Only Fools and Horses TO HULL AND BACK Reaction!

OFAH The Movie?  It was a good one!

Only Fools and Horses TO HULL AND BACK Reaction!

Comments

@20 min,I'm glad to hear that cos I've been calling you "bruv" here and there for a while now....👀🤷‍♂️👌😂💜

Adam Hale

My favourite ever episode. Good to see you react to it. I feel a few jokes went over your head but that’s only to be expected 👍

Ominous

My favorite special - superb

Justyn

Jim broadbent said himself its the one character he played that hes most remembered for played it to perfection👌

Theloyalmuppet

Ajax are a football (soccer) team in Amsterdam

Oliver Chapman

It was a registered blind person.

CraigRed

The reason this feels more like a movie (other than the absent laughter track) is that it was filmed entirely on FILM - instead of the usual studio cameras. You can see how much better the flat and Nag's Head look as a result.

Rob Walters

You've probably been told this a hundred times by now but Rodney is in the new Frasier reboot on Paramount+

Jason Bonner

You completely missed the imogen joke. That was the girl kissing the guy in the pub. That was the girl that rodney was just about to break up with.

Andy Waller

Should watch Rock&Chips, it’s about Del Boy as a teenager and Jay from the inbetweeners is Del, Neil is in there too

Lewis

I feel uncomfortable watching that ending! no matter how many times I see it I just can't get used to it

sean

I was going off the wiki page so if that's wrong then I'm wrong.

Chris C

I think "A Royal Flush" was another one (could be wrong, but sure that was all shot on film), the black sheep of all OFAH episodes IMO, but - as ever - no spoilers here.

Phil Robinson

I never thought Only Fools would travel so well to the US due to the language barrier but you are picking it up surprisingly well. I you love OFAH then you must add 'Minder' to your list of reactions. Its a classic comedy drama from the same era and like Del Boy the main character Arthur Daley will soon become your favourite British TV icon.

Jason Bonner

Never seen this is one its always just kind of bypassed me. Not sure I like the film look to it, apparently this was 1 of only 2 episodes shot on film instead of video the other being Miami Twice part 2.

Chris C

@David, I'm gonna chime in and answer this too if you don't mind. Father Ted, IT Crowd, The Fast Show, Black Books are a few of my all-time favourite comedies. Plebs I am brand new to, but really enjoying.

Steve Read

I never noticed that before, haha

Steve Read

Love this, I actually remember watching it when it came out Christmas '85! It is as good now as it was then!!

Matt Wells

My favourite bit is Denzil telling Del he promised Corine, he'd stop drinking, stop gambling, and stop seeing Del, then a few seconds later he tells Rodney he see's Del everywhere - in the betting shop and the pub! Denzil's a great character, luck never seems to go his way.

Adi Hughes

if you visit the Uk you’ll have to visit Yorkshire (Gods country), Leeds own the west, Hull own the East, Sheffield own the south and York own the North, all top cities in my opinion!!

Jackkk

I’m from Hull! We all drink yorkshire tea here, none of that pg tips rubbish!

Jackkk

Out of interest, what are your favourite UK TV comedy shows that you do find funny?

BigChanChan

Yep definitely. Man Down is my all time favourite UK TV comedy show.

BigChanChan

hello fellow Leeds dweller!

Silly Uncle Andy Farmer

I live in Leeds, West Yorkshire, its about an hour's drive from Hull. Keep up the great work and I'm so happy Queen Boomer and Princess Boomer are doing well.

Little Jimmy

Best thing about only fools is it's mix of drama and comedy. it doesn't try too hard to be funny because it doesn't need to. The characters and storylines are always amazing every episode

Dale M

I don't find benidorm, plebs or a man down that funny at all. I don't even watch them. Comedy is subjective mate

Dale M

Jolly boys outing, miami twice and a royal flush and Rodney come home and of course time on our hands. All my favourite episodes including this one ☺️

Dale M

The first of the proper OFAH Christmas specials which became a British Christmas tradition. The best ones are Jolly Boys outing & Mother Nature's Son but you've got lots of iconic episodes before you get to those.

Neal Murdoch

Love this reaction some good episodes coming up then there isn’t one that I think is bad

Mark Parker

I live in Grimsby (the town which was mentioned in that one episode where Grandad was locked up in a spanish cell), which is just the other side of the Humber, about 20 miles from Hull. The Humber Bridge is a architectural masterpiece imo, it was once originally the largest suspension bridge in the world. Costing just £1.50 each way to use the bridge, it is also one of the cheapest tolls in the UK

PuNKD Steven

I checked on the Bank of England's inflation calculator and today it would be £44,175.19, which currently equates to $53460.81.

Martin N

King b, if you like the word “Bruv”, take a look at this 😂 https://youtube.com/shorts/63CCgy7PA14?si=G2n6SSbocbLESIvH

Lee Organ

@Charlie Costa taste is subjective. Considering Fieryjack loves the other comedies being reacted to, I guess he does have a sense of humour. Just not the same as yours. I'm as massive fan of Only Fools, but respectfully I wouldn't insult others that don't agree. KB's Patreon forum has been a really friendly place so far, and it would be a shame if it descends into a slagging match over what's funny or not. I don't see the point of anyone stating they hate something on a thread just for the sake of it (seems like baiting), but he never said it was "shit", just that its not for him.

Can't wait to watch this reaction, and agree that this episode is a turning point that cemented Only Fools as an all time classic. Also respect the commenter on this video (no names mentioned) was was brave enough to mention that they don't find this show funny. Only Fools was never consistently hilarious throughout its run, but I don't think that was ever the point of its success. A lot of Brit TV comedy around the 70's to 90's was successful in combining comedy with drama and character building. Only Fools succeeded in creating a world that resonated with so many people, becoming part of our culture. It didn't always have to be laugh out loud funny to be good. I always felt it to be like a soap opera, where you fell in love with the characters and wanted to see them evolve. The comedy aspect was just part of the appeal, and when the humour was at its peak it was brilliant. It just wasn't always the sole reason for its success in my humble opinion.

Jay

just for context the average UK house price in the 1980s was £19,000 so £15,000 then is about £215,000 now.

Joe

Remember after series 5 all the episodes are at least an hour long and all the specials become 90 minutes or so. And the writing starts to become amazing, because it’s now proper good story arcs in each episode. Rather than a mediocre episode leading up to a chandelier falling (for example), the whole episode becomes a really good full story with loads of good moments and the other characters outside the Trotters get really fleshed out.

Sam Dilks

It is the Humber bridge I believe it was the worlds longest single-span road suspension bridge back when it was built in 1981, as a child my parents used to visit family in Hull and it was being built so every time we went it was a bit longer, Least that's how i remember it as a 6-year-old. It is in Yorkshire if you want to visit.

Daz

So now you've seen this, you'll notice the show now keeps the pace and the episodes start to tell a story. This episode will also explain future story lines. Each of the "extra" characters really come into their own now too, like Boycie, Mike, Sid etc. It's now that the viewer feels invested personally with the show. I'm so glad you're watching this and enjoying it

Clare Hollylee

Me too, that one is incredible.

Richard M

You do realise this was voted the nations greatest sitcom of all time, by a landslide. Some people just don't have a sense of humour and you have provably not even attempted to watch any episode, because if I found something unfunny I wouldn't watch it. You are provably a young kid that's too stuburn.

Charlie Costa

I Lived in Hull for 12 Years and I believe it's like the 6th or 7th biggest City in the UK, it is a thriving City, always jumped on the P&O ferries to Amsterdam, always got great deals like half price tickets from the local Paper. This is special to me because I Live in Peckham and grew up in Peckham, so to see an episode with Hull Connections is great. Yes this was a feature length and my favourite feature lengh is still yet to come, Jollies boys outing. It changes the shows complete direction when a certain new character turns up.

Charlie Costa

Ajax

Kevin Liversage

Only 3 episodes recorded without a laugh track, this one being the first and 2 later on. I really can't wait for the Don ochetti episode

Jehan Ariyaratnam

One of my favourites, when we went to Amsterdam we found as many locations from the episode as possible, including Van Cleef's office and the bridge where Uncle Albert runs out of breath

Arlasoft

A royal flush is such a weird cringey episode, I still like it though

Jehan Ariyaratnam

An absolute OFAH classic, there is another movie style episode a bit later and it'll be a little bit "closer to home" KB if you know what I mean, no further hints but it's quite a bit on in the series, should be a while before you get to that one and I really can't wait!

Jehan Ariyaratnam

According to calculator online, £15000 in 1985 is £58000 today

Ryan Lynch

John Sullivan tried for years to persuade the BBC to let him make a TV movie of OFAH. They didn’t like the idea. In the end he threatened to quit unless they let him, so they gave in and let him make To Hull and Back. He wanted it to be like a heist movie

David Ridley

Yay Xmas special.

Bubbles

It's in my top 5 specials, but not episodes as a whole.

Steve Read

My brother is the same and it blows my mind. I think it's because I quote it to death, mind you. OFAH is among the best writing and acting of any sitcom ever made.....in my opinion.

Steve Read

The bit you couldn't hear: Slater got some guy to confess to being a peeping tom, when the case got to court it was revealed he is a registered blind person

Chevy

Jolly boys outing!! 🤣

Sam Vimes

A true Classic episode of a classic show

Sam Vimes

Here is what’s next: - Series 5 - 3 Xmas Specials (A Royal Flush, The Frogs Legacy & Dates) - Series 6 - 2 Xmas Specials (Jolly Boys Outing & Rodney Come Home) - Series 7 - 10 Xmas Specials

AWR93

Personally this is top 2/3 for me. As well as being good, it’s a special, ( longer enjoyment ) I’ve seen this episode the most out of them all and it brings back the best memories from my youth. Plus I love The Nederland’s, especially Amsterdam. 👍

Pee-Wee Stairmaster

Trust me, it only gets better and better from here on out, especially Season 6 through 7 and the specials in between, You'll really enjoy "Miami Twice" when you come around to it.

Sam Deanz

Luvly jubbly! Been waiting for this since I subbed haha

Michael May

this is the only programme that you watch that i find unfunny, love the rest of the shows though :)

Fieryjack

This was pretty much the breakthrough episode of OFAH, that transformed it from a good sitcom to a great one and put it firmly in the national consciousness. The following three series after this one are all superb, with series 6 + 7 getting bumped up from 30 to 50 minutes length, and there's numerous brilliant specials to follow (and a couple of rotten ones!).

Joshua

Trust me there are much better episodes ahead, this is good but not top 5. "it's standing up there on a glacier mint" is one of the funniest lines in this episode but sadly you and even others from the UK won't understand the joke unless they knew the advert for the candy it's based on.

Phoenix

Ohhhhhh I've been looking forward to this one 😁

Clare Hollylee

Agreed although jolly boys outing still takes the number 1 spot for me

connor

One of if not the best episodes.

Anthony Lee

Love this episode the specials from now are all movie length long all brilliant to
