Lal

You could be doing a lot more to promote bald visibility. You talk a lot about dental hygiene and health, not to mention other incredibly important social justice issues, but you think it's ok simply to be bald without vocally promoting visibility for the follicly challenged? You need to do better.

Caleb John Cushing

Drop the skincare routine

While mostly remembered for a handful of grating radio hits and two truly awful musicals, ABBA were one of the most consistent pop groups of the 70s and 80s; spearheading the most popular sounds of the era, crafting a remarkably consistent discography and even venturing into vaguely experimental territory on a few deep cuts from their early and mid catalogue and most of their last record ‘the Visitors’.

Thomas Davidge

Vegan food is starting to look way better and more diverse nowadays than it did a few years ago. I'm not vegan, but the options I see get more and more enticing.

Shady Fazbear

Teflon Don by Rick Ross aged better as a hip hop album than The Marshall Mathers LP.

Ibrahim Daily

The Fray’s How to Save a Life is an under appreciated album in my opinion. I know some people [including myself] usually just write off the title track because it feels corny as fuck, but the rest is just nostalgia filled, meaningful songs that resonate with me so much [eg tracks like Vienna or Hundred] with the exception of She Is & Heaven Forbid, because those tracks were boring as hell. Other than that, it sounds great to this day

DeadSeraphin

Do you think you would be as popular as you are if it weren’t for your rating system? You obviously didn’t invent the rating system and you would still be one of the biggest critics on the internet but it seems to me recently that that’s all people focus on, especially amongst “music nerd” communities where that’s become a center of focus, arguing over which album is a 10 and which isn’t instead of actual discussion. Do you think people would stick around if you didn’t have a number to slap onto the end of a video that summarizes your feelings?

Pvzuzu

Bound 2 is one of the most overrated Kanye songs

SAMIR

Now Only is as good, if not better than A Crow Looked At Me. The long, winding narratives allow for deeper and more thorough storytelling, this, along with the more diverse instrumentation, tighter tracklist and additional time to reflect on the events that inspired the two records leads to a more focused and equally emotional album.

Thomas Davidge

The Who is better than the Beatles. While the Beatles wrote more hits, The Who’s music is more compositionally complex, they basically created the concept album with Tommy and Kieth Moon was a far better drummer than Ringo ever was

Rubber Soul < Sgt Pepper < White Album < Revolver < Abbey Road

James Carlisle

What are your thoughts on reviewing different versions of albums? I think you should review the vinyl/ cd edition of Car Seat Headrest's MADLO. The differences in the tracks are notable, and I would recommend it especially since you didn't like the streaming version. They get rid of the weirdo vocal deliveries and choppy remixes :)

caleb terr

i know you're not the biggest animal collective fan, especially uninterested in the solo output, but what's your opinion on panda bear's person pitch, and the band's "debut", spirit they're gone, spirit they've vanished? i've never heard you talk about either, and yet they are some of the original, ambitious, flamboyant, and masterfully arranged albums ive ever heard. they deserve all the praise in the world and then some!

superdude75561

Y'all will talk mad shit on vegan food without having ever tried it.

The last year has increased my ambient music listening a lot. Have you been listening to any good ambient lately and if so what?

Ordinary Sausage sounds an awful lot like Cal Chuchesta, and also has a mustache. Is there something you’re not telling us??

Paul Prete

When concerts come back, we'll probably see tours with 5+ opening acts because everyone will want to go on tour and there's only so many days in 2022 and only so many venues (especially with some smaller ones closing over the past year).

I know you’ve said in the past that you don’t like to review film scores, but I was wondering if there are any that stand out to you, or that you’re able to listen to outside of the context of the film.

BlueZones

Tempeh is nutritionally and flavor-wise superior to tofu. Tempeh has more protein and vitamins and has the added benefit of not tasting like what I imagine styrofoam would taste like

Fear of Music and Speaking in Tounges are both more enjoyable than Remain In Light. I wholeheartedly agree that Remain in Light is better instrumentally, but the back half of the record does little to nothing for me (apart from Listening Wind which is excellent).
