Only Fools and Horses "A Royal Flush" REACTION!

you clock Del shooting from the hip too......👀😱👏👏🤷‍♂️😂😂 Love that story about your mate tho👏👏😂😂💜

Adam Hale

Except it had nothing to do with "pc culture," John Sullivan himself was never happy with how Delboy comes across in this episode and when the DVD came out he took the opportunity to trim the worst parts of Del's behaviour out to make him less of a scumbag. This was always the worst episode of OFAH.

ben smith

Under rated special

Justyn

NPCs? Fucking hell

Jamie

I think Del though did Rodney a favour the girl was not really into him and you can tell by her dad's reaction he was not too keen and that's before Del even turned up

Paul Hynes

This episode was actually edited down by John Sullivan himself when it came out on DVD as he was never happy with how unlikable Del comes across in it, and was trying to make him less abrasive. And personally I agree with his decision, having owned the VHS back in the 90s and then the DVD, Del was absolutely insufferable in the original

ben smith

pc culture can go drown itself in a river backwards. fucking pc cupcake bullshit! (I'm referring to the way they cut so much stuff that offends low iq npc's btw :D )

TheHigh

The thing with OFAH is there are just so many great characters to allow for a wide variety of great stories to fill the extra time

GeeBee

If we want we could vote them out of existing but we don’t

Mark Parker

Shouldn't sound so weird; I'm a Brit, I own firearms. As long as you've got a licence its all OK.

ALW

The lady programme seller also played the lady from the Peckham Bowling Club ☺

reason*

Bobby B

the best bit of the episode is missing in this one for some reaosn

Bobby B

John Sullivan famously hated this episode as he hated the way he'd written Del to be such a wanker. The extended length of next seasons episodes are when it became a national institution, particularly the first episode

Neal Murdoch

agree this not most likeable episode but now that one is done we hitting peak ofah.the comedy actually gets stronger in the longer episodes and i can not wait for your reaction to the dates episode in a couple episodes time.im going to morroco on holiday 28th dec so please please upload dates before i go

sean fealey

Yes, the original uncut version would have fleshed out the comedy/story e.g. Del arguing with the other attendees in the opera for making a noise, June being sick off-camera for eating too much. Del starting to tell the ski-ing joke/Henry shouting at him at the dinner table. Having said that the general gist of the plot was unaffected. Probably the only episode where Del came across as unlikeable in parts. Great acting/writing.

Fordy7169

Well done getting through that one. Most of it was filmed in and around my hometown, Salisbury. Probably my least favourite episode though. Unlike Benidorm, the comedy doesn't get diluted with the longer episodes, so I think you'll enjoy it.

Adi Hughes

I've offered before, the muppet ain't interested, he only replies to his favourite pet's 😏

Phoenix

The original is even more savage and unfunny in terms of Del's (and June's) behaviour imo.

Richard M

dude you need to check out bad lads army

Thomas Stirrup

Hello. I completely agree, it is an insult to the great work that was invested into these shows, the BBC seem to neglect the fact that there are people around who find content which may not be deemed PC quite hilarious - myself included. If there is a way for any future specials to be given to KB in order for him to be able to react to the proper original version, it'd make it all the more fruitful to watch. Thank you.

Chief of Staff

My old boss is in 'Who's Who' - the red book

Kiwi Tau

I'm glad you enjoyed it, As you can see though it is definitely controversial! Not sure myself - it's not something I'd rush to watch, but it has some really nice stuff in it - it's that awful dinner scene that puts everyone off. Anyway, I'm just repeating shit others have already covered. I greatly enjoyed your reaction to Del and the pump action (very funny scene), that anecdote you had to go with that was fun too. Onwards and upwards!

Phil Robinson

It is utterly difficult for me to watch the episode. Del goes from being a bit of a likable prick to utterly toxic and abusive in his behavior and actions.

Daniel

Was expecting KB to hate this one but glad he didn't.

Nick Davis

It's one of the most unpopular episodes due to del being drunk and showing himself up

Rob webber

EXACTLY! Especially when Del is arguing with other members of the audience lol.

James Dowling

funny how you say the opera is like West Side Story. You do know that West Side Story was a Broadway musical version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Yaapsdad

Please send him the full uncut specials if you can. The edited ones are so annoying to watch. Cheers

Jehan Ariyaratnam

I said he came across as evil. He obviously didn't try to sabotage it. Gtting married into that family would have given Del a lifetime of making money off them. I think he just lost his head overthinking it.

makadeni123

Worst episode I've seen so far, too much cringe

Aaron

There's much better episodes also that I know will be cut, the cut scenes are vital also. This Royal Flush was so watered down.

Phoenix

Send him the full version of Miami twice - I hate the cuts they made to that one

Jehan Ariyaratnam

And here are the bits that were cut out for those that miss them. :) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1l5b17_a-royal-flush-cuts Possibly some bits at the opera could have stayed in, but the cringe stuff at the dinner, didn’t work for me at all, in fact I couldn’t see Rodney shaking hands with Dell when they returned to the flat after all that. The references they removed would have gone over 90% of heads today. Mike Yarwood, Benny from Crossroads, Tony Benn, Dixon of Dock green. All good edit choices IMHO

Gary Tamblyn

Was hoping it wasn't the edited version but it is. Probably a good idea to source from a different place as there's also future episodes that are cut down too. Especially a fan favourite "the jolly boys outing" I've warned you about these cuts before. I have all the unedited versions of the specials in 1080p. The cuts are due to music rights mostly and PC crap. The cuts seriously degrade the show, I could never watch anything knowing it's edited for reason other than a directors choice. The BBC are atrocious. I'm amazed they didn't edit out the "run you wrist down it" line when dels selling the knives, they actually have a further edited version with that missing. Someone of Facebook has actually collated all episodes to near full editions using dvd, tv and vhs. Hopefully you'll dig deeper and find uncut episodes or we here can send you them.

Phoenix

I think the fact David Jason was planning on leaving and the last episode was supposed to be the last may have played a part in this one not working as well. I’m glad John Sullivan took his time on writing the next couple of specials and Series 6

Gary Tamblyn

Even the writer John sullivan said, that this is the worst episode, but it does have its moments

Ian Staines

Strange how people see things differently, I thought this version (first time seeing the cut back version) was much better than the original, better paced and I didn’t feel short changed despite removing 17 minutes. The laughter was apparently an actual audience reaction from a showing of this version. No longer my least favourite episode after the edit.

Gary Tamblyn

Definitely the worst episode, but was still good to see you laugh at it, at the bit where your creased over his shotgun lol. Probably the best bit.

Ross stewart

Well, that's the hump over. Good things from here on out.

Z is for Zed

May have this episode to thank as it probably made a difference to sullivan going forward.

John

Definitely! I'm amazed at the amount of comments on here saying this version is better.... no way! They cut out alot of funny bits for no reason, i.e Albert's "Do me a favour!" and Rodney asking for the programmes, "No two programmes love.." Most important of all, Del telling the Irish bloke skiing joke which is what sends Henry raging. This version just cuts straight to him seething in the hallway and starting on Del with no real build up to him being so enraged. Plus, the amount of cuts to the scene of them watching 'Carmen' is criminal.

Rob Walters

Only fools and horses still gets better and better from now! Don't worry! Some of the best content is still yet to come! And I'm really not just saying that! It truly is!

Matt Rumsey

Dates is a fantastic episode. I also love The frogs legacy and Rodney come home which aren't necessarily as famous

Jehan Ariyaratnam

Why did he spend £500 on his kit then? Seems a bit pointless to waste that much if all he was going to do was ruin things

Jehan Ariyaratnam

Series 3 is pretty good, series 5 ok … the rest of Benidorm leaves a lot to be desired imo lol

Michael May

The only episode where I did NOT like Del lol oddly enough this episode is pretty bad, but the series as a whole goes from strength to strength from now onwards imo

Michael May

https://www.ofah.net/blog/only-fools-and-horses-cuts-part-9/ Here is a break down of all the cuts from this episode. I've only seen the uncut version once and now the cut version once and I don't really think it's any better. Definitely a low point in the series but it's about to get much much better.

Chris C

Yeah..poor episode..Del may manipulate Rodney but normally with a nasty side

Paul Liversage

I'd echo previous statements. It's not one of the better specials. It's where Del Boy's manipulation becomes nasty, and he is actively ruining Rodney's life. BUT...the next specials, The Frog's Legacy and Dates, are excellent, and season 6 is fantastic. The next season and few specials are probably peak OFAH.

SJB

Perhaps it was only ever intended as a 1 hour episode and they were forced to pad it out to fill the Christmas schedule ? Seeing the cut down version, I think it works a lot better.

Gary Tamblyn

I’ve seen the longer version a few times over the years and was never a fan. Like you say the writer was never happy with it either. This is the first time seeing the shortened version and I actually think by cutting 17 minutes of weaker material out, it made the story flow a lot better. The addition of a laughter track (which they got from showing the edited version to an audience apparently) surprisingly also lifted it for me. Think they did a great job of salvaging possibly the worst episode in the edit. I now rate it above video nasty 🙂

Gary Tamblyn

The next 2 specials, "The Frogs Legacy" and "Dates" are great btw- you'll love those episodes, really funny and well written

Jehan Ariyaratnam

My take has always been that Del Boy purposely ruined things because he knew the relationship would go pear shaped once Rodney's police record was uncovered. Therefore, he made himself so unbearable that the Duke would push the Trotter's away, by way of a bribe. I guess in Del's mind at least the family would get some money out of it all. It's still a dick move though and completely thoughtless.

Jurgen Fellows

I'm glad you liked this one but it hits a new level from season 6 onwards

Nick Davis

I have never seen this edited version before. God, it's awful. The laugh track feels out of place and the pacing is off due to the amount of cuts. It's a shame because the full unedited episode is far superior and funnier to watch (if you like cringe humour).

Jurgen Fellows

Poor people can’t afford the membership over here, some people opt for clay pigeon stabbing, except no clay pigeons are involved.

Geraint Harrison

Feeling vindicated after your comments about Benidorm. I got jumped on in the comments when I said it went rapidly down hill after series 2. Don’t worry about fools and horses though… some absolute classics still to come!

Miller

As someone else said, Del Boy comes across as evil in this. Out to destroy his brother. Ain't him. All the cast regret this one. Only one they did. Don't worry about the rest being an hour long. Pure gold from now til the end

makadeni123

The original cut was so much better. There’s no canned laughter for a start.

James Dowling

This is probably the worst OFAH in my opinion. I think I've only ever watched it in full a couple of times. Very dark and nasty in comparison to normal episodes.

Marty D

Yeah this is the heavily edited version with a laugh track added. The original version hits a lot harder, it's a lot darker and more dramatic than a usual OFAH episode. The writer admitted he went for a more dramatic tone but just got it completely wrong. Also the actors were away doing other projects and it ended up being rushed. Widely mentioned as one of the worst episodes of the whole show, I still think this one was worth watching for the cringe

Jehan Ariyaratnam

You recovered some running time with that long arse intro. Classic boomer lol

James

Ofah gets better with longer episodes

Michael Oliver

The way Del Boy is portrayed in this a bit off, very dark at times and almost nasty, which isn't his normal character and is probably one of the reasons, some of the cast and the writer weren't happy with it... In fact, I'm sure that was mentioned at the time and much of it cut out in this version... There's loads of really enjoyable and funny episodes to come yet though, including many of the all time classics.

BigChanChan

This one is painful.

Richard M

The longer episodes are so much better. The characters you’ll absolutely care about throughout, and all supporting cast are top notch. Only Fools’ and John Sullivan’s writing is world class and longer episodes means you get world class story arcs. From now on, this is where Only Fools goes from a decent comedy to one of the best, and earns its gold medals. You won’t regret a second

Sam Dilks

This was a controversial episode taking Dels character in a different direction. Fortunately the episode after the next one, “Dates” is a top 5 episode!

AWR93

You watched the edited edition of Royal Flush. The original edition was cut down because it fell short of the writer's expectations. The edited edition also has a laugh track. For me, it's possibly the worst episode of OFAH. You're right not to be worried about the running time going forward. It's an excellent blend of comedy and drama coming up.

John Dawber

It was edited down as the writer wasn't happy with the first version.
