Blackadder S2 Ep2 "Head" REACTION!

Baldric has become quite the idiot lol.

Blackadder S2 Ep2 "Head" REACTION!

Comments

Nice nod to the 1st series in the song at the end. "His Great-Grandfather was king, although for only 30 seconds"

Andrew Downey

The two staff being called Ploppy i think is the perfect vignette of post-modern, or alternative comedy in sitcom. I will never not find this hilarious.

BoSquiddly

I like potato ๐Ÿ˜†

Adam Senior

Not really.

Grady Parsons

You're right. It is quite a weak episode, with some obvious jokes. Watchable but doesn't fully deliver.

Ash X

The best episode of this series is Beer. Itโ€™s brilliant

Erica

Pretty much. Frankly, if you're supporting a reaction channel, you should probably accept that some stuff just isn't going to appeal to you sometimes. I can't stand Fresh Meat, gangster movies or shows like Brassic, Misfits or Car Share, so I'd never be watching those. But right now I have Blackadder, Black Books and Red Dwarf so I think three reactions out of the week is enough for me to enjoy. Wouldn't say no to Life's Too Short though!

Technically the show suggestions thread is already a poll. If someone is adding them up. I donโ€™t like comments like โ€œI hate Jack Whitehallโ€ though. itโ€™s quite immature and influenced him over the first couple episodes. I canโ€™t imagine avoiding a fictional show based on hating one of the actors, it just comes across as silly.

So in summary yeah let KB choose .โ˜บ

@emu cat just because they are the loudest doesn't make them the majority- No but its really unpleasant and stressful. To break the 4th wall somewhat I'd think I might have the most influence on the channel. I was asked what do you think I should watch?" I said comedy Spinal Tap, Gangsta Long good Friday - going of what I thought KB would like and what had been mentioned... I then said you will have to do the Italian job sooner or later -its been mentioned loads He watched Italian Job... Good film but Im no die hard fan. Its what was asked for and thats the one he choose to watch - Patreon wanted it. Spinal Tap - good amount of requests but a selfish ask and did it later.. LGF - Heavily asked for hadnt seen it since I was a kid but was Easter weekend... Seemed fitting! KB will watch what he chooses out of how many times he has seen a suggestion, and what kind of film/show he wants to watch ... plenty have taken me by surprise and the in fighting is seriously not worth the stress - If patreon was a Utopia then you wouldnt have needed to say anything. I am utterly not having a go by any stretch but explaining what I know to been the reasons. I have no sway cause I hate Jack Whitehall... and he is reacting to Fresh Meat...๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Yeah I totally get why he wouldn't do another poll considering the very vocal minority that went off on one over the Brassic, Misfits & Fresh meat poll. The last poll was made specifically to add a modern show into the rotation, after The Inbetweeners, Friday night dinner, Peep show, Plebs had all ended, and 10-20 people LOST THEIR MINDS over the idea of a modern show being reacted to before the likes of Blackadder, Open all hours or Porridge etc... My favourite UK comedy is OFAH. I also love other old school classics such as Red dwarf & Fawlty Towers. Then there are modern shows like Brassic, Misfits, Plebs & The Inbetweeners which are also great. Being young or being old doesn't mean you can ONLY like shows from one era, and it does my nut in when some older folk hate on new shows, and some young people hate on anything made before the 21st century. Good is good, it doesn't matter when it was made. Going off the shows I've seen suggested most, my idea of a reasonable poll would look something like this, and then have KB choose what he'd want to watch from the top 3 voted for: Brassic Misfits White gold Peter Kays Car share Green Wing Outnumbered Gavin & Stacey Open all hours Allo' Allo' Porridge

ryung246

Definitely not... KB has much more taste and a sense for variety than voters do in other channels and is one of the main reasons I love this Patreon channel the most... I just trust KB as a dictator more than I do the democratic membership vote... Votes cause friction and when a Patreon channel is dominated by a certain demographic (quite often younger audiences or students or ex-students), then you get the same shows over and over again and there's no variety!... Certain shows get hyped with vote comments as well, which usually end up being disappointing.

We still quote...the long winter nights must just fly by...when someone tells us something dull they've done As others have said ..the song at the end is different every episode

just because they are the loudest doesn't make them the majority

Fry may well have said so too, but (having now looked it up) I was specifically thinking of Tracy Borman on episode 39 of The Rest Is History podcast. Her exact remark: "Miranda Richardson's Blackadder portrayal [is the best]; she absolutely nails it in terms of Elizabeth's fickle behaviour, unpredictability, vanity, but you love her anyway." Borman does then go on to praise Blanchett's performances purely for the quality of her acting, but stresses that the depiction of Elizabeth's character isn't as accurate.

Ian Richards

I think you saw Stephen Fry saying that on the documentary. He cited all the wonderful actresses that have depicted Queen Elizabeth I over the years, Bette Davis, Cate Blanchett, Judith Dench, Glenda Jackson etc and then said that none of them have ever come close to topping Miranda Richardson in this.

Rob Walters

I've said it on previous threads, but whether or not Curtis & Elton were consciously influenced by Fawlty Towers, Blackadder & Baldrick's relationship from Series 2 on is pure Basil & Manuel. You can see the parallel clearly for the first time in this episode, beginning with the bean-counting at the start and hitting its stride with the face-slap at 15:44. Regarding Miranda Richardson's performance as Elizabeth, for a long time I thought she was just riffing on Lewis Carroll's infamous Queen of Hearts (who Richardson would end up playing in 1999, having had plenty of practice at the old "off with his head!" routine), but I was listening to a discussion with a Tudor historian last year who declared this the best onscreen portrayal of Elizabeth they've ever seen. I guess Cate Blanchett is entitled to feel a bit miffed about that, but Good Queen Bess really did have a petulant streak a mile wide, and even though it's played for laughs here, it captures something about her that more flattering depictions gloss over.

Ian Richards

I've seen hardcore heated arguments kick off from patreon polls, so I think the channel should stay as it is. Some of us do get into an occasional barney in this group, but nothing compared to that! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Jay

Yeah, the first couple of episodes aren't the best, and I'm saying this as a massive fan of Blackadder. I still enjoy them because they have the brilliant set up and pay off associated with Blackadder, but there's not so many laugh out loud moments (apart from Lord Flashheart) as the later episodes. I've also noticed from watching other reactions, that most Americans don't really warm to Blackadder's sarcastic line delivery as much, which is something we absolutely loved in the UK. Similar to American audiences not really getting on with Basil Fawlty for similar reasons. There's definitely a cultural divide in that respect, but I do think there's enough happening in the later episodes that you'll really enjoy.

Jay

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but the minstrel's song during the end credits is different every episode

David Lyons

Jason Scade

some do, most appreciate being asked in the occasional poll, then at least we feel we're included. When a channel is influenced by the same favourite go-to people, it starts to show, I've seen a few hit their ceiling that way.

emu cat

Every time I do a poll people just shit on it so whatโ€™s the point lol.

Brian Moran

And they made Percy's character a lot funnier. He was a bit of a third wheel in the first series.

Jay

Exchanging the character traits between Blackadder and Baldrick was probably what saved the series and gets better as the series continues and into series 3 and 4.

Nix001

You should do some polls so us guys can vote on what you watch next

Jordan Dempster

I always felt this episode was the weakest of this series personally, funny as it is.
