🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Classic episode guest starring both Arthur Dent and Doctor Who.

Neal Murdoch

This season was less funny than I remembered. I think when Hugh Laurie joins it goes to another level, and Baldrick gets funnier.

Julian T

Yes, the former Doctor was Captain Rum, and the first sailor (Sir Walter Raleigh) was played by Simon Jones, otherwise known as Arthur Dent to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy fans

SimonR

The Irish used to have a fleet made out of paper mache.

I've seen a couple in the wild, I wild camp a lot and live next to a large expanse of heathland which is their natural habitat, I also get at least 2 slow worms a year in my compost heap, which look like snakes but are legless lizards, always makes me jump when I find one though! 🤣

Mark Jones

7:44 Yep, that's Queen Boomers dreams, alright. Random as fuck. Much like mine (if I could remember any of them).

Joe Thornhill

Wait, you mean The Doctor/narrator of Little Britain Tom Baker? Oh, I thought you were talking about the first sailor that waltzed in.

Joe Thornhill

well it's not like there's a lack of water if things go tits up.

Trivia for this episode: the offscreen "child" who gets shot by Blackadder with a bow and arrow after chanting "sourpuss, grumpy-face" is actually voiced by Miranda Richardson. And weirdly, though I've always considered Tom Baker's performance as Redbeard Rum to be absolutely iconic Blackadder stuff (in the same larger-than-life vein of Rik Mayall's Lord Flashheart and Brian Blessed's King Richard), Baker himself apparently detests it and finds it cringey. Whether that's just self-deprecating humour on his part, I don't know, but he's also said that he had the producer John Lloyd in one ear telling him to ham it right up, and a neurotic Rowan Atkinson in the other telling him to tone it down because he didn't want to be upstaged (something Atkinson is alleged to have said to every guest star). The central trio of Blackadder, Baldrick and Percy are still a work in progress at this point; while the first two have evolved into their final form, Tim McInnerny's Percy gets replaced in the final two series with Hugh Laurie's George, who's the perfect comic foil for Blackadder as a posher, more exploitable upgrade on Percy. And when they get McInnerny back in the final series as the sycophantic Captain Darling, with Stephen Fry as a more Wodehousian version of Melchitt, it's pure perfection.

Needs must. When you think about it, ships had lots of fire risks; gunpowder, torches, etc. That's why discipline was so rigid.

If you add two beans to two more beans, what do you have? A very small casserole

Isn't it a bit stupid having an oven on a 15th century wooden boat.

Gary Mcatear

They were perhaps exaggerating for amusement's sake, but there is some truth in it; the real Elizabeth was very changeable, prone to jealousy and easily flattered, but she was also charming and witty (even foreign diginitaries, with no reason to creep to her, said this was her best feature), which this version does lack. Honestly even if the movies themselves are inaccurate in lots of ways, the Cate Blanchett portrayal of Elizabeth is pretty spot on. She was charming, witty, intelligent, but could be petty, bad tempered and spiteful.

ALW

Man of taste and refinement.

ALW

I wonder if he'll spot a certain Indiana Jones villain next episode...the makeup is very good so I'd be surprised if so.

ALW

I can't wait for S3! Prince Regent is my absolute favourite character 😂

Lz Bristol

Holy fuck, I forgot Tom Baker was in this, such a legendary actor.

Geraint Harrison

I remember hearing one historian say that this depiction of Queen Elizabeth 1 was the most accurate they'd ever seen, they said all other depictions were too serious and this is more like what she was actually said to be like in real life.

Mark Jones

Queenie was a reason I had so many odd socks as a teenager.

Dan Jaypii

Queenie played an amazing part

Could it be, i hold in my hand...a nugget... of purest.....green! You have it all to come and i am so jealous!

Geoffrey Searby

😅👍

Jason Scade

Captain Red Beard Rum, a well respected actor, Tom Baker. Known for narrating “little Britain, but mostly as the fourth Doctor, Doctor Who

Mike Doel

Don’t know if you’ve noticed but Queenie is Miranda Richardson is also Rita Skita from Harry Potter. The news reporter

Even the costumes and sets were left over from other productions I think! The budget for this series was absolutely minuscule. That was the only way they could get a second series greenlit after they spent loads on series 1 and it underperformed

Eleanor Elliott

For me this only gets better and better.

Dave Martin

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but here's a little fun fact for you : The adder is the only venemous snake native to the UK. Black ones are pretty rare though :)
