He said "SMELL MY CHEESE YOU MOTHER!"

Tone Grumbt

So happy to have just joined your Patron to watch ch stuff like this 😃👍

Rich

i live in norfolk

Chay Davenport

Also all seasons and episodes are free to watch on YouTube. Banging Boomerite

Craig

New British show for you to watch "people just do nothing". Mocumentary about djs in London trying to make it. It was so popular that universal or paramount made a feature film from it.

Craig

i wasn't sure about this at first because of the 'it's old and lame stuff that my grandparents used to watch' perception, but as i'm subbed here and you're watching it for the first time through too, i figured why not - and this is actually the first reaction of something you're doing that i haven't already seen before at some point in the past myself, and i have to say there was one part here in your reaction that was hilarious to me. as a first viewer to the show too, the character himself seemed funny and his acting was very consistent to the character etc and it was like ...yeah ok..they're building a picture of him...but then when he walked swiftly and almost hopped to get in front of the woman to be first to the door, i laughed immediately and so did you and that made it a million times funnier

James West

i can't help but see parts of this and immediately relate all of it's early 90's settings and mannerisms and décor to the settings of my grandparents house. i've never seen this before but it seems very in tune with the kind of late night tv that parents and grandparents of people my age from the UK would watch back when we were too young to watch it ourselves and were already in bed asleep as little kids lol

James West

yes my favorite character of them all , keep up the good work 😁

suppliedreedo

Ordinarily I would check that nobody else has said this before posting but their are way too many comments here to wade through so while I'm pretty sure multiple people will have, I'll say it too just in case... the show he's trying to get a second series of is a real thing. It's a spoof chat show called Knowing Me, Knowing You and they did 6 episodes plus a christmas special. It's really fricking funny stuff.

Paflad

You've got to do Day today now! That's the first outing on television of Alan and his admiration for the footballers athletic physique.

Mangled Manatee

Welcome to the wonderful world of Alan Partridge. There's so much material of him to see. The Day Today, Knowing Me Knowing You, Mid Morning Matters, This Time plus stage shows and specials.

Neal Murdoch

SO HAPPY YOUR DOING PARTRIDGE, AHAAA

Ketzalborne

My friend has it and it really winds me up when people say it's just laziness because I've never known anyone want to work harder than her.

Rach

I like to think Sally didn't know before hand what he was going to say and just couldn't handle it, because after seeing her in Taskmaster, she seems a bit dirty minded or just has an immature sense of humor.

Joe Thornhill

The woman you may have seen before is Sally Phillips. She pops up all over UK comedy. She’s also in Veep as the Finnish PM.

Matthew Keating

Haha I know! 😂

Kristopher Barton

The whole bit about Richard Keys and Andy Gray :D

Kevin Liversage

I was thinking of watching all these again, I thought I'd just wait for you to do it haha

Daniel Heywood

@Erica That's hilarious! 😅👍

Jason Scade

You reckon it's repetitive? I didn't feel that but tbf I havent watched it in a good few years, worth a go though if he wants to stop I'd understand.

LiamShaer7

SMELL MY CHEESE YOU MOTHER!

Brodie Vickers

ME is Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, also called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Shoomer1988

Sweet, I love Richard Madeley 🤣

Tom Richardson

nah both brilliantly written mate, black books and spaced are in the inbetweeners and friday night dinner category of humour. True different types of humour is subjective. But i only watch comedy and I know what is funnier so. Don't get me wrong i like this show, but is it is amusing more than funny

Jordan Lewis French

Yeah the laughter track is a bit OTT on this at times... Also, Only Fools and Horses has references to past obscure British-centric celebrities too and he enjoys that so I think he'll be fine.

BigChanChan

I think he would love it but he's also got bored quickly with anything that's repetitive so I'm not sure how many season's he'd stick with.

BigChanChan

In your opinion... It's all subjective... I love Black Books but saying it's way funnier is pushing it for me and I personally hate Spaced, even though it has some of my favourite actors in it but it's a student appealing comedy, relying on movie and nerd culture references which I find to be lazy comedy to be honest.

BigChanChan

In his autobiography he said while Carol and he were arguing and about to split up Bill Oddie interrupted by knocking on the door asking for his binoculars back. Haha

Erica

Yip 100% but Id say most casual fans did as well, or found them after. However the TV knowing me knowing you is the best place to start. It's the story of his show failing, him trying to save it and basically how he has ended up where he is in I'm Alan Partridge. It makes way more sense to watch it first and not the other way around

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

hope you get round to doing black books and spaced.. way funnier :)

Jordan Lewis French

Holy shit, it begins

Pete Owen

Alan's TV career as some have already said started on spoof news show The Day Today which also has Chris Morris as the news anchor who you know as Denholm Reynham. It's really weird and funny, you should check out some clips for yt

Richard Stokes

You should definitely do Taskmaster at some point, you'll love it and you probably know enough comedians by now that you'll always recognise someone.

LiamShaer7

Fab reaction. 🧀 🤣❤ Perhaps King B could squeeze in the first episode of the prior Alan Partridge series, whilst he's doing I'm Alan Partridge_Series 1. KB, in the series that precedes I'm Alan Partridge.. Alan actually has a chat show and has 3 different guest on, in each episode. There are six episodes to this previous series and it is called 'Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge'. Then there is one Christmas Special of "KMKYWAP".

Jason Scade

Goof choice, well done

Stephen Morris

The laughter track always feels very out of place in this show. It was a show pretty ahead of its time for the mid nineties in a lot of ways, and much more in line with the style of today's sitcoms, so that kind of sticks out now. Always feels a bit tacked on when I revisit it. Seems odd that you would have watched the film before seeing anything else. Even before I'm Alan Partridge he'd existed as a character for a number of years in other shows, as well as his 'chat show', 'Knowing me Knowing You'. There's been even more stuff since then - several other shows, his fictional autobiograpy (the audiobook is amazing), the online series Mid Morning Matters, the movie. Every few years Coogan will do some new AP project. There's a whole rabbit hole of Partridge lore out there by now. He's probably one of the most extensively developed comic characters out there. I think you're right, it would be tough to get some of the references. Not just because they're quite esoteric and British, but also they're quite 90s on top of that - especially with the other minor celebrities that get mentioned. I wouldn't expect you to know who Bill Odie is or why it would be funny he's calling Alan. Tbh even I would struggle to explain that exactly, it just is on some intuitive level.

Ian Tellam

Great choice KB!!

Tom

The young darker-haired receptionist is played by Sally Phillips who was in Friday Night Dinner amongst many other comedy shows. P.S. keep your eyes peeled for 2 Irish guys who turn up in a later episode, Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews - the writers of Father Ted. There will also be a couple of other famous faces in other episodes who have been in your previous reactions.

Fordy7169

wayhey! a great pick for a new show

theOraclelives

And didn't give her a lift all the way home and said he will drop her off at the cab rank!

Peter Andrews

Seems fitting you started reacting to this now, just as they have announced a new 6 part series of Alan Patridge, so will have new ones to react to once seen the old ones

Peter Andrews

Fantastic choice KB.

Fordy7169

ME = Chronic fatigue. Unfortunately, it suffers a similar stigma to it as mental illness, where it's brushed off as not-real, or something only lazy people have. I know someone with it, and can vouch that it's nothing like that.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

There are many people who these characters are based on. Alot of them voted for Brexit. In fact Farage is a classic Partridge.

Yaapsdad

Partridge is a classic British comedy character. Pompous, self important, inadequate and a failure. Similar to Captain Mainwaring in Dad's Army or Basil Fawlty and many others.

Yaapsdad

In that case, he also missed The Day Today and the other Chris Morris shows in which he appeared as Alan Partridge. As well as the radio version of Knowing me, knowing you.

Kristopher Barton

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although you need to get the back story. Knowing me knowing you would of been great to of reacted to first although not necessarily needed. As long as you know he had a crazy chat show before hand.

Tim Phillipson

Alan Partridge is one of the greatest comedy characters ever created. He has so many flaws. The series as with all Partridge , has alot of great comedy character actors, many of whom appear in different shows and films as well. It overall is a work of genius. Though some of it will undoubtedly go over your head, enough of it will hit home and I'm sure you'll really enjoy it

Yaapsdad

Michael the hotel porter’s accent is Newcastle (“Geordie”), way up in northern England, lot of us from the rest of the UK can’t understand it either if they’ve never met one (bit like people in the US not being able to understand a really Deep South Louisiana bayou accent) If you enjoy the show and stick with it (which I strongly suspect you will) then by season 2 you’ll understand him just fine. I’m looking forward to that day, not many Americans can lol

Chug

Yayyy Alan Partridge

Aaron Close

There are some absolutely classic moments from this point

Julian Gore

Brilliant series, gets better and better, I prefer season 2 personally

Chris

Absolutely love this show! Great reaction! Knowing Me, Knowing You documented the first series Alan had on television and if you see that, you'll understand why Tony Hayers doesn't want to give Alan a second series! It's well worth a watch but I do think I'm Alan Partridge is the stronger series overall. This was a fairly tame intro- funny, but it just gets funnier. You will no doubt be laughing out loud at much of it! "Smell my cheese, you mother!" is almost as entrenched in the British hall of quotable dialogue as Shakespeare's "To be or not to be..." No, really. :p Look forward to more!

Ash Jeffries

yesss

L M

I don't know about that, still pretty good😂

Brodie Vickers

The Day Today. 🏆 🍺

Jason Scade

Perhaps King B could squeeze in the first episode of the prior Alan Partridge series, whilst he's doing I'm Alan Partridge_Series 1. KB, in the series that precedes I'm Alan Partridge.. Jason Scade

ME is a condition but he was mixing it with the phrase knowing me (ME) knowing you cause that was his first bbc show

R Lawrence

Armando Ianucci whose involved in the making of Alan partridge made the movie the death of Stalin very funny good cast one for your reviews. Phoenix nights is funnier just sayin

Mr Robot

Really hope you stick with this one kb. This show has some amazing stand out comedy moments in it.

Stu 79

You know what, I must've seen most of the episodes about 10 times and this time was the first time that it clicked that he left Lynn in the car too. I could maybe understand if she was just a friend giving him a lift but she's his P.A. If he wasn't such a dick and brought her along, there's a slim chance that she could've reigned him in and saved the meeting! 😄

danny gibson

Yes! What a return. You know her from FND she was the weird eastern european nanny who wanted to go for cream cakes and tea

Matt

You've seen Sally Phillips in Friday Night Dinner before. She was Gibby, who was infactuated with Jim because he had the fat legs, yes

Stu T

I wasn't sure about whether this would work for you - it's a big ask if you don't know what came before, but I think you're gonna be OK. You've already caught on to the premise and the supporting characters, you laughed a lot, and it only gets more hilarious from here.

Phil Robinson

Good choice KB! The Queen might like this too!

Richard Stokes

I love Alan Partridge! One of my favourite comedy characters ever. An overinflated ego combined with anxiety, a lack of social skills and zero self awareness. Very excited that we might be diving into the rabbit hole! This is a fine starting point but as others have said there's also the spoof talk show Knowing Me Knowing You which came before this, and he also made appearances on The Day Today, a spoof investigative-journalism show starring Chris Morris (aka Denholm Reynholm)

Dextrous (Lewis)

Why does everyone start here first? Knowing Me, Knowing You is the place to start. It helps you get to know Alan better then this all comes off as way funnier.

Wilss

Ooh, and the next episode is perfect to drop next week for Valentine's Day!

Manly Stump

Partridge on KB? What a ride this is going to be, fine choice

Chug

So glad you're back and you're all safe, I was wondering what new show/s might appear and have to say I'm over the moon to see this, excellent choice, such a classic, you're gong to fecking love Alan!!!

Mark Jones

Only disappointed in your pic because embrace the suck are doing in too..and like them you're missing the first series and Christmas special

Paul Liversage

Sally Phillips was the girl on reception, she's been in lots of stuff. Smack the Pony was a great female-led sketch show

Brodie Vickers

Jurassic Park!

Adam

I know it can be watched as a stand alone... But it's annoying all the same... And the first season is brilliant and gives a bit of background to his madness here.

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

The receptionist was in Bridget Jones and other things but Jones was all I could think of for the moment without googling

Erica

There's a subtle joke in this episode that didn't really register with me until pretty recently: Alan brings Lynn to the lunch at the BBC, but he leaves her in the car, which is peak Alan. The whole meeting when he's pitching programmes has sort of attained iconic status, "Monkey Tennis" is now shorthand for cheap, tacky, lowest common denominator TV. About twenty years ago too, I remember the bands A and Goldfinger going on tour together, and it was called the Inner City Sumo Tour. Oh, and Cooking in Prison became reality about a decade ago.

Charlie

Wish you'd done Knowing Me Knowing You beforehand, but it's all goooood. With your sense of humor, you'll fucking love this show😄See if the Queen will like it.

Brodie Vickers

Before this there was a few series called knowing me knowing you that you possibly should have watched first, it would make more sense to you

Rob webber

If I remember rightly, the first episode is one of the weakest and it gets better as it goes on... There will be references that you'll miss like in this one but there's still enough funny moments in it that are universal.

BigChanChan

For reference.. the accent that the character Michael has is 'Geordie' (as in Newcastle / North East England, where I am from). We have a unique dialect that a lot of people find difficult to understand unless we speak slowly.

Wayne Atkinson

Back of the net KB!

Andrew Powell

I’m so happy you got to this! My husband and I still quote this daily

Jazz Chilli

Good choice boomer! Love this one!! 👍

Matt Wells

you should also at least check out an episode of "Knowing Me Knowing You"-- his fake chat show which is what he's trying to get a second series of in this ep

Russ

Great reaction, thank you! Yes I think there are references in here you won't get, but many Brits under 30 probably wouldn't get half the references either! Lots of references to obscure, minor or eccentric British celebrities from the 1980s and 1990s that Alan pretends he is friends with. I don't think you need to know who they are to find it funny. It's just Alan being a bit of a fantasist or a name-dropper to make himself feel better as his BBC TV career falls apart, he lives in a motel, he is estranged from his wife, his kids don't want to speak to him, he has the graveyard slot on local radio, and all he has is Lynn, his long-suffering and faithful PA. The whole series is about him trying to "bounce back" and relaunch his career despite being a terrible TV presenter.

Ash X

"Smell my cheese you nobber"

BazMan01

ME = https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/chronic-fatigue-syndrome-cfs/

John Dawber

I hope you love this show, it’s endlessly rewatchable to me. Just some info about Alan prior to this show, The very first show with Alan Partridge is called Knowing Me Knowing You, it’s Alan hosting his own talk show that goes from bad to worse with each interview, resulting in it’s cancellation (as part of the Alan storyline not a real cancellation). This is why he’s asking for a second series in this show.

James Ellison

I think After Work Reactions did too but it doesn't really matter anyway.

BigChanChan

Alan Partridge and Only Fools on the same day what a treat

Adam 95

You're right, you have seen Sophie (Sally Phillips) before. She played the weird foreign au pair on Friday Night Dinner. Didn't like her much in that, but in this (and Taskmaster) she's great.

Z is for Zed

Yes, yes and yes! Awesome you are doing this!

Stephen H

Here we go….

Ewan Dunn

OK it's great but you've missed the first season! Knowing me, knowing you. ETS done the same thing, feckin Americans😂

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

Haha amazing that you’re doing this!

Philip Tomlinson

the day has come!!

Russ

OMG! I've been banging on about this for ages. I'm so stoked you've started your Alan Partridge journey. ♥ He's a national treasure, going for over 30 years now and Steve Coogan is *still* putting out new, top tier laughs Partridge projects. Gonna watch right now! :D Another shout out for two Christopher Morris shows (boss Denholm Renholm in The IT Crowd) ; 'The Day Today' and its sequel series 'Brass Eye'.

Jason Scade

Awesome! Although you should have watched these before film... but fair enough dude

Rob webber

Excellent choice 👌and on the day the docuseries has been announced by the BBC. I'm currently relistening to his audible audiobook series as well as his new novel. It's still fantastic stuff 👍

Kristopher Barton

OMG I'M SO HAPPY

Beccy

So glad your doing this. Its peak British humour.

TomPalmer

Kiss my face!

Duncan Hart

Yes KB!

Jon

Jurassic Park! So excited to start this with you, KB!

Manly Stump

A-HAAA

Rhys Jones

What a great choice to replace Peep Show!

James Wilkinson

Yesssss! He’s back! And he’s starting Alan Partridge! Double whammy!

Alex Birchall

OMG!! I’ve been waiting so longgggg!!! ❤️

Rhys Jones

So happy that you've started watching Alan P!

John Dawber
