When you see the barmaid pour the beer she is just pouring it from a bottle because they are just using bottles and cans instead of having a brewery to supply the booze.

The 1st series is much more focused on one-off incidents whereas the 2nd series has more of an over-arching plot. I can totally see preferring the 1st, but I think if they'd tried to do another series with the same structure it would have felt very repetitive. There's only so many theme nights you can watch a club put on.

Something else that comes up sometimes, unemployment benefit is informally known as “the dole”, or job seekers allowance or universal credit. A GIRO was a physical cheque you received for your welfare and you used to go and ‘cash it’ every week or two when you received it to get your money. Some people would spend it really quickly. The specific story is that the guy has been on benefits so long and no one will take him on that the DSS are going to pay his wages just to get someone to take him and get some experience and hopefully eventually give him a paid job. He will still only get his dole instead of being paid as a member of staff.

Dialogue and jokes not as good. First episode was a really weak filler episode and last two have been OK but not brilliant imo.

Always watch shows until the screen goes black. The Phoenix Nights end audition scenes have the credits playing over them so the comedy plays to the very end. No time-wasting outro music played over a plain background. Good on ya for getting this show's humour, you've truly been Anglified.
