Red Dwarf S5 Ep1 "Holoship" REACTION!

Smart Rimmer is beyond hilarious.

Red Dwarf S5 Ep1 "Holoship" REACTION!

Comments

None of the main cast were professional actors before starting Red Dwarf, Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) was probably the closest to that, he was in a comedy troupe but acted in plays -that’s how he got the Kryten gig as he played a robot in a satirical play he wrote called ‘Mammon, Robot born of Woman.’ Holly (Norman Lovett and Hattie Hayridge) were both stand ups - both dead pan and Hattie was known as the female Norman on the circuit. Craig Charles (Lister) was a punk poet Danny John-Jules (Cat) was a dancer Chris Barrie (Rimmer) was an impressionist - most famously in Spitting Image

And Holly and Holly (Norman and Hattie) were both stand ups

A lot of people preferred the earlier series of Red Dwarf and thought 5 and 6 weren't as good. If I remember correctly one of the writers left for these two series. I liked them all though, series 8 I was less fond of however

irreverend

Chris Barrie ?Rimmer) was an impressionist, Craig Charles (Lister) was a comedy poet and Danny John Jules (cat) was a dancer

I've suggested the extras but I dont think he wants them - he hasn't asked lol

Chris Barrie was an impressionist. Check out his Ronald Regan on Spitting Image.

To quote Craig Charles "Don't know why I ate that fuck'in cigarette" haha

Thanks King, wasn't expecting another episode so soon! My favourite series of the show. Good Rimmer episode.

I also recommended the mini documentary that came with each series DVD those were fun to watch.

An amazing reaction once again King! Are you aware that each season has a special episode showing all of the outtakes of that season? They are brilliant and full off laughs! Plus you get to peek at the personalities of the actors when they slip up. The special episodes are called "The Smeg Ups" and each episode is hosted by your favourite droid Kryten. Maybe you could react to a special episode at the end of each season 😉

Chris Barrie (Rimmer) really is a very good mimic for accents and the like (as you said). I might have said this before but my memory is pretty shot, Chris does all the character voices on the audiobook versions of Red Dwarf episodes and they are really fun.

I love Jane Horrocks, she's a much beloved gem of an actress over here, I remember the first time I ever saw her in the film 'Life is Sweet' in the arthouse cinema in my university at the time, which would have been 2 years before this episode, actually Mike Leigh is a real gem of a British director who makes the most quintessentially British films, I'd love to see you watch one of his kitchen sink dramedies one day.

Mark Jones

Star Trek Voyager stole/borrowed this idea of a holoship and crew for one of their episodes.

Gary Mcatear

Another absolute favourite of mine - anything focusing on Rimmer is always going to be great. So many great lines. "I have come to regard you as... people... I met." Also great to see the brilliant Jane Horrocks in a lovely role against Chris. No doubt they had a fun time with their scenes together. Jane naturally has a very, VERY strong East Lancastrian accent - so her just being incredibly posh here is amazing. Well it was to us at the time in 1992.

"Lister to Red Dwarf.... We have in our midst a complete smegpot!" That scene had me howling when I 1st saw it
