Spaced S1 Ep6 "Epiphanies" REACTION!

I've heard the A-Team theme so much in the Top Gear Specials that I recognize it instantly now.

Spaced S1 Ep6 "Epiphanies" REACTION!

I dont miss clubbing in the 90's anymore.

DOSGamerMan

I was working a club in the 90's I remember this tune, I want to go out clubbing now but it 20 years later and 1020 in the morning

mav

The second half definitely “Drug” more…. 😅 So, this episode is possibly the favourite for most people that used to watch this show at the time. Because we were out clubbing and taking ecstasy every weekend. So a lot of the references in this episode are about that. Human Traffic is a film you should watch if you want to delve into the culture of late 90’s to early 2000’s club culture in the UK. I’d absolutely love to see you react to that. It’s a million miles away from Trainspotting. Where Heroin is about getting into a morose state of euphoria and not being able to function, ultimately leading to addiction and the absolute devastation of lives, Ecstacy is a comparatively safe party drug that is all about socialising, dancing, having a good time and feeling full of love. The convo between Tim and Daisy in the club is so resonant to most of us who have sat with friends to take a break from dancing for a while in those times. These chats were generally known as “deep & meaningful’s”, and built solid friendships. The water thing with Brian, is indicative of the vibes in ecstasy clubs. In a drinkers club if you spill somebody’s drink they might well get angry with you. Rarely came across anger in this kind of club though so Brian is feeling safe and feeling the love. Mike had a shitty ass day but went out, did some ecstacy with friends and ends up leading the whole club in a dance and having the time of his life. The twitching legs at the end was not just a funny idea, it happened, regularly. Please do a Human Traffic reaction if you haven’t already 🙏🏻

Su h nostalgia for being in my 20s in the 90's

Neal Murdoch

"Gone" in series 2 is the best

Chris

Nice one bruva

Miss_dash

Best episode, Tyres is my Hero.

Martin N

As Owen says, yes that was in season 2

Phil Robinson

Indeed. But they slightly dropped the ball here because that episode didn't have the theme music at the end, the credits were silent (just to make sure your nightmares were guaranteed). Still, what they did works for the joke they were making :)

Phil Robinson

MDMA is a helluva drug. When the most physical thing you could expect was a very tight bear hug from a complete stranger and in that moment you were the best of friends. They were good times. You can never go back though. I think they did a very good job in that whole club scene of capturing what that was like without explicitly saying what was being imbibed, including those little conversations when sat down for a bit and you and your best mate just sit there and big each other up and tell them how much you love them and then being just dragged back to the dance floor to have more fun.

Phil Robinson

This is one of my favourite spaced episodes, I've been waiting for your reaction to this 😊

Tyres O Flaterly is one of the best side characters in this series

Bikeaholic

I was gonna say the Irish guy's like August Rush, forming a beat from the phone, kettle, clock etc. But then the "I just wish I could control these FOOCKIN' MOODSWINGS" sounded familiar but I can't think if it was referenced in something else or if I caught it from a meme years ago.

Joe Thornhill

Kicking off with a banger.

Joe Thornhill

(The end bit, when you are analyzing things.) Just think of it as a Drama of two people living together. Any funny parts are a bonus.

Danny Heywood

Never take MDMA. It might make you happy.

Danny Heywood

😂👍👍

Jason Scade

The death of Danny Kendal in Grange Hill gave me nightmares

Owen Prosser

That's season 2 I think

Spaced is (loosely) based on the experiences of Jessica Hynes, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright (all Gen X'ers). To fully "get" this show you pretty much have to be a UK Gen X'er, otherwise a lot of jokes and situations don't hit. Series 1 especially plays on the nostalgia and UK Gen X experience, so it's understandable that you're not fully on board with it. I think you'll get on better with Series 2, which is broader in scope and doesn't necessarily rely on UK culture.

Jay

I'm hoping it's in a future episode

Sam Evans

Different episode

Kieran B

Yeah it's loaded with references to the popular and underground culture of the day in many forms, it's why people like me who's the same age as Simon Pegg love this show so much, there's still enough there for you to enjoy it obviously but there's quite a few references which will pass you by, and more so in this show than others.

Mark Jones

Where was the scene where he's dancing at the traffic lights/road crossing?

Natalie

Me too. First watched it after coming home from a club!

Natalie

Best time!

Natalie

Me too!

Caity H

1990’s ecstasy drug rave dance scene,

Duncan

the punch for Brian was the counterpoint between the 80's drink/coke/speed etc drugs bit more violent and 90's more luvved up acid/pills/molly. Brian wasn't expecting a 90's molly hug.

emu cat

The world feels slightly more in-order now you recognise the A-Team choon.

emu cat

this had full on human traffic vibes. You would love human traffic kb, set in cardiff wales, its about a group of friends who love the clubbing and extacy scene of the 90s. full on comedy, and funny as fuck.

Dave Jones

I have the entire episodes of the A-Team in a box set.

Mouse

I think one of the big pop culture references for this one was movie "Human Trafiic" (1999) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAPK6ZYq_p0

Mema Random

When they are all suddenly drinking water with wide eyes you know what they are referring to :P

Retro Ravi

Now you've seen this re-watch Shaun of the Dead and look out for Tyres

Kieran B

Probably my favourite episode

Kieran B

Those dance scenes are so long as it's tracking them slowly coming up then going mental, and then the very accurately done talking shit stage where you tell each your great!

Richard Stokes

Parody of human traffic

Rob webber

don't think this is referencing anything except the xtc pill dance culture from the 90's

Demceez

A lot of the episode references the UK rave/ecstacy scene of the 90s and it captures it perfectly!

electricduckpond

Tyres was a zombie in shaun of the dead and also plate Reverend green in worlds end
