Brilliant episode

Justyn

The illuminous paint must've worn off πŸ˜‚

Chris Blackman

I had a boogie box in the 80's, would walk around with my mates blasting INXS and pink floyd and shit, btw in Glasgow we called them boogie boxes not boom boxes. Redundancy money is what employers give you when they have to let you go.

Gary Mcatear

Arguably one of my favourite episodes! Glad so many other people seem to like it too

Michael May

Looking forward to to Hull & back, the first of the proper Christmas specials. The knees up Mother Patel joke was a reference to the London song knees up Mother Brown.

Neal Murdoch

In the months leading up to her death, Mottley became depressed about losing her job and developed an addiction to cocaine and alcohol. Her addiction led to debts of Β£25,000 (equivalent to Β£85,000 in 2021). On Valentine's Day 1985, Mottley’s body was found in her Shirland Road flat in Maida Vale, West London. She died from suicide by overdosing on alcohol and barbiturates. She was 31 years old. She left one suicide note to her parents and another note that was only partially legible

Daryl Hudson

Not to be disrespectful to the dead but didn't she die due to an overdose as she had a alcohol and drug addiction? Like I said if I am wrong I meant know bad intentions just confused with you saying it wax suicide. Did you know her Cousin is prime minister of Barbados?

Charlie Costa

Also when ever you hear the term "jobcentre" it's where you Had to go every fortnight to declare everything you have been doing in the last 2 weeks looking for work to receive government money. This was sent to you in a check around 2 days after every time you declared at the Jobcentre. It's all changed now to universal credit, you declare everything on line and receive your benifits straight in your bank monthly. Anyway, next episode is one of my favourites and it's a special feature length Episode 'to hull and back" you will love this.

Charlie Costa

the reason Denzel's wife didn't appear in this episode was because the actress who played her Eva Mottley had committed suicide aged 31

To Hull and Back is one of the best πŸ’ͺ🏻

Redundancy is a compulsory amount of money paid by the company that employed someone, if they are made redundant. i.e. their position isn’t needed any more. Sometimes this can be voluntary redundancy, if the company is planning to downsize for example. So if someone was thinking of leaving soon anyhow, they can opt to get redundancy money when they lose their job and help the company with their downsizing. The amount of redundancy depends on how long a person has worked for the company. https://www.gov.uk/redundancy-your-rights/redundancy-pay It is totally separate from unemployment support, which is paid by the government while a person is out of work and seeking a job. It’s called something different now I think.

Gary Tamblyn

I thought it would be the same in the US but redundancy here means that you have not been fired due your standard of work but been let go often due to either the economy/company fortunes and/or the job is not needed at the company. It can often be used to fire someone who they want to but don't have the right to as they will often say that role is retiring but then have basically the same role with a slightly different title and responsibilities. When they go down the route of redundancy, they will calculate how much to give you based on how much your current wage is, how long you've been with the company and I believe other benefits you were receiving. For most standard jobs it's something like a week pay for every year you've been with the company, so seems like Denzil was either with that company for quite a bit or on really good money especially for 2k back then. Also the knees up mother patel was a play on knees up mother brown which is this popular cockney sing song and he is mocking the indian music basically saying it is not catchy sort of how you'd say "Who's this? The modern day Shakespeare?" bout someone who is not good with words

Matt

Next episode is one of the all time greats! πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

Dale M

Zip it up and email it on wetransfer or something :)

Dale M

In the UK, you can't just dismiss someone if they have done nothing wrong. By law you have to make them redundant and pay them redundancy money, or get sued to hell for unfair dismissal.

UltiNega

Same prob my top 3 episodes

To Hull and Back is one of my very favourite episodes. Just a warning, it’s about 1 hour and half long and there’s no audience laughter but it’s so well written. Can’t wait for next weekπŸ‘Œ

Sam Dilks

Looks like king boomer has a few of them doors himself!

Ryan Clarke

To hull and back next!!

AWR93

100% the best show ever written.

Andy Waller

Well we had Knees up Mother Brown as a like an old folklore cockney pub/war time song type thing. That’s what Del Boy is referring to

Sam Dilks

King Boomer = Daddy Boomer

This. And a redundancy payment would be a lump sum of money you'd receive when terminated. So Denzil lost his job (we find out in later episodes what he does for a living) through no fault of his own, and he got a lump sum of Β£2,000.

SJB

I agree, there's some absolute fantastic episodes to come that are on a completely higher level to what KB has seen so far, so a must watch and the whole journey of the characters brings you in like no other show as it adds layers of pathos as well as humour in the coming season's... There's also one two-part special that is great fun and without giving spoilers, will connect with KB in a different way to the other episodes!

BigChanChan

Redundancy means something different here in UK than the US. Redundancy means you losing a job either voluntary or enforced redudancy for economic reasons or changes within the company. Companies when going through a infrastructure change may offer a big redundancy package to mutually end employment. Redundancy is not the same as being fired for something like incompetance or misconduct. It just means your specific job role has become redundant. Choices for employees would be to either take a redundancy package or maybe take another role within the company.

Iain Wallace

What a great surprise to see this reaction pop up! Apparently, to hull and back is a hard episode to find, so do let me know if you struggle to find it. I have it on my hard drive, so I may be able to send it to you somehow.

Lee Organ

he will have access it just up to him and princess boomer how far he goes

Craig McCulloch

Great reaction. Next episode is the series 4 Christmas special "To Hull and Back". It's a feature length and has more of a movie vibe to it than a regular OFAH episode. Will go down as one of the all time great episodes. Can't wait for your reaction. Denzils back again and another guest character returns( won't spoil who). After this you have 3 more series (5,6 and 7) and 14 Xmas specials, 3 between the end of series 5 and 6, 2 between series 6 and 7, and it ends with 9 specials after series 7. I really urge you to do the whole show- you will not regret it and I reckon you'll think it's one of the greatest shows you ever reacted to!

Jehan Ariyaratnam

The next episode πŸ‘€ Congratulations once again king and queen boomer 😊 OFAH is also officially your first show to react to since becoming a father 😊
