Something to note about this series is that the actor that played Mel died unexpectedly not long before production of this and the special so lots of the scripts had to be rewritten very quickly after they were finished, meaning that this entire series feels rushed

Would understand if you binned it, it's one thing to watch a boring 30 min episode, but it can be painful for nearly an hour.

Horrendous voice as a so called pop singer in the 60s, to incredibly calculated "down to earth" presenter of mawkish shit like "Surprise Surprise" and the terrible manufactured shit of "Blind Date". Utterly baffling woman - no one behind the scenes had anything good to say about her. Her turn here is the most accurate portrayal of herself - screeching for her "help" (slaves in her eyes) in her villa.

2023-11-07 18:12:52 +0000 UTCKB - It's difficult I know - but this opening to S4 was never meant to happen - the re-writes that had to happen due to you know what were difficult, so here we have somewhat a bit of a reboot - it has to start again with some new characters - it does improve. A few new additions here, such as Kenneth and Liam, do genuinely grow and be great - but this first episode of S4 is almost verging on straight soap opera, rather than the outright comedy as before, and being disappointing. Almost as if some ITV executives were getting too "involved". We should probably ask series creator and writer Derren Litten what he thought at this point - but I don't think we'll get a decent, candid answer from him about that for some time. Stick with it for now, if you don't like it mid season 4, I'd say at that point make a decision. Your time is important, especially now, and no one wants to watch you with a stony face not really enjoying something. You'll know deep down.

I think the quality may have taken a hit to some people since the story had to be rewritten after Mel's actor passed away as said in DVD behind the scenes. However this epsiode has me laughing every time.

Kenneth becomes a hilarious main character as does Joyce Temple Savage (not seen yet) and lots of major celebrities queueing up to be in the show!

She worked at the Cavern Club in Liverpool where the Beatles played. Also some of her hits were produced by George Martin the Beatles producer. And she died at her Spanish villa where I think they filmed this episode.

2023-11-05 17:20:52 +0000 UTCI think the "spunk" thing might have gone over your head. The US and UK have very different definitions for the word. In the Uk is basically means jizz. In the US it means ambition or courage. This episode wasn't up to the usual standards. I cringed a lot, and not in a good way. I wouldn't blame you if you dropped the show. I think many viewers stopped watching around this time. In fact, I think I did too.
