2024-09-05 23:54:01 +0000 UTCNo he wasn't. He was good, don't get me wrong, but many of his ideas and plots were nicked from 'Steptoe and Son', which was his favourite sitcom. Sometimes they were blatant (compare the Steptoe episode 'Full House' to the OFAH episode 'A Losing Streak' its virtually a carbon copy) and other times he altered it slightly (In the movie version of Steptoe they think Harold's Son is Jesus, Sullivan switched it to the Antichrist for Damien who was also born to Racquel - a stripper, same as Harold's wife was a stripper). All these 'genius' accolades need to go to the right people, Ray Galton and Alan Simpson. Sullivan pilfered much of their material. 'Steptoe and Son' was the very first comedy that was hysterically funny one minute and then very sad the next. Steptoe used to get 28 million viewers per episode! Knocks the 24 million OFAH got into a cocked hat really, doesn't it?

He was one ov the uks best ever comedy writers. . And then you have the great David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst national treasures. The 3 together were so good .
