Back in business! Maybe...

Phoenix Nights S2 Ep1 REACTION!

Jim Bowen also helped in the translation of the oldest known joke-book by testing the material with an audience to make sure the translation got the humour as well as the literal meanings.

Martin Clarkson

YO props for pronouncing "twAt" correctly!!one of the few Americans I've seen not to pronounce it "twOt"(which is a totally different, completely unoffensive wordπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‘)πŸ˜±πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’œ

Adam Hale

We have 2 main courts in the UK a magistrates which deal with everything from divorce (nothing more than a meeting room usually) to low level crimes or felonies as you guys call them. Such as anti social behaviour, speeding fines etc. More serious crimes go to the Crown Court where there are Barristers which are in addition to a solicitor or lawyer as you call them (one prosecuting and one defending) they wear the wigs and so do some Judges. There is quite a serious reason to them and its far from a gimmick.

DJ RJ

he caught on to Den Perry's game quick, Ironside dosn't miss a beat

452b

These are magistrates, no wigs. We have crown court for more serious crimes. That's where they wear the wigs.

Mike Currie

Lol...seeing an American react to spit the dog...think Bob And Spit are refranced in both series

Paul Liversage

8:23 better warm than well done. Lol, if you don't know the reason den Perry says to Brian Potter " just nip inside brian see if my jacket potato is done , better warm than well done" is because we british sometimes cook Jacket Potatoes in the oven and just like Brian's Pheonix club is burnt a jacket potatoe can also get burnt in the oven so den perry is basically rubbing it in Brian's face that the Pheonix club his burnt kind of like a jacket potato can be.

Will

I'm sure Queen Boomer would enjoy this show...if she hasn't seen it already.

Robert Trainer

We have 3 courts magistrates for lower crimes, crown court for serious crimes and civil court. Crown court wear the wigs.

HD

Jackie? who's jackie 🀣

Tim Salt (Tim Salt Writes)

I've seen it blurred elsewhere. Not sure why. We know Peter didn't mind having a dig at someone with the Keith Lard thing, my guess is it was someones actual phone number and people called it. what else could it be? ... update, just looked it up. Yep, (apparently) he was very unprofessional and put actors phone numbers in there. I say apparently because I read it on a forum, not from Peters lips

Chevy

I met them in a Pantomime here in the early 80s. They were in Babes in the Woods. Why am I saying them for? It was only Bob with a puppet.

Mouse

GARLIC BREAD!?!!? is a reference to probably Peter's most famous joke, worth reacting for Youtube KB

Matt

Tony Christie originally, they did it in this show, then Peter Kay did it for like Comic Relief or something and they released it as a single (for charity i believe)

Matt

Actually, was the name in Brian's black book blurred out originally, for mystery or did KB have to blur it out? If so, what did it say?

Joe Thornhill

Ok, Is Max and Paddy singing 'Amarillo' meta, or did someone else write/sing it before this and that music video came out after this? Either way, nice touch.

Joe Thornhill

Den Perry - "Hey Brian just nip inside see if my jacket potato is done" lol , love that scene and the dog Puppet spitting at that woman lol.

Will

'Spit' the dog. I loved him lol

John Hastie

Yeah he was. Mean more that it came from here where I picked it up from than anywhere else.

Gem Lou

Bart Simpson was saying it in the early 90s :P

David Lyons

I feel the same way when I see max and paddy driving down Halliwell Road πŸ˜‚ Ran a shop on there for 10 years

Gary Evans

Nowt wrong with a good corn beef hash!

Gary Evans

A lot of stuff was better back then but there was also a lot of stuff like this example, which you just can't work out now why they were famous lol.

BigChanChan

In memory of Alan is a reference to a coronation street (soap opera) bad guy called Alan Bradley from decades ago, who died in the show by being hit by a tram in that spot. The muppet with the wig is played by Jim Bowen, a comedian and was famous as the host of bullseye. His outtakes from this episode are on YouTube and worth watching. Ironside is a famous old tv show, and I think it’s from America. A disabled lawyer I think.

John

🀣🀣

Jason Scade

I grew up in Jim Bowen's old house, when Bullseye came on the lights flickered.

emu cat

Laughing at KB's bemused reaction to the appearance of Bob Carolgees and Spit the Dog - another little insight into classic British entertainment!

Henry Graham

Blackpool , on the coast of north-west England , is the coastal resort featured in this episode. Traditionally , in the past , the place to go for your summer holidays, especially if you were working class and living in or near big industrial cities such as Liverpool and Manchester. Also very popular with Glaswegians. Nowadays perhaps better known for a place to go for hen and stag weekends. Apparently a bit run down these days, it still has quite a bit to offer: a sandy beach, Blackpool Tower - complete with famous ballroom, the Pleasure Beach Fairground, the trams, and the Blackpool Illuminations along the seafront each autumn.

South Coast Rich

The character with the wig - played by the late great comedian Jim Bowen. Probably best known for the popular TV darts based quiz: Bullseye ! "Great, smashing, super" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

South Coast Rich

Bob Carolgees and Spit the Dog !πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

South Coast Rich

Bullseye was my Sunday itv king lol

Karen bye

Muppet is a TV legend bully , look it up xxx

Karen bye

I’m a very sad person and whenever I change the bins I sing Jerry’s black bin bag song .

Erica

Spit the dog was a stand up In the 80s lol 🀣🀣

Karen bye

That the high court lol Muppet

Karen bye

Yeah, as mentioned above - Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere is a brilliant spinoff.

Stefan

King boomer! The meat van guy... please do a reaction to Tom stade meat van man. An American comedian in the UK who is hilarious. πŸ˜€ you'll love the way he describes the meat van in the uk markets.

Tim Phillipson

The first song Max & Paddy were singing in the van was 'I could be so good for you' which was the theme song for the classic comedy drama 'Minder', back in the 80's the two biggest shows were Minder on ITV with Arthur Daley a ducking and diving con man and on BBC Only Fools with Del Boy. I hope one day you get round to doing this show too.

Jason Bonner

It's sort of paddy's fault that the club burnt down. If you notice, he threw away the hair spray thing in the same bin

HG

Wigs are worn in a crown court not magistrates courts. Although in magistrates courts you will normally get more than 1 magistrate judge. Sometimes 3. And they are all volunteers. In a crown court you'll get 1 judge and a jury.

Tim Phillipson

That's my local Asda Jerry is singing in! Astley Bridge. I'm beaming with pride as I write this 😁

Martin N

Gets better and better this series, absolutely love it

Mackem

Ironside is a running joke, as it refers to the American tv show β€˜ironside’ where the lead is in a wheelchair, its the same with a lot of hidden jokes like β€˜sweet truck haul’ (say that 7 times drunk,) on the lorry cab in the first episode and in this new series! Btw the bloopers on the dvd extra with Jim Bowen, the hotel owner with the syrup are hilarious!

Andi Main

"He was just about to get to the vinegar strokes and his mobile phone went off.... Can I call you back Mum?" 🀣. That bit always makes me laugh. A lot of subtle or regional humour that KB missed in this episode, understandably.

Jay

In memory of Alan was reference to an old soap opera 'shock' death where the character was hit by a tram.

Kristopher Barton

Bob Carolgees and Spit the Dog, a very popular act back n the day. This was a magistrates court where relatively minor legal infractions are addressed.

Mark Williamson

My favourite episode of the whole series is the next episode. Can't wait!

Mr Matthews

And the flowers "in memory of Alan" were an injoke to the death of Alan Bradley, a TV soap character from coronation street who got hit by a tram 🀣🀣

Jaxon's Jerseys

"Muppet with a wig" how dare you KB, that is legendary Jim Bowen, check out the gameshow Bullseye

Jaxon's Jerseys

Get Bent... yet another term I use weekly if not more.. almost forgot it came from here!

Gem Lou

Spit the dog and Bob Carolgies (spelling) was a kids entertainer way back when. It's one of the little subtle jokes they throw in there. As if he'd be hosting a jerry springer-type show. Brilliant. Kenny Senior is my favourite character. Absolute bullshitter. Like Jat from the Inbetweeners, but a little sadder.

Kristopher Barton

That's correct is normally only the high court

Rob Green

I think wigs are worn in a crown court. This is a magistrates court

Simon Barker

I could be wrong (please someone correct me if so) but I believe in the lower courts (for example magistrates / county courts) they don't typically wear the court wigs, or at-least it's at their discretion. You generally only see them wearing that attire in the higher courts (crown / supreme courts) as I understand it

Will Lynch

Loving the phoenix nights. Max and paddy road to nowhere was great after this to
