The Thick Of It S2 Ep3 REACTION!

Comments

Pease do the film - in the loop

Robbie

You are doing series 3 yes?

Sam Popplestone

Please please don't skip the two specials. They are magnificent.

Jack Nicholas

The Specials might be the absolute best TTOI content, DO NOT skip them! They are fantastic!

Scrumple Floobs

You can't go wrong with Italy.

Michael Burke

Its for him , selfishly me and everyone else. I enjoyed seeing an American reaction - but now its its my mates reaction and the great community on this channel ( we have said it to each other many times before how great it is .. and the bad ones that slipped in .... oh we were talking about them and watching them before they left!) Love that I have a bit to help when I can in this fun space of escapism and nostalgia on this channel. Watching Brian lose his shit and the comments from everyone else is a lovely cherry on the cake if ive helped.

Craig McCulloch

I knew it was you, I was just trying to be subtle lol. Anyway, you're an absolute legend for doing this for our Brian.

Phil Robinson

Which Muppet did you think would be dishing out such verbously glorious swearing content?

Craig McCulloch

sure some other fellow muppets may have said, but after this episode there are two specials, I think spinners and losers and rise of the nutters, I think, then you have season 3 and season 4. There is also a film called in the loop, where a few characters stay the same but its about a minister going to Washington and a impending Middle East war, James Gandolfini is in it

Dave L

Learn to read guy. ‘Properly’, and in case your comprehension isn’t great, it’s also my opinion hence me posting it.

John

No KB you're getting most of the humour, just the references to UK celebrities/famous people which is understandable.

Fordy7169

No I'm pretty sure Series 1 Episode 1 is the start as with most conventional shows. Just because someone doesn't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Like electricity for instance.

Fordy7169

No many people say privacy, I always have and I'm not 'posh' and it's the most common way I've heard it pronounced on UK TV, radio, Movies, Work and life in general. I have heard some say it the other way but it doesn't really matter everyone understands the meaning.

Fordy7169

Was in Italy this year, lovely place, well worth a visit.

bobsonian

Brilliant reaction I could watch a few of these in a row.

Daniel Monney

Hugh is easily the best part.

Jamie

It's the opposite for me.

Jason

What an episode

TravellingBlade

It’s lines like that which remind you Glen isn’t sympathetic just because he gets a lot of jokes about being a past his prime, old, loser. He can be just as cruel and awful as the rest.

Mark Fraser

'In the Loop' does set up a kind of meta-joke and plays with your expectations regarding a new character in series 3, though. (Won't spoil by going into detail)

David Lyons

We also say 'pr-eye-vacy'. I think it's just the posh people that pronounce it the way the dodgy bloke said it

Sam Evans

Please don't let comments wind you up! You're so connected to the whole British sense of humour (ha, the comments section is telling me I spelt it wrong! Ok, humor. Just for KB!) I hope you, QB and the Little B are safe and well.

ANTONY

KB is on the case - fear not

Craig McCulloch

☺☺

Craig McCulloch

I’m pretty sure the third series is when it properly starts. The thick of it I associate with anyway. I don’t even have any memory of the first 2 seasons, the earlier sets or even the minister. It’s possible I’ve never seen them. Nicola Murray and this setting is what I remember.

John

Rise of the nutters & Spinners and losers next. Featuring the return of some great characters and introducing some who are even worse humans than the current lot.

Neal Murdoch

I don’t think anything significant was missed. To be fair they do whisper quite a lot, but some of the niche references are not important.

Julian T

You need a good understanding of early 00s British pop culture as well as British politics to get everything that's mentioned.

Chris

It's not a criticism. It's good you like it. But yep, I reckon half the jokes go unnoticed. Pretty much every other line of dialogue has one.

Chris

brilliant episode, hugh, glen and ollie are hilarious trio

J

I agree that you notice more of the subtle stuff on rewatches, the first time I watched this I was bamboozled and had to watch it a few times to digest it! Isn't that the point though? It's not a "laugh out loud" comedy which allows you to take a breath, you actually need to concentrate and watch the madness act out. I think KB relates more to this show than I did when I first watched it, and I consider myself pretty clued up on UK politics.

AdamMcAdamface

I agree with Adam, you absolutely don't need to know the ins and outs of British politics. In fact the first time I watched it I knew nothing about it all the relationships between politicians and the media etc., and if anything the show opened my eyes to it (if a fictional show can do that!)

Mark Durkan

Maybe not half but tbf this show is super fast paced and you need to understand the ins and outs of British politics/the civil service to fully appreciate, which I'd say about 80% of Brits don't even understand. Also there are a lot of references to things that happened around that period. I remember watching it for the first time and not having a clue what was going on, was just watching for malcolms rants 😂 I've watched this show about 10 times now and there are still little jokes or references that I didn't realise were there

Nick Zhang

IMO I don’t think KB is missing that many of the jokes! I get your point if you’re referring to the complex (and frankly fucked up) relationship between politicians, advisors, the civil service and the media, but it’s not integral to the plot. I really don’t think you need a good understanding of UK politics to enjoy this show! (Unless you’re living in a country with a perfect political system. Ermm… Anyone?)

AdamMcAdamface

I know I miss things, but half? There are tons of things that I’ve understood but just haven’t laughed out loud. Lol I still don’t get why for some people if I don’t laugh at every single thing it’s because I don’t get it. I might just not find it funny enough to laugh out loud. If I laugh out loud at every single thing I’d be the fakest muppet on the planet. Anyway sorry for the rant.

Brian Moran

Malcolm is obviously the star of the show, but Glen has some of the best one liners. "Even though half of them are dead" was savage!

AdamMcAdamface

It's good that you're enjoying it, even with missing about 50% of the jokes. Saying that plenty of British people miss half of them too. Far too subtle and niche

Chris

3. Opposition Extra, then series 3.

Corey Williams

So there's 2 specials and a mini-episode before you should start S3: Special 1 - "The Rise Of The Nutters" Special 2 - "Spinners and Losers" Mini-episode - "Opposition Extra" I'd suggest the mini-episode isn't absolutely essential, just nice if you are able to get hold of it. The two main specials are vital though, IMO. Hopefully whoever is providing the source episodes to you can furnish you with them!

Phil Robinson

There is two specials, none contain abbot as, the actor got was dropped because of the noncing, but the are ‘the rise of the nutters’ & ‘spinners & losers’ there’s also a cut scene that was only available to Netflix & the dvd version, but that’s basically Ollie looking for cheese!

Andi Main

No, 2 x 1 hour specials 1. Rise Of the Nutters, 2. Spinners and Losers then Series 3. These both specials follow on from each other. Hugh Abbot is not in them and only mentioned by name as being on a trip. This was due to the actor Chris Langham's legal problems as you were told earlier KB. The writers weren't sure if he would be coming back at the time (he didn't). 1st special deals with a faction of MP's known as 'The Nutters' within Malcolm's govt. and party plotting to takeover from within. Malcolm then has to work out how to delay this and gain allies so he can keep his position in any new administration. Look out for Malcolm's attack-dog Jamie who re-appears and has a novel use for an iPod Nano.

Fordy7169

Next up are the specials Rise of the Nutters and Spinners & Losers. And you have the option of including the film In The Loop, which is non-canon (the actors play different characters except Malcolm and Jamie) but was released before S3. You can literally watch this at any point though as it won’t affect the series.

Mark Fraser

So there is two main specials before season 3. The first one is called ‘rise of the nutters’ and the second one is called ‘spinners and losers’ and if your interested there is a 10 mins mini episode as well set before season 3

TC Elba

3 specials between series 2 and 3
