Grandma is a fiesty one!

Gavin and Stacey S2 Ep3 REACTION!

Comments

No 16 is fine to 15 is when it’s illegal

Adam

In season it's still pretty nice. The beach is stunning and superbly kept, the immediate area deteriorates the further you get from the beach but it's still fine for a seaside town. And the fairground isn't as well kept as it used to be but is very active with some great rides.

David Butler

Nessa says "Oh" and oppose to say "Hey."

Tone Grumbt

Bryn and Nessa did do Islands in the Stream for Comic Relief even roping in actual Tom Jones 😉

Graeme Robertson

I was about to reply that John Prescott isn't dead but then I saw the bbc news notification :'(

Rach

Thought i missed a big one!

Dave L

RIP John

kdoganorak

Stacey's maiden name is West, as in Fred and Rose West.

Joe Blakeley

Came here to say this, I feel like maybe the delivery is just a bit too melodramatic and the dry British humour isn't cutting through

daniel shears

I was gonna say cycling but I'm sure he doesn't have a bike, since he's got his big ol' 'merican pickup. And I'm thinking cheep workouts, where you don't have to buy any gear.

Joe Thornhill

The place is called Barry, nice but you want to go Swansea or Cardiff both close

Adam Williams

Tbf most of Nessa's stories rely on a knowlege of niche British celebrities, like I wouldn't expect Boomer to know who Richard and Judy are because I reckon most british young people today don't even know who they are, and without the knowledge the joke is completely lost

Rach

Nessa's stories are another bit that KB might miss sadly.. but I think missed most of them on the first watch to be fair.. blink and you miss them. Mostly the references to her ex's including Jon Prescot. Her handle on the lorry radio being 'Robert Mugabe' is also a good one!

kdoganorak

The show is filmed almost exclusively in South Wales..even when they are supposed to be in Essex. The kebab shop on the stag doo is in Cathays, a student area of Cardiff (It was fun recognising when I was at uni and living round the corner!) Gavin's house (supposedly Billericay in Essex) is in Dinas Powys.. in-between Cardiff and Barry.

kdoganorak

Loose Women is the UK’s version of The View.

Rob Palmer

Just a little nugget but written in to the show is some little hidden humour around British serial killers, part of this episode had Doris talking about her ‘Moira’ as in a indirect joke that she is the mother of Moira Hindley one of the moors murderers, Gavin’s surname is Shipman, where we had Dr Harold Shipman who was a serial killer who used injections targeting elderly patients, Coming up at some point Pete’s surname is revealed to be Sutcliffe 😂 the Yorkshire Ripper had the same name, there are probably some others! But just thought i’d ramble on about that for a bit 😄

Dave L

Can't afford that, especially if I want to go on holiday

Mark Jephson

Yes she painted those.

Brian Moran

Doing 5 - 10 mlles a day (or atleast 2 - 3 times a week) on a bike is good too,

James Steel

Doris is awesome!!! Town is Barry Island but I guess you know now

Paul

This is rich coming from me, but why did you stop working out a few months ago and why wait 'till new years? If you want to get it done, get of your fat Muppet arse and workout. I don't get the thing with gyms either. Just do sit-ups and push ups on the bed. Do push ups on a goal post or climbing frame or something (the proper, Rocky Balboa victory stance type ones. Not the silly little curls that Sarah Conner did in Judgment day). Do squats anywhere. Run around the block a bunch of times. If that's not enough, find something heavy (like bricks) and put it in a backpack or something. Just don't push yourself on the first day. Do about half what you think you can do and you wont hurt the next day.

Joe Thornhill

I meant to ask. Did QB paint both the palm tree sunsets? You don't have to cover the back wall. Just some stuff on all the walls.

Joe Thornhill

Probably both.

Dave Roberts

Llanberis is a strange example to use. I actually live in a very working class area myself, of which I'm proud. The point I was making was that Americans seem to think that the UK is "cute" and "quaint", but what makes the UK what it is, it's uniqueness IS THE WORKING CLASS areas. It's not all like the fucking Cotswolds or York.

Dave Roberts

Great reaction, this show is a classic always good to rewatch. I love Barry Island. I live close to there so we went there every summer when I was a kid on days out to the beach and on the rides etc. I still go there now in the summer it’s a good day out. 🙂

Jord Ayres

I grew up in Cardiff - about a 30min drive from Barry. My memories of it are from 15-20 years ago so it may have changed. We sometimes used to get the train there to go to the beach for the day. It wasn't the cleanest, and the seagulls are vicious, but we had a nice time. The town is fairly typical for a small Welsh seaside town, but there's a fairground with some small roller coasters and a games arcade. The roads are tiny. There isn't much going on. I knew some teachers from my school used to commute from there though. I think housing was cheaper for the most part, but I remember there were some huge cliff-side houses too that looked amazing.

Chaitra

I live in Camborne Chase AONB and even here the litter on the verges is out of control. Very depressing. 14 years of Tory cuts has left this country broken.

Chris

Dave mate, someone’s gonna have to have a look at your devices. This isn’t a normal comment.

Joe Wilson

Barry is an ex industrial port but the coastline around there is really pretty. If you want the majorly scenic parts I would go up to the mountains of Snowdonia but all good for different reasons.

gabi_mac79

Oh! is a polite bristish / welsh way of saying what the actual fuck are you doing

James Steel

Literally one of the funniest and underrated lines 😂😂

Lauren Massey

What's being working class got to with an area being cute or quaint? You sound like some kind of lower middle class twat to be fair mate, go to Llanberis in Snowdonia for example, an extremely working class village but as cute, charming and quaint a village as you'll ever experience, you're on a roll tonight, of talking utter shyte!!!

Mark Jones

Okee dokeeeeeeeeeeee, what you consider 'Normal' certainly isn't, what a warped view! Have you considered counselling? And please talk for yourself and your own experiences, don't try and make out that what you talk of is a remotely common British thing!

Mark Jones

They’re really underplayed and I think KB is just not getting the cues so much with this one

Kieran B

Just to clarify here boomer, paedophilia is not ok here. We despise it as much as the next reasonable nation. This guy is a twat that's talking absolute bollocks.

Mike Currie

Less is more mate.

Jamie

Bro youre a weirdo

Tom

yes, 17 is considered OK, 16 a crime. Many men and women in the UK have had sex with a 16 year old when they were older. My father had sex with my mum when she was under age, never have I thought of him as a paedophile

Dave Roberts

I saw your other comment, you're either drunk or a prick. Both I imagine

Jamie

What the fuck are you on about? Twat.

Jamie

I think the UK is quite nice. But hey, everywhere has it's rough bits?

Jamie

Had to drive 3 hours to fix a computer in Barry once. Reminds me a lot of where I live, small seaside town with an Arcade and lots of fish n chip shops

Peter Andrews

Barry is the name of the town, not Barry Island, Barry Island is the name given to the fun fair. Barry is a very working class town.

Dave Roberts

Erm, the town is called Barry, not as 'cute' as you think, it's a very working class area, quite poor in fact and locals complain of rubbish on the streets etc... The UK generally isn't what it seems on some of these 'travel' vlogs. I just watched a video shot in Halifax, Yorkshire, full of poverty and terrible conditions.

Dave Roberts

They live in Barry (where Gwens house is) and the beach bit is called Barry Island. Both real places where they actually filmed it (and just filmed the 2024 Christmas special)

Bikeaholic

Lucy is 17 in the show, which makes her not underage in the uk. Although borderline noncey for Smithy. No idea what the rest of your comment is on about.

Mike Currie

Dave Roberts

Wankered = very drunk!

John Dawber

Then wondering if he could afford a holiday after he kills himself 😅

Rach

"You? You'd need 'undreds"

Grace

I'm getting the feeling a lot of the humor isn't connecting with you Boomer, three of my favorite lines in this episode and your face didn't twitch at any of them. Hope you're enjoying it regardless though! The town is called Barry by the way, not too far out of Cardiff.

Rach

They live in Barry, it’s supposed to be a bit naff which is why they chose it - but I’m sure it’s fine. Wales has some overlooked coastline

Kieran B

Smithy was talking about his barely legal girlfriend Lucy when he was crying. He'd told her about Nessa and she dumped him.

Mike Currie

7 minutes so maybe you learn later, but Smithy had a girlfriend the whole time. She just revealed that she had been cheating on him

Tim Atkins

Smithy was talking about his girlfriend Lucy, she’s been referenced from the start - she was mentioned in the scene earlier in the episode

Kieran B

Also I agree, Barry is pretty

Cal

Are things still fairly well kept there? Seen many places like this where they get really run down as it's quite old fashioned and they become depressing.

D A N

The ‘oh’ is a Nessa thing, we’d normally say ‘oi’ - she’s been doing it form the start

Kieran B

It’s Barry island in south wales, very nice actually, went in the summer and the beach is lovely

James Barnes

At 4:15 where you asked why she kept saying ‘oh’, she’s basically saying the equivalent to ‘oi’. Another Welsh thing haha

Cal

Doris isn’t the grandma, just the next door neighbour

Kieran B
