It's when you actually own your own apartment but have to pay rent to the person who owns the actual building your flat is in, and then on top of ground rent you also have to pay into a maintenance fund for the upkeep of communal areas, I hated owning a flat because of this. I used to own a flat on Hove seafront which is a lovely area but the local council is run by the Gestapo, there were local by-laws which said we had to repaint the front of the building once every 5 years and the rear of the building once every 8 years and it was a 5 storey town house so painting it cost a small fortune, and we couldn't even choose the paint colour, you had to buy the paint off the fecking council so all the fecking houses matched!!! Sorry rant over! π€£ To be fair though, all the houses being the same colour does actually look amazing!!!! π€£
