The Story of Only Fools and Horses Ep5 "Behind the Scenes" REACTION!

Were some people truly concerned about Del Boy being a bad role model? Lol.

The Story of Only Fools and Horses Ep5 "Behind the Scenes" REACTION!

I think you’d enjoy goodnight sweetheart because, as they said in the clip, Nick Lyndhursts character can time travel between 1941 during the blitz and the present day. Funny, poignant and historical all in one. I really enjoyed it. Oh, and he pretends to write some Beatles songs.

Wayne Bennett

Good Night Sweet Heart is brilliant and so is Open All Hours with David and the late great Ronnie Barker of the Two Ronnies. Incidentally John Sullivan was a writer for the Two Ronnies before OFAH. Also Porridge is brilliant with Ronnie Barker and David is in it but only a small part. But I would like to see you react to Cunk On Britain, Earth, Shakespeare and Christmas.

There is a peter serafinowicz sketch where he works for a shopping channel and they have a ant infestation. Can't find it as a single clip tho, but its in this episode. https://youtu.be/0Qx3uhcvxpo?si=6t_pZ4LOg4vjUVse might help your current ant situation 😆😆 Also I vote for a pole of duncons choices

bdazzer85

Also Del Boy says he's not a detective inspector which is a callback to A Touch of Frost

Chevy

One of many comedy couples 😂 Julia Davis is married to Julian Barratt

Kieran B

Nicholas Lyndhurst. Not Nigel.

Billy Nomates

Still loving these KB. Yeah, those "complaints" from columnists in the haughty papers of the time were ridiculous, no one really took any notice of them though - it just made them look stupid, and out of touch. They're still doing that "moral outrage" shit today! It's cynical nonsense that they think will generate sales, or "clicks" to be more modern about it. Nothing changes... See people are recommending "Goodnight Sweetheart" - I never really got on with it myself, but I think you'd enjoy it. I certainly won't be moaning if you did pick that, because I'm not an asshat!

Phil Robinson

Actress who played Jen in The IT Crowd is married to Mental Mickeys real life brother too lol 😆

Luke Fisher

Since they mentioned 'Goodnight Sweetheart' you could do that next, to replace this. Or 'Open all hours'. Just like you replacing one Alan Partridge or Graham Linehan show with the next one in chronological order.

Joe Thornhill

Came here to say exactly this 😂

Gary Evans

Totally agree. Goodnight sweetheart is hugely underated

Jay Lo

Too scripted and predictable

Dan the man

The actor who played Mental Mickey left acting to work in a care home for the elderly because he wanted to give back to the community.

Sir David is an absolute hero of mine. I remember watching Open All Hours as a wee one back in the early eighties and he’s been in my life in one way or another ever since and has brought me endless amounts of laughs and tears. The absolutely epitome of ‘national treasure’..❤️❤️❤️

Dan the man

Considering how much of the show is engrained into British popular culture I can’t possibly see how it’s a “bad influence”. And if you judge it against what’s available now you can’t really complain about a show that’s 40 years old.

Dan the man

The Americans tried a remake of OFAH, think it was CBS. Dont think it got any farther than the pilot episode, which was utterly terrible. Even though Christopher Lloyd played the part of grandad..

Dan the man

The 1996 special "Time on our hands" drew in an audience of 24.3 million. At the time that was 42% of the UK population. Quite remarkable really.

Ho8566

Kind words Menty thank you.

Brian Moran

I loved your comments about the morons that just hate on stuff because it's popular. Whether it's Del being a bad role model (imagine that being a thing that sends your kid on the wrong path lol) or even yourself, with just curmudgeons being negative because they got precious if you missed a joke (awful people), there will always be asshats that want to be negative for the sake of it. I think I speak for everyone who has enjoyed your Only Fools journey (and many more shows) that these idiots are in the minority. We love you, King Boomer.

47:06-47:25 Those few lines are referencing a 90s sitcom that Nicholas Lyndhurst was in called ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’ where Nick’s character stumbles upon a portal to 1941. A brilliant show to react to after this if you don’t end up doing Rock & Chips or Green Green Grass.

Zachary Spooner-Barlow

4 series and 30 episodes. Maybe one for the future if you can track it down

Yaapsdad

If you want more John Sullivan stuff to watch then you could do a lot worse than Citizen Smith. It's an oldie but a goodie, about a failing revolutionary and his bunch of loser mates in 1970s London. Sitcom classic

Yaapsdad

The the link to goodnight sweetheart 🤣🤣🤣

Dango247

What you were saying at 41 minutes about critics, you're right to just ignore them. Most of us enjoy your reactions immensely. There is something really satisfying in watching someone laugh at a joke we already know. I don't actually know why, but it is

David Ridley

Exactly. 👍🏽

Martyn Dawson

Definitely. Also I think not one reactor has done Goodnight Sweetheart yet. It would be a first for Boomer

David Ridley

Only joking KB. Hope you get your ant infestation sorted out

Yaapsdad

Boomer can't sit still. He's got ants in his pants!

Yaapsdad

Yes KB, we all want a King and Queen reaction series when the time is right. Probably been suggested but Lee Mack's 'Not Going Out' series' would be a good couple's watch. Full of his quips.

Fordy7169

I’d watch rewatch with you and QB (the queen not a quarterback) - it works best when you’re both watching I think as it increases reactions, the same reason it can be funnier watching something with an audience as the energy builds

Kieran B

One of the episodes of John’s earlier sitcoms, Citizen Smith, was called Only Fools and Horses Gareth Gwenlan, the OFAH producer, referenced here regarding the name rejected Red Dwarf because it wasn’t a traditional sitcom - and Gwenlan became an insult in the setting - Lister calls Kryten a total Gwenlan in his first appearance 😂 You’ve finally heard the closing theme now 😂

Kieran B

Mental Mickey (Daniel Peacock) works in a care home now, top bloke. His dad (Trevor) and brother (Harry) were/are actors too - his dad was in the Vicar of Dibley (no, no, no, yes…) and his brother is in Toast of London with Matt Berry

Kieran B

Interesting that they rehearsed it so much, when I’ve done TV series (only as an extra) generally the rehearsals are kept to a minimum to keep the life and spontaneity of the scene. If I do self-tape auditions I tend not to do many takes for the same reason, I’ve done it before when I’ve nailed it and then just felt like I’ve overdone it and lost the spark and it doesn’t make sense any more - a bit like when you say a word too many times and it becomes nonsense. But then I’m not of OFAH calibre 😂

Kieran B

Another recommendation for Goodnight Sweetheart. It's a really decent show and such a different role for Nick Lyndhurst. I think you'd enjoy it, KB!

Ash Jeffries

Del: I'm not a Detective Inspector but... Of course, a reference to David Jason as Frost in "A Touch of Frost" 😃

Ash Jeffries

You'll love Goodnight Sweetheart. Get on it, man❤️👌🏼

Martyn Dawson

Looking forward to a poll. Don't worry about the eejits who can't take their choice not coming top. We've all gone through that at least once. It's no big deal, and it might get chosen another time. I agree with you re troops vs wars too. I really haven't supported any war Britain's been involved in, since perhaps 39-45. The troops don't get to choose who and where they're sent to fight.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Speaking of Chas & Dave, Eminems My Name Is actually sampled from a Chas & Dave song and made that iconic sound in Ems massive first big hit.

Steve Read

KB is guaranteed to love Goodnight Sweetheart.

Steve Read

Buster Merryfield (Uncle Albert) talking about forgetting his lines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpA1CdhINNE

Liam Tulley

Need to do goodnight sweetheart next

Michael Oliver

The reference when Albert is saying he wishes he could walk back to 1941 is a sitcom Nigel Lindhurst started in After Only Fools and Horses called Goodnight Sweetheart where his character walks back to 1941 and leads a double life in two time zones.
