Body Count is also another one

Also, Iron Maiden, Angel Witch, Bad Company, Motörhead, etc.

Arnarok

uk election results were sad

Mateus Nóbrega

bossa nova is pretty cool

TOMCAT

808's and heartbreak is kanye's best album

morabic

The most aesthetically pleasing element in rock music is the major key breakdown. As a result easycore is totally eargasmic to listen to.

Marshall Hanson

It is a really great streak, but Miles Davis totally smashes him as far as a great album streak goes!

Jack Bayley

also the 12 days of christmas is actually the worst xmas song

stoneinaidan

SANTA BABY and I SAW MOMMY KISSING SANTA are companion pieces that elevate each other lol

stoneinaidan

An artists death should not influence any critique of their art

Ronjackson

a list no one is talking about: what are some of the best tv performances of the decade? my mind goes to kendrick's 2016 grammy's performance as a frontrunner

Drake is a good rapper

Nathaniel Zaccagnini

Linkin Park has never been good. They have one DECENT album in Meteora, and the rest range from a dumpster fire to mediocre. Hybrid Theory only has like three good tracks. Linkin Park, even at their best, made pretty uninteresting nu metal and rap rock that most of the time just followed the same basic formula that gets tired after like four tracks. Here and there they'd throw a curve ball and actually make something refreshing (e.g. Break the Habit), but those spare tracks don't make up for the countless watered down metal and rap songs they flood their albums with. Never got the hype.

Jake LaMotta

Diamond Dogs is an awkward mess of pretty solid tracks thrown together for purely commercial reasons. It's the most critical fatal flaw of an album I've always wanted to love but can't. It might have been one of the coolest 70s concept albums if the "Hunger City" thing had continued all the way through (and then make the "1984" stuff a cool EP)

NevadaNate

Black Sabbath did it

NevadaNate

The Dark Side of the Moon may not be Pink Floyd’s best album (arguably), but it’s still one of their best and easily belongs in their S tier. People who hate on it unnecessarily are just mindless melon disciples who take everything you say as gospel.

tryhard

The B-Side is the greatest 20 minutes in the history of music

Aiden Ferry

I think this is agreeable to most

Aiden Ferry

What is your opinion on the band Sublime? I haven’t heard you talk about their music, and IMO they are a top 5 band of the 1990’s for their clever songwriting and well-executed blend of musical cultures. RIP Bradley Nowell.

Aiden Ferry

Blue Monday is the most "ahead of the curve" song of all time.

Kevin Frey

White people regularly use their love for boom bap/90s hip hop as an excuse for racism

Semo Adms

Pitchfork consistently did The Mars Volta dirty in its reviews, and it's one of the main reasons why I don't consider them to be a credible music review site, aside from it being another mouthpiece of the +$13B Conde Nast (and an irrelevant one at that)

exo

The whole "Anthony killed _________ with his bad review" is extremely tasteless, unfunny, and just universally awful and people should feel bad for making them so soon after an artist's death.

Adam Washington

everyone should give dave matthews band a second chance

pretzels

Fuck ugly god and the grinch are the greatest diss tracks of all time

Devin

albums can make or break an artist for example if chance didnt drop the big day he would easily be top 10

YRCChris

The debut hobo johnson album deserves a critical reevaluation. I get that it flawed and has some elements that turn people off, but to have it on sites like RYM sitting toe to toe in score with albums like Reckless, Supermarket and Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven does not give nearly enough credit to how unique and memorable his fusion of genres is

Austin Gaines

More a general question: do you consider getting song of the year from you (like This Is America) as impressive as getting a 9? An 8? How do you rate individual greatness vs a cohesive good album

Richard Horan

The fact that In The Aeroplane Over The Sea hasn't been mentioned on either "Most Overrated Albums" videos is a testament to the fact that most of the hype that album gets is well-deserved. Either that or that album's nay-sayers arent as vocal as its celebraters

Cameron Ford

John Frusciantes solo career is better than his time with the red hot chili peppers. Especially the album Niandre Lades and usually just a T Shirt being a lofi classic IMO or course!

Jack Bayley

You have ruined wearing yellow flannels -especially at a concert. This is nothing personal or an attack but just something I wanted to point out. I went to go see Daughters last night and the amount of people wearing yellow flannels and shouting your name was absurd.

Andrew Shaktah

Laura Jane Grace/Against Me! are one of the biggest influences on Punk music today and it has shown on most Punk records released in the past 5 years.

Jace Pons

There's also Run the Jewels on Run the Jewels by Run the Jewels

ActionV

is low roar the only band who's done a self-titled song on a self-titled album? "Low Roar" Low Roar Low Roar

haughty garbage

Death Stranding is the best Low Roar album

Though Question: What makes makes an album or a particular peice of music "pertensious"? Can albums be too pertensious?

Mitchell Blodgett

Abbey road is inconsistent and not as much of a high note as people say it is. The opener come together is empty and hallow with nonsense lyrics that feel like they come from John Lennon’s lack of care more so than a want for creative wackiness that is showcased in I am the walrus. Songs like octopus’s garden or maxwells silver hammer aren’t terrible but lack the depth of earlier Beatles material. The medley feels exactly like what it is, a bunch of unfinished songs stitched together, not a coherent musical piece, with songs like sun king feeling unfinished and forgettable, it doesn’t “come together” as a whole. I like because, something, and she’s so heavy but even those are plagued by the cold production of the album. Overall I don’t think it compares to their other stuff.

Brendan

Do you ever have find yourself pre-judging or feeling biased against artists whose political opinion either definitely does or might (ambiguously) differ from your own? Has it ever made getting into an artist that you ended up liking difficult, or maybe changed your opinion of a artist who you used to really admire?

A Policy Wonk Also from Butler PA

a lot of top 40 artists aren't actually that bad, artists like Lauv and Troye Sivan for example, they just tend to get bundled into the "mediocre" group just because their hits generally get played on the radio

ari

If DJMAX or Beatmania had really been pushed west around the peak Rock Band/Guitar Hero era and made a touch more accessible EDM would be unrecognizable for the worse as everyone would sound like a discount Porter Robinson.

TonicOri

The White Stripes' "Elephant" is a 10

Tristan Noel

This is Happening is the real album of the decade. Dance punk has never sounded this perfect before and it’s amazing to think that this was the note James Murphy originally wanted to “end” on. Ingenious grooves, brilliant production, lovely showcases displaying clearly who his influences are, and above all else fun as hell

Chris Hickson

I don't get the "All My Heroes Are Cornballs" hype

Emffles

Pinkerton showcases rivers Cuomo’s lyrics more than blue album let alone any weezer album

John camp

Spotify's end of the year wrap-up is useless if you are mostly an album listener, because then all of your top songs are just the first few songs from the album you listened to the most this year.

The Emo Trap boom is rap’s Grunge era

lowkeymatt

Some Rap Songs was a great album, but for his next project, Earl Sweatshirt should maybe return to a less abstract, lo-fi sound. Three or four more albums with this aesthetic are really not, what his career needs, especially after Feet Of Clay was so meh

Rush > Pink Floyd, Easily

Arnarok

“certain stylized” i meant genres. sorry

Dean BUSOUL

“artistic” music has never been valued the way it is right now (2000-2019) than in older years (etc. - 1999) or whatsoever. reason why we are is because of how bad and oversaturated the majority of popular or certain stylized music is nowadays. (terrible with my words but if you catch my drift thank you)

Dean BUSOUL

Anticon in general and cLOUDDEAD in particular produced huge amounts of great music ahead of their time but have largely been written out of history.

HMN

Rap artists should retire on top, and not become parodies of themselves.

Izza

MBDTF is not even Kanyes best album of the decade, let alone his best album overall. (not counting Kids See Ghosts as a Kanye album)

Simon

Pin Ups though.

Simon

Section 80 is Kendrick Lamar’s best record and TPAB is his worst. Change my mind.

EdibleMessiah

Sting's vocals on "Every Breath You Take" by the Police are the least important part of the song.

Same with duster smh

Quinn Irion

The easter egg songs for call of duty zombies are peak melodic metalcore. 115 is a fuckin' BANGER

Pol

MGMT’s best album is their self titled album, specifically the second half of the album. The soundscapes that they create in songs like I Love You Too, Death and Astro-Mancy are some of the most magical things I’ve ever heard

Noah Anderson

Pinata by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib is one of the best contemporary rap albums of all time

We need to find a way for animals to enjoy music after the humans are gone. It's important. They deserve it.

Gavin Drake

Jay Z is the biggest sellout of all time

Josh Fried

Why was “A Crow Looked at Me” only a 9 and not a 10?

Joey

Instead of bringing back "It came from bandcamp". You should make another series focusing specifically on music from across the globe that may not get as much attention as they usually would. Bandcamp is a great platform for these musicians and I wouldn't have known about artists like Yazz Ahmed, Ana Frango Electrico, and many more. A showcasing of music from across the globe can help broaden our appreciation for world music along with finding hidden gems that may have been lost to obscurity

Omar AlHashmi

I don’t think it’s necessarily more compelling. I think it’s just harder to come up with original ways of expressing happiness. People like conflict

Joey

Aphex twin is reaching joy division levels of aesthetic ubiquity and i don't like it

Les Rallizes Dénudés are the most underrated band of all time!!!! Not only did they take influence from the velvet underground, but they expanded on the noise and experimental aspects way earlier then any other group from the late 60s. Their influence carried throughout Japanese experimental, noise, and harsh noise groups such as Melt Banana, Fushitsusha, Hijokaidan, and White Hospital. Not to mention they have one of the most interesting band history’s of all time, with their alleged involvement of a plane hijacking with ties to the Japanese Red Army.

Quinn Irion

raekwons verse on gorgeous sounds like a mf doom ripoff. doom wouldve sounded wayyy better on the track then he did (granted its still one of the better verses on mbdtf)

Uncle Moe

The Great Southern Trendkill influenced You Won’t Get What You Want (guitar tones, vocal layering)

Charlie Davenport

The Happy Birthday Song. Fuck that shit. Chances are that if you're singing it, it's because you have to, not because you want to. And when you're on the receiving end of the song, there's nothing better than having to awkwardly stand there while people sing a song at you. Not to you or for you. At you.

Uncle Jam

David Bowie from 1971 to 1983 had the single greatest run of albums of any artist ever. He released 12 albums in this run and at most these were amazing, innovative and groundbreaking albums and they all were solid enjoyable releases.

Cooper

although atrocity exhibition is certainly more adventurous and definitely a *better* album, there's something to be said about the ability to be able to casually listen to uknowhatimsayin?. it's not as good but it's a really laid back and fun album. you can tell danny is healthier and happier which in itself makes this more joyous to listen to. i love AE, but uknowhatimsayin? is able to be appreciated in a way that AE simply cannot.

yasir y khaleq

Mac millers swimming album is actually fucking great.

Zachary Rothmann

playboi carti will not be that well remembered in 10 years. I like his stuff a lot, but I feel like he's too caught up in the trap wave, similar to how a lot of disco acts from the 1970s, nowadays being well forgotten.

Harvey Greene

death grips will retire soon.

Harvey Greene

The 2010s have been the best decade for music

Calvin Michael

Beck announcing that he isn’t a scientologist was honestly a relief. Not that it kept me from enjoying his art before, and maybe it doesn’t really matter all that much, but it was still disappointing to think he was part of such an abusive and destructive “religion” and it definitely makes me respect him more outside of his art to know that he’s not involved in it.

Dyl Byl

Out of all the genres, Crunkcore is the worst.

Benjamin Lisboa

The moment an artist boasts their wealth in their music is the moment I stop listening. I cannot understand how this became a staple of several genres. I guess this is what caused the ace family.

Seinfeld

Like 3 years ago. Now it's headed to reel to reel

Seinfeld

Both Daveed Diggs and Slug belong in the GOAT rapper conversation. Daveed regularly out-raps GOAT rappers and is stronger conceptually than any other fast rapper. Clipping is on the cutting edge of experimental hiphop, the Blindspotting EP was heat, and the dude was part of the biggest hiphop Broadway play in history and a cultural touchstone. As for Slug, if Ghostface is in the GOAT conversation, Slug deserves a seat at the table. He’s every bit the storyteller Ghost is if not better, he’s been consistently putting out work for three decades with no major drops in quality, and the dude led the way for both early emo rap and Midwest rap as a whole.

ZD

While your lukewarm reaction to it is fine, I found your criticism of the sound on Santana's new album a bit odd. You said the instruments and vocals felt too isolated from each other and lacked chemistry. I wondered if you were aware that the entire thing was recorded in live studio sessions with all players present.

NevadaNate

What score would you give the 2010s? Personally I'd give the decade a strong 5 to a light 6.

carsausage

People only hate your Swimming review because Mac died a month after it

beef

Paul Simon’s “Graceland” is one of, if not the best, albums of the 1980’s. It blends afro-beat, zydeco, and even Chicano rock seamlessly with folk and 80’s pop music. That’s not even mentioning it’s influence on seminal 2000’s indie acts such as Vampire Weekend, The Tallest Man on Earth, Jens Lekman, and tUnE-yArDs. It is the definition of a timeless classic that stood apart from any other American album released that decade.

BlueZones

Five Finger Death Punch doesn't deserve the hate they get: they deserve more. It's derivative bro metal that tugs at the hearts of JROTC kids in high school who punch holes in their drywall.

FELCommentary

I was one of the people angry at your DAMN. review but after coming back to it 2 years later you were right in fact I think it’s a 6 now

TeflonDoom

King Diamond’s best work came after he released Abigail. The albums he released after that record told better stories with better music. Nothing against Abigail, it’s still a great album but it’s not as great as Them, Conspiracy or The Eye.

Tim Arendt

The Undertale OST has some of the best music of the decade

corbitgun

Ben Folds Five had an amazing run in the 90s and are incredibly underated for the 90s rock scene

Bigmac9002

King of Limbs by Radiohead gets bashed far too much. It gave us some awesome experimental songs.

Sam Jirovec

Also love that the link to the last Let's Argue contains the text "lets argue Jesus".

Owen W

Lisa Simpson is the perfect example of a straight-edge vegan.

Zachary F Parker

Billie Eilish makes better music than Van Halen ever did

Reverie Foster

Van Halen with David Lee Roth was fantastic. I feel like a lot of people like to shit on them and act like they have nothing worthwhile, when the debut and fair warning are near perfect albums

Adam mezzarone

My dumb gf doesn't like Kate Bush. Prove her wrong.

Louie Gross

Neil Young is better than Bob Dylan in every aspect

Minyoung Kim

Subjects of pain, failure, rage, impotency, loss, or confusion are more aesthetic and artistically compelling in music and art than subjects of success, triumph, pleasure, or happiness.

Benedict Wright

Can you explain the difference between synth pop, electro pop, and dance pop? I have a hard time distinguishing them, especially with how much overlap there is between them.

Owen W

Hello Nasty is the best Beastie Boys album. It might not be a groundbreaking as Paul's Boutique, but it has a lot more variety, and I find myself coming back to it more

egg56

The alternate versions of the songs on the deluxe version of Muse’s “Simulation Theory” are better than the original songs and would’ve made for a better album overall (EX: The acoustic version of “Dig Down” vs the original).

Kincaid

Kidneythieves are one of the finest industrial groups of all time

Jon Hoskins

It’s about time Billboard changed the way they count album bundle sales. There were countless albums that would’ve never gone #1 otherwise.

BigBabyBerkis

While Queens of the Stone Ages “Songs for the Deaf” is probably their best record, I think records like Like Clockwork don’t get enough credit for also being a very well written and a being a consistent addition to the bands discography. Saying you prefer Like Clockwork to their other records is a fair argument. Same thing goes for Rated R. (i still like SFTD more tho)

Riley Schmedeman

Leonard Cohen is a better lyricist than Bob Dylan. his lyrics are more poetic, evocative, and subtle. while Dylan’s use of structure and the abstract is impressive in its own right, it’s quite unnatural compared to Cohen’s.

John Fu

Puffy AmiYumi dont get enough credit for introducing a whole generation of American kids to J-pop without them realizing it (Ex. the Teen Titans theme song & K2g which used for the iconic chase sequence in the first Mad Mod episode).
