TOP GEAR SPECIAL Patagonia (Part 2) REACTION!

CRAZY!

TOP GEAR SPECIAL Patagonia (Part 2) REACTION!

Comments

Mate, I discussed this a year ago. Not going to get back into it. 😂

Jay

To suggest the number plate is intentional is frankly just ridiculous. Tv producers are dumb enough to make an insensitive joke like this, but they aren’t smart enough to cover it up. After all these years there’s 0 evidence it was intentional. Even if it was somehow being covered up there isn’t even a SINGLE discrepancy in the cars paper work and history. The MOTs all line up with the car in the show so it’s not a case of swapped plates from similar models as I’ve seen u speculate in other comments

Yeeticus

So Jeremy lied about his dying farther? If you think that you have no idea what you are talking about. There 2 was 2 of that car model in the uk, and that was the only one they could end up getting. Look into it further

Adam

It’s people like this who made the mistake of thinking The Falkland Islands were theirs in the first place. Just thugs

Riki Andrews

The plate was in no way intentional. It had came with the car in 1991. The first letter, H, means it was registered in 1990-91. The four digits that followed were completely randomized. And the last two letters - KL - mean that the car was registered in the DVLA office in Maidstone. The UK plate system was changed after 2001 but if you look at any car registered before 2001 and after 1983 you will notice that their number plate follows the exact same layout and will appear just as random.

Camro

I just read your link, and it all adds up, I always assumed it was just Jeremy's sense of humor but I stand corrected. It's a shame their SAT-PHONE couldn't get hold of the Chilean Embassy because they would have sent the army to the border.

Danny Heywood

The number plate was absolutely not intentional. Clarkson said in the first part that he chose the car because the 928 holds a special place in his heart. There were only two 928 GTs for sale at the time, one of which is what he ended up with, that had the number plate since it's original registration. For more info someone on reddit posted excerpts from Richard Porter's book, about his time writing for Top Gear, and where he goes into more detail about the whole event. https://www.reddit.com/r/thegrandtour/comments/t7fscu/comment/hzjmnv7/ Obviously it is just the account of one of the people who could be making excuses, but a lot of the claims line up with verifiable information, so I'm inclined to believe him.

Relyx

This was the final Top Gear Christmas special of the Clarkson-Hammond-May era and coincidentally they have just finished filming their final Grand Tour special.😞

Mark Williamson

Planning on it

Chris Fulcher

No problem there’s been a few deleted messages that we’ve had nothing to do with recently 🤷🏻‍♂️nothing to get stressed over at the end of the day… And smooth brain… someone watches Simon Whistler lol

Craig McCulloch

No apologies necessary Craig, and I'm glad you let me explain.

Jay

Okay, I apologise for my enquiries but I did say the words it looks like he’s arguing with a ghost … I am sorry that that happened on King boomers Patreon we endorse Muppet ism but not been anything ‘else’ …and the block bit did confuse me as only me and kb can and we hadn’t

Craig McCulloch

Assuming you are referring to me Craig. I had a discussion with another patron earlier on, who got a bit nasty in his responses. He's subsequently deleted his OP, which I assume was because he knew it was rather nasty, and then blocked me. I understand that my comments are still readable, but I am unable to see or delete them, probably due to the block. Hope that explains why it looks like I'm arguing with myself like a lunatic! 😄

Jay

Me? For my argument with the other guy earlier?

Jay

He who thinks muscle cars can rally an ice stage easily, is truly a muppet.

Geraint Harrison

You gotta send him some of the challenges from the series if Brian is interested!

Geraint Harrison

Blocking you jay who and what are you on about??

Craig McCulloch

Very odd to think that anyone who responds to your arguments is "stalking", but if that gets you excited then go for it. Disagreeing with your opinion is not rude or nasty, and neither is you disagreeing with me. What you've decided to do it attack me on a personal level, with assumptions about my IQ. And now you're following it up with accusations of hypocrisy and that I'm playing the "victim card". That is nasty and unnecessarily combative. I'll be happy for you to block me if you wish, it's probably for the best. At least you'll be able to carry on liking up your own comments, to supplement the block. 😄

Jay

Actually I was born way before Jay from Inbetweeners, thanks. He took my name dammit. As for your rather nasty response, I can only say one thing. It's easy to google a site where you can find a car based on a numberplate, so it's hardly in the realms of "conspiracy" as you so put it. If I can do it within 2 minutes, then I'm sure a dedicated team of television researchers can do the same. Also it's well within the realms of possibility that they can choose that car with that numberplate and buy other cars with similar specs, to fulfill the car type criteria of the programme. What you're assuming is I'm arguing that they can make the numberplate and add it to the car, which I as never implying. Anyway, I was arguing in a respectful manner and I'm genuinely alright with anyone telling me i'm wrong on certain things (which I can be, like everyone else), whereas you have decided to respond to everyone who disagrees as "smooth brained" or attack my I.Q. like some nasty toxic Youtube commenter. Judging by previous negative comments you've made with regards to other people's choices on this forum, you seem to have a rather toxic superiority complex over anyone that disagrees with your views or choices.

Jay

it's all good, I was young at the time and didn't know him well. Just remember hearing it on the news when I was around 13 and Mum getting a phone call from her Sister to say what had happened.

Peter Andrews

I dont want to be 'that' guy but your uncles brother is still your uncle or possibly your dad....?

Craig McCulloch

Just to add, the moment the term "sheeple" is used in an argument, all credibility is lost! 😄

Jay

The only "smooth brains" here are the ones that actually believe such a glaring coincidence is accidental, for a show that's always pulled pranks like that. It's not difficult for television producers with years of experience into research on cars to find and match up a number plate that relates to any topic. No doubt the plates are original to that car, but it's easy to pick that car and then choose the other cars based around the specs. Just common sense. As for James May's denial, it's not a stretch for him to say a bit of B.S. to avoid both an international diplomatic incident, and to avoid him and others losing their jobs.

Jay

glad enjoyed the special, king please read the PM sent about next cheers bro!!!

Chris Fulcher

the plate may have been available if the original car the plate was on was scrapped by then, if it ever was on a car

Doug

Oh my Christ! I have been waiting almost forever for this one lol haha

Tom Hooper

BigChanChan

You can go and look at that cars entire MOT history, it’s had that plate since new. Apart from 2004-2007 where a private reg was put on the car. Getting that car was a 50:50 in context.

Joe Wilson

That's a good picture

Brian Moran

Clarkson and May are war history buffs. It’s not like May to not notice such a coincidence so I believe it was intentional!

Jason

Unfortunately there was a lot of lives lost. But then Britain had to protect the rights of the falklanders will to remain British and protect its sovereignty. Argentina has no legitimate claim over the islands. They just think its automatically theirs as its off their coast. You could say the same to so many other countries laying claim to islands that are close to them. I love how Argentina tries to justify its claim by showing diagrams of the ocean plate to say how the islands are apart of Argentina main land. 😄

Tim Phillipson

I have so much respect for you clocking the music from Road to Perdition. One of my favourite films and criminally overlooked! Such a beautiful performance from Paul Newman too. Newman, Hanks, Craig, and Law 🫡

Jason

Those classic nikes would be worth a fortune now

Tim Phillipson

Everyone says the number plate is intentional. I'm not so sure, it is Clarkson's sort of humour but the cars number plate is genuine, free to lookup. It isn't the type of car clarkson would normally choose so maybe he chose it for that reason. However, if you watch the first episode as soon as they saw people moaning the number plate was removed. Ordinarily they ignore that sort of thing but they didn't this time and I'm fairly confident it's because the falklands was a pointless war and they know it and in this case didn't want to be insensitive. Regardless of it being intentional, it was obviously a load of kids going out to do something they know they won't get in trouble for.

Brendan

Yep I agree. It would've caused an international incident so the government covered up for them and said the license plate was always with the car.

SP

The worst thing about the whole war is that the Argentinian government sent young conscripts to die over a crappy island. As James May mentioned late in the episode, the Argentinians generally are very friendly towards Brits (and everyone else), it was just a bunch of nationalists that caused the commotion. Although as Tim has mentioned, the number plate was definitely intentional which was in poor taste, so the anger was understandable to a point. To suggest it was coincidental is pretty stupid, as was Top Gear denying it was deliberate. No one came out of this whole episode in the right.

Jay

The number plate was intentional. It has to be! Knowing Clarkson 😄 🤣 it's too much of a coincidence for it not to of been planned but because it caused such a shit stir they denied everything hahahaha 😆

Tim Phillipson

https://www.paradata.org.uk/media/12226 This was my Uncles brother on his way to the Falklands war. He was later killed by the IRA from an IED while on patrol 😔

Peter Andrews

Can’t wait to watch this later!!!
