Depends if you went "all in" and got the huge tattoo...

Phil Robinson

My bedroom is just covered in pictures of King Boomer, is that weird?

Daniel Heywood

Armando Ianucci is a titan of good British comedy, producing The Day Today (Alan's first TV) Knowing Me Knowing You and both seasons of IAP also The Thick of it. The 2 irish tv execs were Arthur Matthews & Graham Linehan who wrote Father Ted, & obviously Graham Linehan went on to write The IT Crowd.

Neal Murdoch

Sue Cook was a very prim and proper middle aged tv presenter who you couldn't imagine telling anyone to stick it up their arse.

Neal Murdoch

Steve Coogan has always said Alan is 10 years older than him so Steve would have been in his thirties during this season.

Neal Murdoch

the coffee in the washing machine pod....oh man that's funny...he just says cheers and drinks it too....HAHA

James West

I reckon the accent wasn't that bad but you gotta pout your lips more (especially on the vowels) show your upper front teeth a bit more to get *his* impersonation right and maybe a tad quieter to get that early morning radio presenter type voice.

Joe Thornhill

This actually happened to the comedian Stewart Lee...who used to write for the radio show where Alan was created

Paul Liversage

I’m Alan Partridge was 1997 - 2002, Steve Coogan was 32 in 1997

Duncan

For me, Series 2 isn't even close to this series. I feel he becomes a bit too much of a caricature of himself.

Wilss

can agree! little nuanced sure but amazing show. maybe not youtube safe? but very very good show. so is skins! lol (as i will always say) - but that's also very sweary but great shows so is this!

James West

Glad Leeds gets a mention 🤣

Luke Fisher

Armando Iannucci was responsible for the US show Veep which was based on his BBC series 'The Thick Of It', if you wasn't to hear top drawer swearing and insults then I'd recommend this. Also he did the movie 'Death of Starlin' another worthwhile watch!

Jason Bonner

Steve Coogan is a brilliant actor. He has recently played Jimmy Savile, omg too creepily good.

Lz Bristol

The Irish man with the black hair was Graham Linehan

R Lawrence

King Boomer. I have some EXCLUSIVE insight for you. I'm friends with Ian Sharrock the actor who played Jed, the mentalist, in this episode. He lives in my village and is most famous for playing regular character Jackie Merrick in the British Soap opera, Emmerdale from 1980-89. He told me about filming this episode and said that his wife asked Coogan, "Are you gonna work with my husband again?" He replied "No. Because he's too funny!"

Jake Ratcliff

Armando Iannuci is one of the funniest writers around. The thick of it is iconic

Rach

I heard they were recording Father Ted in the same studio at the time, and Linehan & Mathews agreed to take part in that scene. Don't know if that's true!

Adam

Armando Iannucci is an absolute king of the absurd/satirical comedy trope of British comedy, alongside Chris Morris (Denholm Reynholm!). The Armando Iannucci shows in my opinion is one of the most underrated comedies of all time. It's technically a sketch show, so probably fine to react to individual sketches on YouTube, but the episodes all have a theme and the sketches are loosely related to each other, so some context might be missed.

Adam

KB, re your intro. Don’t worry too much about the accent, just nail those Partrigisms and become the Stateside AP.

Dans_t16s

Yes to all these- great suggestions!

jon d

'Mentalist' has been my insult of choice for crazy people since 1997 and probably until I die.

Jazz Chilli

Not at all Jay I love EB

Brian Moran

The Thick of It (another show by Armando Iannucci) is great, very sweary, you'd love it!

Michael Lloyd

That’s just reminded me. Parole Officer would be a good watch with KB.

Pee-Wee Stairmaster

The Armando Iannucci Shows definitely worth a watch, he also directs the second series of I'm Alan Partridge, I was eating while watching this reaction which is always a bad idea, I almost choked twice, so funny!

Mark Jones

They’re the creators of father ted Alan is meeting

Mr Robot

Sunday, bloody Sunday.

Billy Rockets

Are you going to watch 24 Hour Party People? If you haven't already.

Billy Rockets

You should read up on Steve Coogan. He has had a colourful life. He was with Courtney Love for a while.

Wesley MacDonald

Deffo 😁

Martin Nercessian

Steve was 32 in this

Rob webber

Excellent ep and reaction! 🤣 ♥ Loved your AP voice intro. 🧀 'The Armando Iannucci Shows' (2001) are def worth seeing, there are 8 episodes in total. Like all comedy sketch shows, it can be hit or miss but when it hits, it is great! Such as the Alan Ford sketch in it that you've reacted to. I'd also highly, highly recommend The Peter Serafinowicz Show (2007), only one series, six eps and one Christmas Special. Every ep will have you in stitches. This series is a real gem that lots of people haven't seen. Peter Serafinowicz is incredibly talented at great comedy and he is a very impressive mimic of famous actors. In the show, he does De Niro, Alan Alda, Kevin Spacey, Marlon Brando (in a Jabba the Hutt bodysuit), Michael Caine, Ringo Starr and others. A 10/10 UK comedy show. And another shout-out for 'The Day Today' and its sequel series 'Brass Eye'. (Christopher Morris, the Denholm Renholm actor)

Alan Partridge's supposed age has got closer to Coogan's as the years have gone on, they tend to be a bit more vague about it now. They aged Alan up quite a lot in season 2 with makeup, but then have gone back on that since. Based on the recent podcast I think Alan is supposed to be in his early 60s, so more like 5 years older than Coogan - as opposed to 10 or so as it was back in the 90s.

Ian Tellam

Aye I've seen eclectic beard reactions. Limmy show is brilliant, weirdly I didn't like it when it first came out but it grew on me, feel like limmy's show is more wierd, obscure humour which is transferable. Still game is probably more relatable to people who grew up in working class Glasgow like myself. Even when I'm watching eclectic beards reaction I think alot of the references probably don't make sense to him, even some of the references are a bit before my time haha

Christopher ANDERSON

The Irish actors we see in this are Graham Linehan who wrote Father Ted, Black Books and The IT Crowd (the one on the right and also saw him in IT Crowd) and the one closest to Alan is Arthur Mathews who has either written or contributed to television comedies, such as Father Ted, Big Train, and Toast of London and Harry Enfield and Chums.

SEAN

@Christopher ANDERSON I was recommended Still Game by quite a few friends with similar humour, but I didn't get a lot of it. I think it's one of those shows that plays better for Scottish audiences. I do love Scottish humour though, especially The Limmy Show. If you want a good Still Game reaction, you should check out Eclectic beard reactions channel. He's loving the show from what I understand. (I'm sure KB doesn't mind me plugging his channel, as KB mentions him quite a bit).

Jay

Steve Coogan and Felicity Montagu (Lynn) were both 10+ years younger than their characters at the time

Eleanor Elliott

Some of the little non sequiturs at the end of the opening titles are actually from deleted scenes. The one in this episode, for example, is from the previous episode where he's talking with Lynn in the car, the original scene was much longer. There's a couple of fun bits of trivia about this episode too. Simon Pegg almost got the part of Jed Maxwell, and if you look closely during An Afternoon With Alan Partridge you can see Ben and Sophie in the audience.

Charlie

Fair play bro, depends on your humour I suppose. Like I've never been a big fan of peep show, I can find it funny, but I'd never sit down and tune in to it if you know what I mean, haven't even watched KBs reactions cause I'm not a big fan. Like you say, we are all different.

Christopher ANDERSON

I'm with KB on this one... A lot of people rave about it but I didn't like it all after trying a few episodes and just don't get the hype at all but we're all different.

BigChanChan

Steve Coogan would have been 32 when he made this episode.

danny gibson

Series 2 is even better!

Beccy

Brilliant episode, miss this series.. great to watch it again with your reaction, new lease of life :-) Thanks very much!

MarkC

The Armando Ianucci show is definitely worth a look and I think it's only about 8 episodes

Richard Stokes

The Armando Iannucci show is definitely worth a watch.

Lawson Briggs

This episode first aired in 1997, Steve Coogan was born in 1965.

Mark Williamson

The best episode!

John Dawber

Woohoo, just in from work and KB has the goods ready. A-Haaaaaa!

Jason Scade

RE Armando Iannuchi, yes he did make that show with Alan Ford, but he's probably more notable for Death of Stalin, The Thick of It, and Veep.

SJB

There's more to Steve "dan dis". 🍀

Jason Scade

@Brodie That makes me want to listen to Radiohead's 'Exit music for a film' track.

Jason Scade

Aw fair play, maybe the humour doesn't translate well. Please don't be sorry 🤣

Christopher ANDERSON

Yeah and the other guy would make a cameo as "Father Ben" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k8aqsRuQgc😄

Brodie Vickers

My fave episode . One or both of Steve’s parents are Irish so he got away with a lot of this 😂. Yeah I flew to Belfast for a tenner once. Ireland is stunning

Erica

I made the attempt over a year ago. I did the first 3 episodes but I didn't enjoy it, sorry.

Brian Moran

The two Irish guys are the creators of Father Ted and IT Crowd

makadeni123

Christopher ANDERSON

I thought it was him but I wasn’t sure lol.

Brian Moran

BEHOLD! The creators of Father Ted! and later Graham Lineham would do IT Crowd and Black Books too.

Brodie Vickers

Yay, new AP. Shame it's on a bloody Sunday though.

ALW

I'd love to hear your AP impersonation attempts King ! 😂😂👍

Rich

I bet KB sometimes feels like Alan at the end of this episode, with some of the comments he has to read.
