lol where's the "hot" part of this take?

No

Wingus McDingus

People are overacting to the latest news regarding Daft Punk calling it a day. Their music was incredibly samey, and only appeals to nostalgic boomers. P.S Air did it better

Wingus McDingus

Kanye West bred a generation of fuckboy capitalists

Dan Stacy

Who do you think will have the most successful solo career post-Brockhampton?? Besides Kevin, I could see Matt really taking off. I’m also curious to see what Joba does.

Do you like Chiodos?

Cory P

Painfully on point

HMN

Is Cal Chuchesta also a vegan?

Elon Musk absolutely sucks (yes hot take because not enough people know about what the guy actually does and the majority still thinks he is a revolutionary Inventor)

Eyedea is the best freestyle/battle rapper of all time. Off the dome at Scribble Jam, there was never anyone better. He destroyed guys that destroyed Eminem in rap battles. Rhymesayers and Atmosphere made some crazy stuff.

Jack Guenther

Rage Against The Machine were not politically groundbreaking

The Wants: The Motor is the most underrated rock single of 2020

Kyle Taylor

what’s secret about it 🙃

The Needle Drop

I only do the final cuts & publishing of TND vids, not complete edits like on the fantano channel. So most of the edits you see in reviews are already in place by the time they reach me. If I do make an edit it's usually just a cut or a glitchy cover-up. But when it comes to that, yeah it's memory & my own research cause I'm not familiar w/ most of the albums Anthony reviews. Some error catches feel kinda lucky. -Austen (it's not really common knowledge but should clarify I prefer avoiding pronouns)

The Needle Drop

If "Things that Rhyme With Orange" by I Set My Friends On Fire was the only song that existed I think we should be completely fine with that.

Why do you like fast rapping from Daveed Diggs but not from Em or Tech N9ne

Kyle Cahill

Trench by tĂžp is absolutely the greatest alternative pop album of the 2010s, it's not even debatable. it will significantly influence a new wave of alt pop this decade, a strong nine at the very least.

Tin Machine

Matt Dorrell

Can we give some appreciation to Alice Cooper? Love it to Death to Brutal Planet is a surprisingly solid/long run of albums. It hits a few low points around his blackout/alcoholic years, but has a strong comeback. Even now, he knows how to keep his fans satisfied and is one of the best live acts still around from that era.

Maximum Sorrell

What are some of your comic influences? I always think you’re doing a great job incorporating a bit of humor into what you do, and that Cal and thatsisnottheplan are/were both really silly and funny in their own somewhat unique way.

Cupcake

I firmly believe all music and art have a place and should be allowed to exist in the space it has chosen, however allow me to contradict myself, Taylor Swift’s folklore being a fundamentally pop album with a few acoustic guitars should not be considered a folk album. And should not be placed along side albums like Carrie and Lowell, Bon Iver, or Helplessness Blues. It should be separate from those and others like them in terms of award categories, and records it breaks as a folk album. Even in the public perception, if lil Betty hears Cardigan on the radio and wants to delve deeper into the genre, she’ll be in for a rude awakening when the songs she listens to sound nothing like that, and will criticize all folk as bad because it isn’t Taylor swift.

Eduardo

Daniel Lopatin (OPN, Chuck Person) established Vaporwave as the most successful DIY music genre for his work with The Weeknd producing the Super Bowl show. If OPN was Michael Jordan, George Clanton would be Scotty Pippin for using their careers to take the genre to places unthought of just 10 years ago.

Any thoughts of redux reviewing Stoney? Watched that review again today after listening to the album and it’s probably aged the worst of any of your reviews. I don’t see how enjoying bb&b so much, this album can’t have grown on you a little bit, and the one hit wonder criticism of course

Almonds are the best nut.

Cody Wertz

The Music you listen to sounds significantly worse if you don't agree with the person's political views

Benjamin Lisboa

Chris Cunningham needs to direct more music videos!

I could see myself enjoying radio friendly pop music more if the songwriting and performances were better. I know the soft and pillowy production of a lot of pop these days is a turn off to some but I find it a genuinely likeable sound and wish it was used more effectively.

Would you ever consider making an album teir list for an artist with a larger discography such as David Bowie? It's a lot more ambitious but I think it would be really satisfying to see a rapid-fire ranking of multiple albums.

Maximum Sorrell

As much as I love the White Album, the tracklist is a complete mess

Bring Me the Horizon is the only band that should be looked at as the current torch carrier in rock/metal. They’ve proven to be ahead of their peers and can experiment, elevate and collaborate with the right artist in and outside of the genre better than anyone else. They also a diverse and young fanbase, with is something rare with a lot of popular mainstream rock/metal bands from this past decade

Cason Handy

America the Beautiful is far better than The Star Spangled Banner and should be the national anthem

Drake Parker

I hope it’s not true but I think that death grips adding old songs like gmail and the restraining order to Spotify means they’re finished and they’re and doing this as a final kind act for the fans.

Bennett Gottesman

Tonetta should play the Super Bowl half time show

Sigur Ros needs to go back to making post rock

tryhard

Pleasure by Feist doesn’t get enough credit for sounding like nothing else. It’s like Pleasure by Feist is its own genre and the only album in it is Pleasure by Feist.

“Boston” by Boston is the prime example of a band having only one good album. That album slaps

Paul Prete

There is no reason to call something overrated. Not liking something as much as other people is cool but some people need to go further and insinuate other people actually enjoy it TOO MUCH. It's just veiled snobbery

beammeupjosi

I agree both really good songs btw

Jackson Moeller

The best comment/question of the day on Ray William Johnson’s show came from none other than Rivers Cuomo

Mandarins are leagues better than any other citrus fruit

Drake Parker

Lol, while I don’t disagree, he was pretty good in American Psycho and Requiem for a Dream

You should be at the super bowl halftime show where you provide on air feedback of The Weeknd’s performance. This would be sexy

Honeydew is the Jared Leto of fruit: it's the worst part of everything it's in. 🐮

Sebastian

The inner art of a CD case is just as important as the front cover

lowkeymatt

U2 is overlooked in the music community, their 80s and 90s run is nearly unmatched. War, joshua tree and Achtung baby are 9+

Childish Gambino's Feels Like Summer and Gorillaz On Melancholy Hill are the same song but for different environments.

Shady Fazbear

Lyrically, Leonard Cohen is on par with Dylan and should be celebrated as such.

Sunny Day Real estate second Album LP2 is there best record

Ah fuck Janet is older than that, I don’t know shit about music but Madlib point stands

Bryan D Courtney

We talk about artists from the 60s-90s having huge influence but who are some artists from the 2000s whose influence is palpable in today’s music? Janet Jackson and Madlib come to mind

Bryan D Courtney

Have you seen the box set for The Killer’s Hot Fuss where it’s all 7”? 11 discs.

Brett Brinkman

I would like to think that whatever work SOPHIE left behind that it would be given to A.G. Cook or even just dumped for DIY or whatever. Maybe SOPHIE wasn’t into sharing unfinished work but I think it would be on brand.

Brett Brinkman

TBF The Handshake is my fav MGMT song.

Brett Brinkman

Lana del Rey is just Lorde for straight people

Chairlift’s third album, Moth, was a massive departure from their progressing electronic sound that I felt like it was hardly a Chairlift album. Although executed well, I still feel robbed of an album that built upon the sounds of their first two albums which I consider both in my top 20 of all time.

Brett Brinkman

Tuung Presents...Dead Club is one of the best albums of 2020.

Realizing that this episode of argue won’t come out until well after the game itself so hopefully this take won’t age like milk 😂

Cody Wertz

The Weeknd is the best choice for a Super Bowl halftime headliner since Prince and it’s not particularly close.

The name of the band is Talking Heads

Who would play you in the Oscar winning biopic of your life?

Jacob Dickens

Earth2 needs more credit beyond innovating a genre. Each song is a hypnotic masterpiece. It is the most psychoactive album that I can think of. Tune into any of the tracks to start floating, no drugs are required.

Marc Rug

When rappers drop bars about the skepticism of vaccines, we know it's harmful, but we shouldn't immediately write off the song as bad because of it. Oftentimes, the fearfulness of the government and society from past experiences (i.e. the Tuskegee experiment) add a level of realism and horror that even proven modern scientific study can't dissuade the distrust of current practices, and can add a deeper emotionality through subtextual criticism and questioning.

Gray Lefkowitz

I agree

Jackson Moeller

This take is so hot I can’t believe I agree

Morgan

In all seriousness, how do you personally react to an Ariel Pink or Manson-type situation? I’m not gonna go out there and destroy all my records or merch like some do, but do you remove them from your downloads and ultimately try to avoid giving them attention or money? Where do you draw the line between supporting controversy, clout, or abuse? As someone who struggles to separate the art from the artist I find moments like these both heartbreaking and confusing.

Andrew Shaktah

Eiffel 65 walked so Crazy Frog could run

Andrew Shaktah

cringe, the album is good, just more like an 8

GraydonS99

There is nothing wrong with the lyric changes on the Black Country New Road album, singers are not entitled to sing about their sexual assault and the people complaining should re-think their viewpoint.

GraydonS99

Matty Healy/George Daniel are the Lennon/McCartney of this generation

I know you're a New Order fanatic but Tears For Fears absolutely deserve to be in the discussion of best synthpop band of all time. 3 absolute CLASSICS (The Hurting, Songs From The Big Chair, Seeds of Love), MASSIVE radio hits and some of the best, biggest and catchiest pop songs ever written (Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Shout, Mad World, Head Over Heels, Sowing The Seeds of Love, Woman In Chains) and albums PACKED with amazing deep cuts (Watch Me Bleed, Suffer the Children, The Working Hour, Mother's Talk, On The Corner of the Third World) and they're lyrics are exceptional, especially the more political lyrics on Seeds of Love. Also, Songs From The Big Chair is a 10

They're below average groove/nu metal at best. There's plenty more interesting and forward thinking bands in metal today.

RosalĂa isn't doing anything that El Fary didn't do 40 years before her

Pablo Perez Martin

More should be done to stop mixing different artists with the same name on music streaming services!!! Sick of being notified of some shit rap artist instead of the actual band of Devo!

Sufjan Steven’s Age of Adz was ahead of it’s time, and placed criminally low on any Sufjan ‘best of’ list, listening now a decade later, all the songs sound fresh and almost even PC inspired. Sure the lyrics are a little too “sufjan-y” for their own good, but the sounds used are inventive and versatile. Versatile enough to be sampled by artists like Mac Miller, Logic, and Kendrick Lamar. Last thought, Sufjan could do ‘Gone’ but Charli XCX could never do ‘Vesuvius’ or ‘Impossible Soul’.

Eduardo

You can only listen to new music starting now, OR you can only listen to already released music starting now. Which option do you choose?

The 2011 version of Twin Fantasy is admirable at best but too lo-fi to the point where it’s almost unlistenable

Raditude is while altogether is an inconsistent album deserves a bit more respect in the Weezer catalog. I think the hate comes from how stupid the album cover is. Songs like put me back together, and trippin down the freeway are solid pop songs especially if you are willing to embrace the inherent goofiness of the album

OK Human is a terrible name for a great album

Paramore’s self-titled album is an insanely underrated record especially considering the rest of their catalogue. It showed a big shift in not just sound, but of maturity in the group. I think it was mainly so overlooked because nobody really expected anything profound from Paramore, but there were some really interesting song ideas, and very personal songs about navigating life going into adulthood. After Laughter held a lot of these themes, but I felt like there were a lot more risks taken on the self titled than AL. It’s a good one.

Fiona Apple's "Fetch the Bolt Cutters" is the most overrated album of 2020. After Pitchfork gave it a 10/10 score, everyone else followed along with a faux intellectual narrative about how it was some kind of groundbreaking experimental release. In reality, very little on that album has not been done before, and on top of that the songwriting is nothing exceptional. Fetch the Bolt Cutters is quirky and "random" music for boomers who deep down want something as fresh as Dorian Electra or 100 gecs, but don't understand those artists enough to actually enjoy them.

Renchan

The number of tracks on an album doesn’t make an album too long/short if the runtime is reasonable. Example, a 100 track album that’s 45 minutes in runtime is not a long album, but a 5 track album that’s 90 minutes can be seen as a long album. Runtime is far more important

Drake Parker

Which scenario would you think is more likely to happen first; Kendrick gets a 0, or Corey Feldman gets a 10?

Drake Parker

Noise music can create some of the most unique and intense musical experiences. It should be respected more as a genre.

Jenk Onay

While he is not awful, Neil Young is very overrated in the singer/songwriter genre. His whiny vocal performance is occasionally repulsive and his lyrics don’t have quite the same emotional depth as someone such as Nick Drake or Bob Dylan.

Squanto

Hot take: Anthony is secretly in love with Metallica and Lou Reed’s Lulu. He jumps at any opportunity to discuss the album because of his closeted obsession with it, and he believes any time for it in the spotlight might cause TND viewers to give it a listen and love it as much as he does. This is clearly seen through the fact that he has brought it up in Let’s Argue segments at least 3 or 4 times, usually praising it for its experimental ideas and talking about how it is overhated. If I’m not mistaken, he also owns a vinyl copy of it and probably lies that he owns it as a meme. He only rated it as a 6/10 to avoid widespread ridicule from the online music community, as a 10/10 rating would have resulted in a loss of subscribers and credibility.

John Tatara

People overlook MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular and only bring it up when discussing the big 3 singles from it, but it deserves much more praise as an all-around amazing psych pop album and one of the best albums of the 2010s. Incredible deep cuts like weekend wars, the youth, and of moons birds & monsters need more attention!

John Tatara

Considering both the better and the worse of Foo Fighters discography, Dave Grohl's singing and voice is amazing and it stands a lot in the 21's century rock landscape

Dub Techno is one of the best subgenres of electronic music

Lil Durk is next up. along with roddy ricch and lil baby

No hot take. You should just talk about Fatima Al Qadiri

The strokes aren't given enough credit for their impact on indie rock of the 2000s, their sound giving way to many bands from the era that were deeply influenced by them/wouldn't be the same without them (the killers, arctic monkeys, etc) also, is this it is due for a classic review by you!

Blackout by Britney Spears is one of the most underrated pop albums of all time.

It's a shame that more bands don't take influence from the Blood Brothers. Their music was more inventive and holds up much better than many of their contemporaries in the 00's post-hardcore scene

not a question but SOPHIE's death is a tragedy for both the music community and the lgbtq community. a moment of silence please.

Who's best equipped to carry on SOPHIE's torch? RIP

cLOUDDEAD is the single most underappreciated hip hop group of the 2000s. They were ahead of the curve in abstract and experimental hip hop, and most of what they did has never been replicated. The hypnotic, ambient inspired instrumentals, the bizarre vocal inflections, that weird thing they did sometimes where two of them would rap at the same time-- it was so eccentric and unique that you really have to respect the boldness of their sound if nothing else. No one else has ever made music that sounds like that, before or since.

Caden Meyer

Would you, in retrospect, give Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides higher than an 8? I know it's a tough q to answer in the wake of tragedy, but I ask specifically due to the album's influence over the last years (and continuing influence). RIP SOPHIE.

sandragl

I find it weird that some people view that any popular record that you give lower than an 8 is seen as a negative score. Like 7 is still pretty good right?

Anthony Rhoades

The only way that the music industry will disintegrate the global music category is for people with a platform, such as yourself, to give spotlight to musicians around the world to introduce the true talent and variety that is present to a mainstream American audience

Kale is an overhated vegetable! It has a lot of important nutrients like vitamins A, C, K, calcium and iron. I know it doesn't taste the best, but when you mix it in a salad or smoothie with other vegetables or fruits, you can hardly notice it.

Matthew Wisniewski

CODE ORANGE, IS FOREVER 🍊🍊🍊

My hot take on this would be using the next year to catch up on music and other media (like movies and TV shows) that I wouldn't have had time to watch and review otherwise. And then occasionally giving an ear to the newest music to keep in touch the modern music culture.

Calling something overrated isn’t valid criticism because it only operates as a critique of the audience and doesn’t offer any insight into the art.

If you're future-self approached you from 1 year in the future and told you to skip reviewing new music for the next year because it was all terrible, would you take the break or pursue out of spite or curiousity?

Dr dre isn't releasing detox not because of his obsession with perfectionism but unlike eminem the man knows that hip hop has evolved beyond him and rather than releasing dated stuff he's protecting his legacy.

moment of silence please

PLEASE I NEED THIS

I have wanted the Pink Floyd Worst-to-Best for 6 years now and I have no faith that he'll ever do it

Not a HOT TAKE (which you usually do here) but more of a question: when ranking the albums that you've given a 10 out of 10 rating, do you frequent one more than the rest when re-listening to them? If so, how would you rank your 10s based on strictly your personal enjoyment?

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a top 5 all time anime

Tyler Craig

Tonya is a top 5 Brockhampton Song

10 years on, Public Strain by Women has been proven to be a standout Post-Punk release with nothing really matching or improving on it's sound since it's release (the only exceptions being the other projects by the members: Cindy Lee and Preoccupations). In my own opinion, it has only gotten better over time and is one of the best, if not the best, post punk release of the 2010s. A really stunning album.

Marilyn Manson should have been cancelled years ago. His abusive BS has been public for a while. I realize someone like Evan Rachel Wood had to start the process, but people have let him get away with shit for too long.

Trevor Young

Bands with old people are rarely ever in the top ten because what’s popular music is decided by the youth and the youth just wants to listen to other young people.

The Argument is Fugazi’s best record.

Would you ever consider doing a "In Memoriam" type video to include with List Week where you speak about some of the artists who had passed away that year? So many talented people both you and the fans love dearly leave us each year and I would love to hear you speak on them more in-depth, such as John Prine, David Berman or even Stepa J. Groggs. Also your vast knowledge about their influence and legacy would make the "eulogies" more compelling and sincere. (RIP to MF Doom and Sophie so far this year..)

Josh Brown

You really need to do more worst-to-best lists. There’s so many bands and artists to touch on (Pink Floyd, the Beatles, David Bowie, ATCQ, Jay-Z, etc).

James Carlisle

If Pop Punk, emo & hardcore had a child, it would be Trophy Eyes

it;s better that Les Rallizes Dénudés didnt have proper studio album releases, I think it adds to the band's mystery and intrigue, which is a significant part of their appeal

Are there any good albums you regret not giving a higher review?

It's only a matter of time before hyperpop starts incorporating sea shanties

Filip KaĆșmierczak

Even though Simple Minds was commercially very successful in the '80s, their music is underrated nowadays and should be mentioned more because their music is very influential

Have there been any 9s you've consider to be a 10 at this point like david bowies blackstar

Ryan The Great

Doesn’t it piss you off when a short record, like FlyLo’s You’re Dead!, is pressed on 2 discs?

Stefan Lal

City Pop is going to be rejuvenated soon and will be the next big wave of influence on music for years to come. E.g. The Tatsuro Yamashita sample at the end of GONE, GONE / THANK YOU.

Lemmy is still one of the GOATS tho.

membertatooine

Avatar is one of the best bands in metal right now and it’s criminal they aren’t talked about more. Every member of the band has ridiculous chops, but unlike a lot of other modern metal bands, they have the creativity and attention to detail to really take advantage of that skill. It’s obvious from interviews how meticulous they are with every element of their sound, but they also know how to have fun with their art. Every album has a fresh but consistent vibe, and the fans/concerts are great too. What’s not to love?

Back when you were talking about Black Parade a lot, you mentioned MCR was better than FOB because FOB didn't have 'a classic', which I feel is selling the band short. Cork Tree and Folie a deux are both incredible albums in their respective genre, and the band showcases some really solid songrwriting and musical ability. Patrick Stump in his heyday was one of the better and more versatile singers around. It's fine to prefer MCR, and even say Black Parade is better than anything FOB has put out, but i feel that saying FOB doesn't have a pop-punk classic is disingenuous.

Caleb John Cushing

Aside from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry was the biggest pop name from the turn of the last decade and yet she has had shockingly little influence on the pop world of today compared to her contemporaries. Even her "better" music has not aged well at all and in hindsight it seems like nothing she did was truly original or groundbreaking for its time with the exception of I Kissed A Girl, a song that served no purpose other than to attract controversy without which Teenage Dream would probably not have been the instantly immense success it was. (New patron by the way, love your content xo! ❀)

If Kendrick drops another album on the level of GKMC, he has to be top 3 all time.

Aywa

Nardwuar is the internet's nerdiest music nerd

Man on the Moon 3 wasn’t a groundbreaking record, but definitely altered my opinion on previous cudi records in a positive way. You can directly see new sounds and techniques he acquired from the last 10 years of albums reworked in a really beautiful way on a ton of tracks (think the moaning synth outros from KSG, the more PP&DS melodic pre-chroruses on every track, the Motm 2 chanted chorus vocals, the more electronic intros and tags from Indicud and Satelite Flight, etc

Julian Dene

Kanye will never recover artistically

It's annoying when the streaming art for an album is different than the vinyl art

SAMIR

My brother hates on plenty of fun music because it’s “not raw.” Raw music does not equal good music, and fun and/or popular music does not mean it can’t be raw. Just because a song is sad and mopey doesn’t mean it’s raw. A lot of artists use sad/vibey sounds in the same way other artists use fun/upbeat sounds to their advantage.

Jack Searl

They have at least 3 very good songs

Moritz Lutz

Compared to AJR, Imagine Dragons is High Art. No way they are as bad as AJR

Kale is an S-Tier vegetable - works well in stir fry, salads, soups, and can even be chips when toasted. Not to mention it’s a pretty houseplant.

Jonathan Beltran

Taking bets. Who will be the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Performer? My $$$ is on Billie Eilish.

Laugh now cry later is a diss on Kanye because “laughing now” and “crying later” is basically bipolar disorder (which Kanye has) and Drake says “the distance between is not like a store, this isn’t a closable gap” -Kanye worked at Gap

Please give us a New Order good to best list.

membertatooine

What are your thoughts on all of the HHT accounts getting called out?

While the story behind In the Aeroplane Over the Sea caused it to become a massive indie darling, On Avery Island is sonically its equal and an even BIGGER accomplishment for the band, as they had to find their sound basically as they wrote it

Morgan

Your follower count is an L, my guy 😳

Vipul Konnur

for months i'd been meaning to write this but i always psyched myself out: SOPHIE truly is the aphex twin of the 2010s on, from the way she innovated with her unparalleled sound design and sequencing, to the way she totally upended and reinvigorated a whole new generation of electronic/pop musicians. her approach to studying the physical properties of sound and reconstructing them with synthesis is an approach so tactile, unique and core to her style, but one that is so technically complex no one can reproduce it, even almost a decade after her debut. this is one of the biggest losses in the music industry, and we'll be playing catch up for years to come, if we ever even do. rest in power, SOPHIE.

jeff

Flip the 6 upside down on Tyler, The Creator's Wolf. Comparing it to it's later descendants, Wolf was a good changing point for Tyler, and you can hear a lot of factors of what made Flower Boy in this album. It also is a great combination of the overtly dark lyrics from Goblin and Bastard as well as the later album's sad overtones with songs with melancholy themes on the backburner like 48, Answer, and Rusty.

Indigo V

Do you feel like you reviewed enough of the best genre (Sleepy Music) last year?

MGMT's Congratulations is way better than Little Dark Age.

Limp Bizkit might've been fine if Fred Durst wasn't their frontman

Frogs are the best animals

Froggoking

People don't give the Mountain Goats enough credit for their musical ability. The whole "you listen to them for the lyrics" thing is over-simplified and kinda outdated; people really underrate their advances in composition and production over the past couple decades, especially on albums like Goths

X-Ambassadors are way more boring than Nickleback or Imagine Dragons

F**k Phil Spector

Señor C

LESS COLDPLAY HATE PLEASE. While I know that Coldplay has released some awful music, albums like X&Y, Viva La Vida, and even parachutes are great albums and they absolutely should not be lumped into the same category as bands like Nickleback or Imagine Dragons.

How important are lyrics for a good album?

Had the Born This Way album been released in 2018-2020 it would’ve been in your top of the year. Not a big fan of that album but its influence on today’s hyper/pc-pop is undeniable!!

I think the kid LAROI deserves more respect than he gets. I know his stuff isn’t groundbreaking by any means and I wouldn’t consider him top tier but his music is still very relatable, well produced, and emotional imo. Idk I just think he gets a bit too much hate.

JID’s next album will be a classic and a 9/10

You should release more music under the name Taiga

The great curve is the only talking heads song that doesn't sound better live

Aggressive/loud vinyl sounds better than pretty/calm vinyl

Samuel Baron

The second disk of Marquee Moon is not nearly as good as the first. It lacks the catchiness and innovation of the first, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with slower tunes, they're not very emotionally potent. It's kind of a drag.

Just so we’re clear.... CAN’T SAY > SICKO MODE > STOP TRYING TO BE GOD > CAROUSEL > NO BYSTANDERS > WAKE UP > NC-17 > STARGAZING > RIP SCREW > ASTROTHUNDER > 5% TINT > SKELETONS > WHO? WHAT? > HOUSTONFORNICATION > COFFEE BEAN > BUTTERFLY EFFECT > YOSEMITE

have you read Robert Christgau's positive reviews of albums you despise (Professional Rapper, The Big Day, Southside)? do his opinions give you a different appreciation for those records or do they make you feel like the Dean of Rock Criticism is way off base and/or out of touch?

bressig

You've both praised and criticized different albums for high fidelity recordings (e.g. To Be Kind and most prog metal, respectively). What makes for a good use and a bad use of high fidelity recording?

Owen W

There will never be another great Eminem album, he has become so contrived and full of himself with how “self aware” he thinks he is addressing the backlash he constantly gets and making fun of it, but only adds more fuel to the fire that is his career. He needs to face it, he hasn’t made a good album since he stopped doing drugs, and even then his albums were only good at best.

Billy Joel is a very under appreciated/ over appreciated artist. He had some really impressive and timeless music that was overshadowed by his pop hits. When he is at his best, he is an incredible song writer with time spent in multiple genres. However, due to the success of hits like uptown girl and longest time he is only recognized for the corniest moments of his career He’s like the Macklemore of classic pop rock music.

Nick Denhalter

I’m old and tired and I want live music with comfy seats and headphones plugged into the mixer.

Office Policy

Ye is one of Kanye’s best albums and the way that he showed his raw emotion and didn’t hold back about his mental illness makes it one of his most important albums. Also ghost town and violent crimes are in his top 10 best songs ever

also tyranny is incredibly overhated

The National made a whole career trying to recreate "Blind" by Swans but still haven't made a song of comparable quality

I See Seaweed is one of the greatest and most thought provoking albums of recent memory and each year becomes increasingly more relevant. were it released today the album would undoubtedly turn more heads.

Ever think of going back and doing "albums I wish I'd review" videos in the vein of you classic reviews? It's been 3 years and I'm still waiting on a Mid-Air Thief - "Crumbling" review.

Philip Walsh

The only thing keeping Lil Darkie from stardom is people uneducated to how he operates.

Indigo V

Duel of the Fates is a certified banger

bressig

Young Thugs next solo album will be an 8/10

Not a hot take, rather a question about editing of your videos. For example, you can say in your review that album A is weaker than Album B in terms of some themes, mixing, etc. Then we then can usually see one or two albums popping up that are stronger in that component (without you mentioning them). So my question is, does Austen ask you which albums he should edit in or he just does his own research/remembers your reviews so well that he doesn't need your guidance?

Baroness - Purple was a top 10 album of the decade and had better hooks than any Iron Maiden album

1 800 PAIN is Death Grips' Exmilitary but remixed by 100 Gecs.

Pure Comedy is horribly pretentious regardless of how “self aware” it is

Anderson Buford Wakeman Howe forming and putting out a self titled album and then shortly reforming back to yes was a little ridiculous I still find the Anderson Buford Wakeman Howe self titled album to be a very pivotal moment in the history in yes and most certainly Jon Anderson’s career and discography. What are your thoughts ?

the type of review where you go through an album track by track is better than when you pick out a few you like and dislike

Outside of a few tracks, Motörhead are more of a good meme than a good band
