You cut off the most poignant bit at the end in the continuity.

To be fair you needed the story of Geoffrey Hutchings to enjoy this episode for what it was, people who knew what happened found this episode very emotional.

Mel played by Geoffrey Hutchings died suddenly, in hospital, on the morning of 1 July 2010. The cause of death was meningitis. He was surrounded by his family; second wife Andi Godfrey, and the three children of his first marriage: one son (Nathan Hutchings) and two daughters (Octavia Hutchings and Holly Hutchings). He was cremated at Kensal Green Cemetery, Kensal Green, West London.

I love the show from beginning to end. It’s just as hilarious all the way through and the development keeps it fresh. I just don’t see the soap opera comparison

I think with this one, as a fan, I’m mourning with them. Comedy, at times challenges all of the emotions.

This is the most frustrating reaction I’ve ever seen.
Why didn’t you wait to play the credits as it was obvious that something was different about the episode and the end of the credits is often the place to find the answer? This special was dedicated to Geoffrey Hutchings who sadly died before the Christmas special was completed. So disappointed with your incurious approach to this and the uninformed “thumbs down”. My Dad died this year and this brought it all back.

Such a sad, bittersweet ending, but you just had to press ‘stop’ during ‘Wizard’ playing and kept ‘chuntering’ through the most emotionally charged scene from a comedy show ever!

The actor who played Mel unfortunately passed away and so they had to write this episode it and then series 4 was different than planned. If you were a fan at the time you knew the actor had passed away and so the episode made more sense

Any day now Roy Wood's song will be playing in every department store, shop and supermarket constantly until the new year, as it has done for the past 40 years here in the UK. This special was packed with British TV celebs from the past. Su Pollard was in the comedy sitcom Hi-Di-Hi and Brian Murphy (Noreen's boyfriend) was in the very popular sitcom 'George & Mildred'.

The act at the end was 'Roy Wood and Wizard' performing 'I wish it could be Christmas everyday' This was a massive hit in the UK back in the early seventies and is still played a lot every Christmas here, it obvioulsy didn't make it to the States hence you not hearing of it KB.

Unfortunately Geoffrey passed away before they recorded the episode! This episode I never tend to rewatch as it’s not really a proper classic funny Benidorm really. Series 4,5 and 6 are all excellent. After that is when it goes down hill!

The real actor of Mel passed away in real life which threw the scripting I think this was more make shift just to write the character Mel out of the show for obvious reasons. Please continue with the benidorm reactions.

I don't think i have spoiled anything. Letting him know where the characters have gone but reassuring him that he does come back. Series 7 is a long time away. Gosh, I try to do something nice and informative, and this is the thanks i get.

I think the actor of Mel passing away threw a lot of the script out of the window, they had to quickly re write it I think

The special was a letdown but in fairness they had to rewrite the whole show at late notice due to the death of the actor who plays Mel. Series 4/5 are good, goes downhill from there.

Su Pollard was a household name in the UK mainly in the 80s as she was in a sitcom called hidehi( by mentioning this I’m not suggesting a reaction😂)So understandably you’d have missed a few references 🤓😉

Geoffrey Hutchings, who played Mel, died after series 3. They'd already written the Christmas special so had to do a hasty rewrite to put in Mel's death. So I understandwhy it didn't really land with you. Viewers at the time were very moved by the ending, as they knew prior to the episode that the actor had died. Johnny Vegas and Telle moved in together. Telle never returns but he does in series 7. Also, Martin ceases to be a regular charcater from now on, making a brief return in series 6. Kate never appears again. Series 4 introduced a lot of new characters. Some of them were very funny but it did change the way the show was written and perhaps became more of a soap opera than a sitcom. For me, the show stopped being enjoyable after series 6, though still went on to produce 10 series in total. Series 2 & 3 were the show at its best.

Heartbreaking this one! I’m sure I heard that they had to rethink the special due to the death of the actor.
