I'm not a fan of this film particularly, but that head-shot @1:10:25 has got to be one of the most satisfying ever in film.

You’re unfortunately wrong regarding it being unbelievable- it’s sadly very believable in certain areas of cities in England

Glad I am not the only one getting a sense of charles bronson in death wish but an english version with michael caine and the cast of game of thrones. Well we can't really say the cast of game of thrones because all english actors tend to get around in the same circles here. Which is refreshing sometimes because they are brilliant and it's refreshing to get them bunched up like this.
Hence why I think KB will get a kick out of Sharpe, notably there is a few well known actors and actresses in Sharpe. For example, Daniel craig, Michael byrne, Hugh Ross, Brian Cox, Elizabeth hurley.
quite a few doctor who actors too, also Pete Postlethwaite (Usual Suspects, Treasure Island) Also though Matthew Scurfield who played el mirador in sharpe also played the starks steward in game of thrones. Funny how they all get around.

sadly that is what it can be like in inner cities now re riots. and it was London. the riot police tactics were fairly accurate, don't forget the coppers do not carry guns.

This film is a scary and accurate representation of a lot of London these days.

I'm not sure where the estate is but the subway underpass looks like Romford. The main young hooligan was played by Ben Drew aka Plan B was also in the movie The Sweeney, with Ray Winstone, a remake of the classic TV series of the 70's. You should put that on your list. It's about two coppers who are in the specialist armed robbery unit called the Flying Squad and nicknamed as the Sweeney from the Cockney rhyming slang Sweeney Todd, Flying Squad.

A gangster film i think KB would enjoy is The Long Good Friday, Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren. Excellent film, plus it features a very early appearance from Pierce Brosnan. Also would make a great double bill with Mona Lisa, starring Hoskins and Michael Caine.

The riot is also a great reference to Harry Browns past in Northern Ireland which would have been a very regular occurrence.

Honestly the riot part is pretty realistic in the context of the London riots that kicked off two years after. One of Caine's best films imo, I'm glad you got to see it

I remember watching this in 2009 and thinking the same "The riot part was a bit unrealistic". Then 2011 came and the London riots happened and I was like "Well, shows what I know" 😂

Don’t think I’ve seen either of these recommended.. one of my favourite British thrillers in Calibre (in my opinion one of the tensest and most claustrophobic films of recent years) and brilliant prison-set drama/thriller Starred Up.
The authenticity and everyday grittiness of the performances are what really help sell British thrillers for me

Agree with Daz. I remember watching that at fifteen or so when I was about the same age as the teens in the film and it scared the shit out of me more than any horror

I went down to London one time to see my pal and he took me to the estate this was filmed on. It was about to be demolished and was deserted. We had it all to ourselves it seemed, felt like a post-apocalyptic zombie movie. I think it was the same one anyway, a London native may correct me.

Those places are called 'Estates' with the brutalist architecture and layout, or what you would call the Projects, in the US! some of the scum of Britain live there (not saying that because its lower class), but those areas tend to have anti-social problems some of the time. But i just realized this is like a old man version of Equalizer or John wick.
