Red Dwarf S7 Ep4 "Duct Soup" REACTION!

Cat thinks Lister is a sissy.

Red Dwarf S7 Ep4 "Duct Soup" REACTION!

That's what you call a bottle episode. More kinda like a chamber play than a usual episode. It's okay imo. A lot of people just don't like bottle episodes. the fly episode of Breaking Bad springs to mind but I love that one.

RA Keogh

Weakest episode right next to the Back to Earth episodes.

RetroRic

Worst...episode..ever

Paul Liversage

It does..but agree dislike series 7

I gave up on Red Dwarf after this episode when it first aired, it just felt too different without Rimmer. The change from practical effects and models to early cheap tv budget cgi ruined a lot of the charm for me, even though the sets still look good. Plus Kryton crying wasn’t funny but more irritating and cringey. Maybe it gets better again i don’t know

James Ellison

Probably the 2nd worst episode of all after the season 9 abortion.

Neal Murdoch

This was supposed to be a Cat-centric episode called "Identity Within" but budget restrictions meant it couldn't be made so Duct Soup was made in its place. It's not the greatest episode but its far from unwatchable (for me, anyway). There's a certain part of the next episode which I'm looking forward to seeing you react to.

MarBL Wrexbro

Yeah this was one of the weaker points i agree still some funny lines

Bent bob 😆

Yeah, this was the worst episode of Red Dwarf for me, by a country mile. It is probably the episode that gives the season a poor name. I idolised Lister growing up, and he was my favourite character, but when rimmer isn't here it just feels a bit empty.

Sean O'Donnell

Your right bro, just not the same without rimsy

ezza

A low point episode in an otherwise decent series I always thought. It had a good concept, being stuck somewhere and working towards a common goal, but it just wasn't carried well enough despite having some fun moments. The pipes stuff went on way too long. The first two episodes are the best ones, but the rest of the series can only be better than Duct Soup, so something to look forward to :)

LyingSecret

Season 8 is much better, goes back to the season 4-6 humour.

Thankfully Rimmer isn't gone too long, and even then he may pop up just enough to bring some joy, and the last parts of this season actually have quite a cool story line to distract you. But ultimately they should have just postponed filming this series until Chris Barrie had time in his schedule. Rimmer and Lister ARE Red Dwarf. Sure the other chars add their own unique elements but they are additions to the main power duo.

I think for me the problem with Clare Grogan is that she would have been able to give as good as she got; whereas this Kochanski is a more obvious replacement for Rimmer. I like her a lot, but I respect that she is, at best, divisive.

ALW

Some of the Dave episodes felt closer to what came before this rough patch, but it's arguable whether they're good enough to justify what you have to get through first...

Z is for Zed

Probably the worst episode ever made of RD

Chris Garratt

KB, if you miss Rimmer, just hang tight. He does return - in a weird kind of way - I think in either the next episode or the one after. And I won't ruin it, but it's a really funny storyline. And he does fully come back in future seasons as well.

Oliver

I think the Back to Earth special killed it completely for me. That was woeful.

Jay

8's not so bad, though the other two I can definetly understand the dislike for😀

Brodie Vickers

I've heard it does pick up. Unfortunately my love for Red Dwarf was cemented in the era of the first few series. Even if the show has picked up since, the dip in quality during those series pretty much lost it for me. I wish they'd just ended it on a high note, instead of continuing.

Jay

Probably the worst episode overall

Mike Doel

Season X does pick up again, just 7, 8 & 9 are in the way.

Martin Nercessian

I think fans found it distasteful that the role of Kochanski was recast, because the producers felt that the original actress Clare Grogan was too old. Not only that, Clare Grogan has/had far more personality and comedic acting ability than the actress they went with. I think had they kept Grogan on Series 7 would have done a lot better, as she was well known at the time. Personally I don't think it was just the inclusion of Kochanski that killed this series (and sent Red Dwarf on a downward spiral). I think that the loss of one of the main co-writers really knocked the comedy down a peg or two. The great Sci Fi ideas are there, but the jokes tend to be a repeat of earlier stuff. Obviously Rimmer being absent was also a big problem, as the heart of Red Dwarf is essentially the relationship between Rimmer and Lister. There's some great episodes coming up, but "classic" Red Dwarf pretty much ended on Series 6.

Jay

I miss Rimmer too!

Andrew Powell

Probably the weakest episode of this series, so dislike it to your heart's content😄The rest are pretty good though, think you'll definetly enjoy next episode👍

Brodie Vickers

I think the issue is that she's not a funny character. She's meant to be a perfect character for lister to dream about. Swapping a funny character out with an unfunny character isn't going to do well...

Matthew Seaward

Yeah this one was a bit of a stinker. Thankfully Rimmers not out for too long and you do get a (sort of) Cameo later this series.
