Spaced S2 Ep3 "Mettle" REACTION!

Day of the dead reference when daisy was walking like a zombie in the kitchen, also used same music. They made her walk in like bub the intelligent zombie

Philippa Forrester was a presenter on robot wars

mav

Before my time! 🤣

Jonathan Charles

There were 3 robots in this episode that were actually on Robot Wars: Invertebrat, Cerberus and Plunderbird 4. Explosives, corrosives, acids and untethered projectiles were all banned in Robot Wars and only house robot Sgt Bash had a flamethrower. I think certain explosives or projectiles were allowed in the Battlebots reboot (Brutus and Double Jeopardy had them). I would be down for Robot Wars reactions if you're down for it.

MarBL Wrexbro

No he didn’t say goodnight to the axe but the robot 😂

Kieran B

Terri’s not a secretary she’s a Civil Servant (ie works for the Department not the politician or the party) - she’s the Director of Communications

Kieran B

And they use the Hitchhiker’s Guide beep

Kieran B

And Nick used to live on a kibbutz in Israel

Kieran B

Apart from series 1 which was Jeremy Clarkson…

Kieran B

I like both Robot Wars and Battlebots and would like to see rreactions to either.

MarBL Wrexbro

Robot Wars in the UK was presented by Craig Charles - or as you know him, Dave Lister.

Jonathan Charles

Oh, really? I thought I saw ginger hair in a pompadour, so I was thinking she was some '50's housewife character.

Joe Thornhill

That'll be Olivia Newton-John in other parts of Grease. The background song is pretty similar to "Hopelessly Devoted To You" if you want to search online.

Z is for Zed

One flew over the cuckoo's nest

Steven McMahon

So, bad Daisy is Olivia Newton-John in Grease. But who's good Daisy?

Joe Thornhill

And the double Knight Rider strip on Private Iron.

Joe Thornhill

I fuckin' love that guy!

Jon Morgan

Craig Charles (Lister from Red Dwarf) used to present it.

Mouse

The beginning is a robocop reference

Rob webber

Good stuff. 🐦 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTya9plCEnc

Jason Scade

I see they threw in the sound of ORAC's (Blakes 7) shutdown noise when they turned it off near the beginning.

Paul Casey

Oh, I saw them live back in the day. If I hadn't kept my ticket stub, I'd have forgotten. Their song 'Four Day Weekend' still kicks ass!

Jason Scade

I never knew that, I watched it all the time but must have missed the first series then

Mark Jones

Terri from The Thick of It here , yes. The communications civil servant

Chris

Spot the band The Bluetones in this episode. Two of their songs are used in the series as well.

Chris

A few seconds after the door closed, you thought she started shooting up the place? Peak 'murrica, fuck yea! thinking there KB!

Z is for Zed

Hey KB, i've just found this video with every spaced movie reference in it for you. Hope this is helpful haha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVuCVmDWU-U&t=347s&ab_channel=Channel4Entertainment

Sam Evans

The US has battlebots which is arguably better

Aaron

Clarkson presented series 1, but Charles was a better fit.

Curse These Metal Hands!

He was in Max and Paddy.

emu cat

idnkt ta.

emu cat

Don't know if you have it in the states but this episode is based on Robot wars which used to be popular in the 90s/ 00s - might be fun to check out if you haven't seen it Sorry just watched the ending where you referenced it!

Rebecca Musson

This

Nothinghalo

"AH YEAH AH HADDEN THORTA DAT" might be my favourite line delivery of the series

David Lyons

It's so fucking good.

Jamie

The opening scenes are based on Robocop btw https://youtu.be/2z8tQqZG8gI?t=37

Nick was a waiter in a restaurant and was trying to do stand-up but failing really badly as stand-up just isn't his thing, so if he hadn't met Simon he may never have become an actor. Also Simon jokes about the girlfriend who introduced him to Nick saying he dumped her and kept Nick! 🤣

Mark Jones

They never grew up together, they met because Nick worked with Simon's girlfriend and she told Simon she worked with a really funny guy and that's how they first met, then Simon got Nick a part in Spaced even though Edgar Wright wasn't convinced at first, and the rest is history.

Mark Jones

Reece Shearsmith as Dexter. He's awesome. One fourth of the League of Gentlemen which you may already know (I'm still watching this so not sure if you mention it later!) I wish you'd give LOG a go! Weird is good KB! 😜

Beccy

My favourite episode! Reece Shearsmith is hilarious in this. I don't think the scene where Tim and Daisy almost kiss is a reference to something. I could be wrong. I think it's just Tim wanting to role play with Philippa Forester, who a lot of people had a crush on the 90s. She was one of the presenters on Robot Wars.

Joe Blakeley

Craig Charles who played Lister in Red Dwarf was the presenter of Robot Wars over here, it was very popular at it's peak

Mark Jones

Tall guy on the right: the builder from IT Crowd that pissed everywhere. And yes, that's the woman from The Thick Of It, and also in that scene is the son of the guy who played the same role in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (the big Native American fella).
