Get Carter (1971) MOVIE REACTION!

This felt like James Bond without MI6 to back him up.

Get Carter (1971) MOVIE REACTION!

5:24 The assassin who shot Jack in the final scene was sitting opposite him in the train carriage on his journey from London in the first scene. 9:29 Old man in the pub with six fingers on his hand 17:34 Where? Newcastle. The north-east of England. The main cultural / economic divide in England is between the soft/rich south, and the grim/ poor / working class north. But when people talk about “the North” they usually mean the main northern cities of Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds & Sheffield. It is easy to forget that Newcastle & Gateshead in the North-East is another hundred miles further north, and has its own distinct cultural identity. 1:06:58 Shadow of the camera / cameraman on the bridge as Jack is walking along. This is one of my favourite films and I have probably watched it about 12 or 15 times. Congratulations on foreseeing the contract killer twist at the end. (Compare and contrast with sweet young innocent JPS who didn’t see it coming at all).

There are so many jokes, I genuinely don't know which one to go for.... but I think you meant 'Mail hole' rather than 'male hole' :D Subtle spelling change, but massive difference in meaning.

LyingSecret

In England, Most houses have a ''Male Hole'' We call them Letter Boxes. People can't steal your stuff inside your house.

Daniel Heywood

Have you of thought watching The Italian Job? The early one.

Duncan Walker

The Long Good Friday with Bob Hoskins is a good one

Stephen Giles

It was mainly shot up north in Newcastle, interesting to see what the locations look like these day's https://www.bfi.org.uk/features/get-carter-newcastle-tyneside-locations. The actress who play's Glenda, is also the mother to the founders of Rockstar Games, GTA and all that.

Brodie Vickers

Also Harry Brown is a good one to watch, he's older but still good

Dave Bond

Very Gritty film but very good, Caine was awsome in this

Dave Bond

The film was set in Newcastle, in the north-east of England, which is close to the Scottish border. Get Carter, along with The Italian Job (two years earlier), are probably the two best Michael Caine movies that epitomised him as a British film icon and even today are much loved by British movie fans! Give yourself a treat and watch The Italian Job (not the awful remake from 2003.) As Phoenix says, The Ipcress File (1965) Caine’s first top billing starring role is also a must see. He plays British secret agent Harry Palmer who is the opposite of James Bond as you could get, but it’s an excellent spy film! Caine made two Harry Palmer sequels to this one, Funeral in Berlin (1966) and Billion Dollar Brain (1967) the latter of which is more like a 60’s Bond film and is partly set in the US! Another excellent Caine film is Sleuth (1972) which also stars Sir Laurence Olivier and is a whodunnit with lots of twists and turns in it!

Andrew Roberts

That was the actor Bryan Mosley, who that same year started a continuous stint as Alf Roberts in Coronation Street for nearly 30 years.

Phil Robinson

Well you couldn’t find two different characters further apart on the social spectrum than Gonville Bromhead and Jack Carter, but Sir Michael Caine nails them both, brilliant!

Mark Williamson

That cliff who got a back hander looks so much like Peter Kay..

Bubbles

Yeah I specifically want to watch it because it has influenced so many good directors.

Brian Moran

I live five minutes walk from the "Las Vegas" guest house, the filming location at 25 Coburg St, Gateshead. The street looks a bit different now, but that terrace of houses more or less looks the same today. But then I could be here all night going on about the locations in this film that are local to me :)

Phil Robinson

Great reaction. Personally not my favourite, but It's definitely a brilliant movie. I hope you decide to do Lawrence of Arabia, as it's easily the best of the three movies you chose in your polls. it's the one movie that Steven Spielberg watches for inspiration before he directs his movies, and the one film on the list that arguably stands up to modern cinema. I think it would be a real shame if you missed it out, as it's movie perfection. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Jay

Please react to Harry brown with michael cane

Sean

Rise of the Footsoldier you need to watch

Aaron

Loved those films as a kid, I need to rewatch them, haven't seen them for years!

Mark Jones

He actually does a spy saga, the Harry Palmer films, most famous being The Ipcress file.
