Legendary episode. πŸ˜‚πŸ₯—

Jason Scade

A third season is coming. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-64563839.amp

Henrik SjΓΆman

KB he's actually Canadian. Bruce Boa. He was in Empire Strikes Back, Full Metal Jacket, the list goes in tons of stuff

Andy Farmer

I can only take hot climate for a short while. It's so cozy when it's raining and cold outside and you're all warm in doors listening to the rain. Great reaction. One of my favourite episodes

Dale M

I seen him I. ''full metal jacket'' as well.. as one of the army generals.

Dale M

I've always been in Basil's side in this episode. The American is unreasonable, ordering something not on the menu then complaining they don't have the ingredients to make it.

Neal Murdoch

Where did you learn this? is there an interview or something on it?

James

You can do the sea ski thing where I live but without the sun lol chilly

Kiwi Tau

The funniest thing is this is based on a real person. The Pythons stayed at a hotel, and the owner was batshit crazy. He got angry with Terry Gilliam because his table etiquette was "too American," which I believe inspired this episode, and he threw Eric Idle's briefcase out of the window because he thought it contained a bomb. Everybody moved to a different hotel except for Cleese and his then wife, who stayed to research him, which led to the creation of the show, and Basil is based on him.

The American was actually played by a Canadian actor called Bruce Boa, who lived and worked in England and often played Americans on screen. Boa also played General Rieekan in The Empire Strikes Back.

Ash X

That American guy (Bruce Boa) is actually Canadian (Calgary). He is briefly in 'Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back' too.

Wilss

Give it a rest. You're embarrassing the rest of us by association.

I swear Jane gets more cute each time I see her. Looks like u finally got that sleep u needed king boomer.

dubs

This will never happen.

Phil Robinson

I was making fun of the mindset of snobby Americans after WW2. You know, the ones who think we won every war we participated in when in reality we haven’t truly won a war since 1945.

Brian Moran

They ended world war 2 by stopping imperial Japan to be fair

Jehan Ariyaratnam

I love America and Americans. But whats all this "after we won all those wars". Korean war there was no clear victors. Vietnam war, well USA lost that. the World Wars, turned up late and they were won because of all the allied countries. Afghan, scarpered and left all your military gear. Gulf, well that you had help too from allies. And the current culutre war that being lost and giving in to the neo-marxism too. So what wars did the USA win?

Iain Wallace

Interestingly after almost 50 years John Cleese has recently been writing a reprise of Fawlty Towers about a hotel run by Basil and his daughter in 2023, depicting Basil trying to come to terms with the modern world. It's meant to be released next year some time. It probably won't be as good as the original but im sure it'll be well written

Jehan Ariyaratnam

If you thought this was a the best one so far, you aint seen nothing yet. The next one will knock your socks off.

James Steel

I love the jokes taking the mick out of UK/US roads and cars - "couldn't find the freeway, had to take this backstreet called the M5" "Oh I'm sorry if it wasn't wide enough for you, a lot of the English cars have steering wheels" "Oh they do, do they, you wouldn't think there'd be enough room for them inside" As a kid a lot of those jokes went straight over my head but totally makes sense after I first visited America
