2023-12-06 00:42:51 +0000 UTCI was one of those who was very resistant to the dance music of the 90's, but then I moved into a house with 7 friends and one of them was a hardcore raver and well, he slowly but surely converted all of over to the dark side, but I sure found the likes of The Prodigy helped make the transition easier, next thing I knew I was listening to the Orb, Orbital, DJ Shadow, Aphex Twin et al and loving it!

Meanwhile I was expected to put on a front of being into all the early 90s dance acts as a teenager, such as KLF, The Prodigy and all those types - which I actually was to be honest, but my heart lay elsewhere. Meanwhile I was singing "The Killing Moon" to myself in the bath.

2023-12-05 16:02:30 +0000 UTCIt's funny looking back, as an Indie kid in the 80's I loved all those goth bands too, I even considered Echo and The Bunnymen as strictly Indie but I guess Ian McCulloch definitely had a bit of a goth vibe about him! Most of my Goth friends at the time also liked Industrial Metal, the only goth band of the era which I really didn't care for was Fields of the Nephilim.

2023-12-05 14:06:45 +0000 UTCI'm old enough to remember the alternative rock clubs of the 80's/90's, goths one corner, indie kids the other, metalheads the other etc. the good old days! I was an Indie kid in the 80's and anarcho punk in the 90's, so got into Fugazi early on, and interestingly it was them and similar hardcore bands of the period who the term emo was first coined for, then what we all now think of as emo just borrowed that name from them, so I always think the My Chemical Romance fans et al as second-wave emo's, the first-wave emo's didn't even dress remotely goth.

Originally goth music was more of a dark post-punk movement with some new wave stylings. Bands like The Cure, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Echo and The Bunnymen, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy etc. were the original goth music.

Also Garth Merenghis Dark Place has a lot of this cast in it and is brilliantly weird and stupidly funny! To reiterate though episode 1 of series 2 is thought by many to be the funniest half hour of comedy ever made, it's called The Work Outing

Noel Fielding and Moss were also in another really great show called 'Nathan Barley' which was co-written by Chris Morris who plays Denholm, it's only 6 episodes but it's about the early days of social media and being a content provider, so I'd love to see you react to it one day.
