The Day Today S1 Ep5 "Magnificent" REACTION!

Comments

You will love The Thick of It!

Matthew Poole

Its good to see this, as I was only a kid in the 90's and was probably past my muthafucking bedtime =P

Industrialist2015ofUk

I always love the fact that 5 minutes after Paul Boateng's interview, some poor advisor had him come up to out of nowhere and shout WHO THE FUCK IS HERMAN THE TOSSER?!

Neal Murdoch

And don’t forget This Time with Alan Partridge which is the most recent AP show. Very underrated imo.

Jamie H

Haven't seen Depp V Heard on Netflix yet, but saw that you and Mrs B are in it! Excellent.

Dean Carter

"I could never forget that face, even without the moustache." ARE YOU SURE? ARE YOU SURE? ARE YOU SURE?

Z is for Zed

Really thought Boomer might have stopped the video right before the War soundtrack bit at the end, i was like saying to myself don’t stop the video 😬. It’s such a classic show, it’s a real shame it’s only 6 episodes.

James Ellison

The last segment is one of my favourite bits. I remember one of my friends’ dads had a VHS collection of the “best bits” of the Gulf War on his shelf so it’s not even far-fetched. Sadly the YT copyright gremlins will have a field day with all the music.

Regular Viewer Bunty Hoven

after the last episode you could do the six mini news

Anthony Brown

Wait, the credits said "With Jean Ainslie, Bill Bailey...". Where the hell was Bill Bailey in this episode???

Joe Thornhill

I really want to know if that actress could/does really race in rally conditions. At least sometimes, for a hobby.

Joe Thornhill

It is what they did after...

Wilx

The Thick of It. It is a natural follow on from TDT. Same writers, themes... please look into it. You'll not be disappointed.

Wilx

😅

its only right that u listen to this special 9/11 bit that isn't on the show, it was added for the DVD release. very funny. Also Alan Partridge mid morning matters... that would probably be the last Alan Partridge show u havent yet seen and is my personal favourite. https://youtu.be/1SPWgodul_E?si=CaI1XErAtYKP7JMq

Yes he was a real Labour politician Paul Boateng who did well not to corpse when Herman The Tosser was mentioned, as the interview went on I think it dawned on him he'd been set up.

Fordy7169

Alan Partridge is in the new Joker movie, turns out The Day Today is part of the DC universe

David L

I think that interview mentoning the phrase Herman the tosser was a real set up interview with a minister that didn't know it was a spoof, there's loads of those in brass eye.

R Lawrence

Yes, when the show has footage with politicians, they are real politicians 99% of the time! A couple of them were tricked into doing real interviews with The Day Today team, but most of it is news footage that they repurposed for the show.

Ash X

Also featured the Brummy clown guy who interrupts the election debate on Knowing Me, Knowing You, and Alan's old headmaster "Smelly Raphael"!

Ash X

This is a parody of the the 24/7 TV coverage of the first Iraq War on CNN and Sky News, where war became a kind of entertainment and news organisations spent millions on getting reporters on the front line or embedded with military units.

Ash X

The whole war segment really hit home at the time as the first Iraq war was still fresh in the memory and was really the first heavily televised war with reporters becoming household names. Heavy TV coverage of war is normal now but at the time there were definitely those questioning the morality of watching missiles strike targets on the news.

David Mannion

The name Colatterlie Sisters kept randomly popping into my head during the week, hadn’t a clue where that came from until today. 😃

Gary Tamblyn

Of all the requests I've seen, this one is baffling. It was bloody awful - outside of Ali G and Ricky, who only turn up sporadically, what else is there to like?

Phil Robinson

They don't play by our rules. 😅

You should definitely do Brass Eye next as it's very similar and has all the same people in it. It's just news documentary show format rather than a pure news bulletin format

Steve King

The first old woman in the war story was also in an episode of knowing me knowing you playing the racist former Olympian.

Adam Druett

And also, the graphics were made by a team who supply real graphics for news programmes. They were basically told to do the same but worse.

Nick

A lot of the footage is re-used news reports, so yes, most of the official-looking people are real politicians. Also, some of the interviews in this eposide are with real people who assumed they were being interviewed about real subjects on a real current affairs programme. Brass Eye takes the whole thing even further.

Nick

I do enjoy these reactions just as much as the episodes themselves.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Four ;)

Manly Stump

What's Chris Morris' beef with Michael Portillo?

Jon

The Slemmel's disease part is indeed real politicians. Lady Trumpington was a very funny woman - she stuck two fingers up to a Lord in the House of Lords when the man commented on her age. She also appeared at least once on Have I Got News For You and was very bawdy for a woman in her nineties. The red briefcase is a traditional despatch box used by the government and monarchy for sending ministerial papers etc. The Chancellor will hold one up when announcing a budget. It's one of our mad traditions we just can't let go of.

Domlaaa

There is no Herman The Tosser

John Snashall

Pls make sure you do the 9/11 special one. Absolute genius

makadeni123

Should watch the 11 o'clock show. It gave birth to Ali g and Ricky Gervais

Dave Jones

Those old ladies were also in knowing me knowing you. They were the Olympic relay runners. 😀

Tim Phillipson

He also directed 3 lions
