Fawlty Towers S2 Ep5 "Anniversary" REACTION!

Fawlty Towers S2 Ep5 "Anniversary" REACTION!

Comments

I remember watching Paine (and American remake) on Paramount Comedy years ago. It was utterly dreadful.

"Boomer would also enjoy the American character in the show who adds his views on British culture." I hadn't even thought of that. Definitely! Jack Dee's character has a writer/friend who works for him, he's American and is often giving his opinions on the strange UK customs and habits he sees. It's funny. :P

Agreed, bro. It is absolute comedy/cringe gold. Jack Dee is an embittered, resentful comedy master in this. He makes Larry David look of a sunny disposition. Also, the actor (Tony Gardner) from Fresh Meat, who played the professor who sleeps with the student is in Lead Balloon. He pops up once in every ep as an extremely neurotic local cafe owner, he so hilarious in it. (btw, this is for sake of King B, if he ever happens to see the comment) Obviously you know all this, Bruce. :P I'd genuinely pay King B to react to ep.1 of Lead Balloon, to get it out there for his audience and for him and Queen B to see it. It's one of the best UK comedies of all-time, imo. 10/10. Essential UK comedy cringe viewing. Currently all episodes of Lead Balloon are up on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EubBEBvUVrw&list=PLgeGcX2U-sIF095QT4rSJK3YhWf8DK9lJ

I agree totally. Lead balloon was hidden away at an obscure time on BBC 2, and therefore, even many in the UK haven't seen it. Boomer would also enjoy the American character in the show who adds his views on British culture.

I just thought that maybe Eric Idle could have played the Roger character. I wonder if John Cleese ever thought about having any other pythons do a guest appearance.

Excellent reaction. Another superb UK series that is extremely funny, like Fawlty Towers, is 'Lead Balloon' by and starring UK comedian Jack Dee. In real life, Jack Dee was very popular stand-up in Britain in the mid 90s, his on-stage persona is of a grumpy, sarcastic, scathing man.. somewhat like Sean Lock. In the series 'Lead Balloon', Dee plays a fictionalized version of himself.. a stand-up comedian whose glory days are behind him and his career is slowing down... the show follows his many attempts to get his career back on track and also the very many excruciatingly cringing, socially awkward situations he gets himself into.. much like Basil Fawlty, Larry David, Alan Partridge, etc. Lead Balloon is top drawer UK sitcom cringe-comedy, I can't recommend it enough. There are 4 series, every episode great.

Are your knuckles ok Mr boomer? You keep having to push them back into the sockets 🫣

Industrialist2015ofUk

It was at the start and then seemed to get better.

Not sure if you caught it or not, but Manuel told Basil that Terry had called him various things, one of which was a word I'm not even sure it will let me type on here, but it's a racist thing about Italians. I think it's a scene they leave in modern re-showings though as it's said pretty fast and most people wouldn't even know what it meant nowadays. Unlike the Majors 'N word' scene they obviously cut out.

LyingSecret

This episode is easily my least favourite, but still not bad. They just pushed the unbelievability of the situation a little too far. The next episode is an absolute belter though.

Jay

The next episode is one of the funniest half hours of British television ever.

Neal Murdoch

Everything about him annoys me.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Nah, he's one of the best character's this ep. He's a jester, delightedly poking a wasps nest with a stick.

Brodie Vickers

A few weeks ago someone on here (cant remember who) said that you would find one particular sign at the entrance the funniest. I said I knew which one it would be (but we didn't tell you). This was it.

Ryan Lynch

The comb-over guy was so annoying!
