The actress who played Siân James the character that became a politician is fantastic in the Netflix comedy drama 'Baby Reindeer' and the actor playing Gethin Roberts from North Wales is in the second series of 'Fleabag', both are great shows.

watched this movie what now must be 6-8 years ago now, maybe longer, so looking forward to this, remember loving it first time around and it being a very interesting story and heartwarming, as for the political angle, it was before my time being a 90's kid, but Thatcher is essentially a Tory hero, seen by staunch Conservative/ Tories as one of the best PM's in British history, then you have the other side of the spectrum who hated her with a passion, so much so that when she died I believe she got some kind of lower level state funeral (not 100% on that) and I can recall that being controversial and their being a lot of protests and people criticising this, even though she had passed. Essentially KB the Trump of British political history in the sense that one side loved her the other hated her with a passion.

Great movie, great reaction! I always tear up at the end. Dominic West’s character, Jonathan Blake, is STILL alive and living well (he’s now 75!). I’m a Mental Health Nurse and I used to work in a sexual health clinic which involved a lot of HIV treatment- it’s amazing how far we’ve come with treatment and prevention. It’s really changed lives when you think back to how it used to be. We helped gay men prevent HIV, but also could keep drug users safer, as well as men and women who’d had unwanted sex with people they didn’t know- already traumatising, but at least they didn’t have to worry about HIV anymore. It’s also interesting that you feel this movie doesn’t have a lot of information about Thatcher. As someone from the U.K., Thatcher is like the thread running through the whole thing! But I guess that’s a culture thing? I really don’t mind what political beliefs anyone here has- you’re all good eggs in the end. I think the film just gives one perspective of one group, and tells the story it set out to tell. No shame to those who think differently, we’re all just atoms on a rock in the end 🌍 Thanks again for watching, I’m glad you found it thought provoking, and it’s good to learn a little more about a significant time in U.K. history!

Carter was the first President I could remember but I think Reaganomics fucked the US as it did here. Trickle down economics sounds great but in reality it brought about the economic inequality we see now I both our countries. The idea that three men in the US have managed to remove and hoard as much money from the economy as the next 300 Million Americans and no one bats an eyelid seems crazy and broken. Most of Thatchers policies are now coming home to roost, she sold of our water, electric, gas, social housing, trains and now we have our seas and rivers filled with shite, our water is expensive and the infrastructure is failing, our trains are too expensive to the point its cheaper to fly to mainland Europe than travelling between our cities, we told that governments can't run railways yet our are run by the German, French and Spanish governments.

I haven’t seen this yet because I’ve had such a busy weekend, but I was so happy to get a notification about it! Beyond anything political, I just love that this is such a human film about two very unlikely groups of people supporting each other. I really don’t even care about Margaret Thatcher one way or the other, I was just being silly when I recommended 😅 Anyway thank you for taking the time to watch 😊

Beth

Nice one Beth for recommending such a great film

Just so the typical comments don't skew history... Margaret Thatcher was voted in as Prime Minister 3 successive times, 11 years in total. So, hated? Not so much.
