The Thick Of It SPECIAL Rise Of The Nutters REACTION!

The best way to kick off the new reactions is with a GREAT special!

Give me some feedback on the new set up. (Sound, lighting, etc.)

The Thick Of It SPECIAL Rise Of The Nutters REACTION!

Comments

God the writing on this show man, it's sooo good!

Rhi

I thought this was an interesting bit of trivia: That awful newsnight interview was actually cut from real footage of a newsnight interview in which some junior minister got totally destroyed by Paxman. I assumed they just got Paxman to act on the show but it's his genuine reaction to a real politician and car crash interview.

RA Keogh

You need that acoustic baffling from last episode lol

Geraint Harrison

RIP George Alagiah

mav

Is it? I barely noticed a difference.

David Williams

So many people that work in British politics have said this is pretty much exactly what it’s like

Kieran B

Bring back the old chair bruv, miss your Gunt

Gil Johnston

Ah man I forgot how good these specials are!

AdamMcAdamface

The flatmate (Will Smith) is one the main writers of Veep as well as Slow Horses, which he’s the showrunner of too

Kieran B

On the face of it the whole thing has completely broken down now as you are saying. Id love to see this series done now, that would be a challenge!

Richard Stokes

Bit small isn't it lol rik mayall reference 😆 sorry, great to see you settling in dude 😊

Rob webber

The camera work in this episode is crazy. It's like the cameraman was drunk or something. I've never liked this approach they take when movies and TV shows have deliberately shaky scenes.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

The setup works fine. The only thing that feels a little unusual is the low camera angle. I think I'm used to higher, face level angle. But it's fine either way. We'll get used to it, once you've figured out how you want it, going forward.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

I was late to watching Slow Horses because I didn't realise it was THIS Will Smith who wrote it. Love him

Sam Popplestone

Jeez I forgot about the N bomb @ 12:50

Relyx

Wait. You've got two monitors and you don't even have the video full screen???

Joe Thornhill

Jesus Christ!!

Dave Roberts

And it's more like reverb, not echo. Echo is the sound bouncing back at you late enough that you hear it twice or more. Reverb is just the sound lingering for a split second. Like dropping something in a large hall with wooden floors (our school assembly halls.

Joe Thornhill

I know the camera was on the desk before, but maybe because you've got a chair that can stay upright (pointing the camera up more) and there's more space behind you, it feels a little too personal. Like Roy, stuck under the girls desk in I.T. Crowd.

Joe Thornhill

The two Scots, Malcolm Tucker and Jamie MacDonald are bad cop and worse cop. Truly apocalyptic in their approach to almost everyone. They evicerate anyone in their sights. Deliciously nasty and great to watch.

Yaapsdad

The beginnings of Terri's Mannion obsession.

Neal Murdoch

The reaction is the thing. I'm sure we'll not get to precious about your set up and surroundings. As long as you are comfortable and happy with them then it's fine. The channel is really about the reactions not the other details imo. Get settled and comfortable and it'll be great

Yaapsdad

Yep same for me. Closest one to a sane person there, seems a fundamentally decent person and also wonderfully sarcastic.

Richard M

Are you sure thats why you're eating the pineapple. All us men this side of the pond knows of that trick. Our offerings cant be salty!!!

Laurence P-O

It feels like you're in a room that you have just moved in to.

Jamie

It's a tad annoying, why not just sort it? Also the light is pretty harsh.

Jamie

Awesome reaction and congrats on moving. The echo isn't bad at all

Jack Nicholas

Nice stream KB, all worked great, what you do need though is some air fresheners for after you visit the shitter. Next special 'Spinners and Losers' follows the story on from this. I gave a brief summary in the comments of the last episode of Series 2. Basically Malcolm has to scheme his way into the likely new nutter Prime Minister's inner circle.

Fordy7169

Peter Mannion (The opposition MP) is a fantastic character. You can tell he's, perhaps surprisingly, a decent bloke beneath everything, but does get swept up into a world he no longer understands.

ALW

I love Peter Mannion, he's probably my favourite character after Malcom.

Rach

I'm confused why they used it, but of course the English think that everywhere in Wales is a tiny village over run with sheep, which is only true for 50% of places!!

Dave Roberts

only 6 minutes in so you may say or someone else may have done, but these new guys at the beginning are the 'opposition party' out of Government and whilst no colours/ or affiliation are stated, they are clearly meant to be Conservative, whereby Malcolm is a 'spin doctor' for the Labour Party, who are in Government for I think the first 3 series. Peter Mannion MP played by the brilliant Roger Allam is brilliant in this from this point on.

Dave L

Yeah, it is really nice. My uncle lives there.

Craig McCulloch

The town in Wales were the politician went on holiday "Penarth" described as "Having one shop selling firelighters" is actually a large rather posh town with plenty of shops and restaurants, basically in the suburbs of Cardiff. I lived there in 1990 and even then it was considered posh. It's really nice and has a Victorian pier.

Dave Roberts

Absolutely top drawer reaction to a brilliant episode, laughed so much along with you, really needed that tonight so thanks! It also introduces the brilliant Roger Allam as Peter Mannion - he's definitely a favourite of mine going forward. Is this the right time to say that I had a really weird crush on Malcolm's enforcer Jamie? Well, I've said it now, I am not ashamed. As for your new environment - a couple of things: Actually first of all, love the t-shirt, love "A League of Their Own" - great movie. With regards to the reverb echo in the room, you're going to be fighting against those high ceilings there - yes, you can add soft furnishings around the room that will go a fair way to reduce it a bit - but I'm guessing you still want to it to function as a guest room as needed without it looking like a bordello. Personally, the reverb doesn't bother me too much - but if it does become a problem, invest in a couple of lavalier microphones for you and QB - wireless ones that you can wear that will eliminate the ambient room noise - but I'm not an expert and it will complicate your setup a little more than you're used to - I'm sure others with more experience might be able to suggest other things too. For now though, thanks for this, you've got a lot on your plate at the moment and I for one am grateful you got this out for us today x

Phil Robinson

is something up with patreon i cant get any vids to play tonight

J

@23:20 Haha KB you've still got your old "muscle memory" for out-of-the-chair losing it from your old place, need to accustom to your new surroundings....

Oliver

🤔 something looks different in this video and I can’t put my finger on it

Nunabissess

Actually the echos bad when you laugh.

Dave Roberts

Slight echo but not serious. There's no crying in cricket either, and they catch the heavier bigger ball without gloves. Real men!

Dave Roberts

I like the set up despite the slight echo. Hopefully Jane will be around at times on the bed or seeking your attention. 🤗😂

South Coast Rich

The irony is that the Tories are currently more socialist than the Labour party, but not as left as the Lib Dems. A rotten choice for most of the electorate !

South Coast Rich

I think that's the guy from V for Vendetta.

Mouse

Random mention of Kilmarnock (Scotland) in this, where Tucker mentions where the Newsnight presenter is visiting her gran. Original home of Johnnie Walker whisky, if KB knows his drinks.

Ryan Lynch

The Tories did have a version of Malcolm who did exactly this when they were trying to pretend they weren't really far right anymore. He had them wearing snazzy shirts without a tie and having touchy feelie weird meetings! and that was about it! even Cameron had to pretend he liked Breaking Bad to pretend to be like normal people!

Richard Stokes

Hope the move gone/going well!

Reece Brown

New set up looks great. The echo doesn't bother me. Hope you're settling in nicely. Can't wait for this reaction!

Joe Blakeley

I'm finding the grey walls a little unsettling, can you please go back to Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter please?

Jason Bonner

A pleasant surprise thank you boomer, hope you settle into the new place nicely 👊
