THE BOAT THAT ROCKED aka Pirate Radio (2009) MOVIE REACTION!

I've been wanting to watch this with Queen Boomer for a long time.

THE BOAT THAT ROCKED aka Pirate Radio (2009) MOVIE REACTION!

Comments

"It's ever so slightly more than 3 boats!" Lol and *air punch*.

Joe Thornhill

How is this after Talulah Riley was in Doctor Who? She looks younger.

Joe Thornhill

So it’s losley based on the radio Caroline

Adam

Didn’t realise it was a sandbank where you hear that?

Adam

This has always been one of my favourite Richard Curtis films. It is his love letter to music. It is just a shame the Beatles don’t feature on the film’s soundtrack at all—rather an omission, for obvious reasons, which I suspect was due, not to the fact that Richard Curtis is not a fan (I’m sure he is, given his later 2019 film about the Fab Four, Yesterday), but legal reasons: whoever held the rights to the songs at the time being somehow unreasonable, charging too much, or being overprotective of their property. I’m sure others have pointed out that Chris O’Dowd (Simon) and Katherine Parkinson (Felicity) both star in The IT Crowd, which—along with many other Boomerites, I’m sure—I recommend to King Boomer for future reactions. Chiefly because it was written by the comedy giant that is Graham Linehan, who could have given up after Father Ted (which he co-wrote with Arthur Matthews) and would have been immortalised. But he followed that work of genius with another in The IT Crowd, as well as Black Books, which became a favourite of many. (Nowadays, a concerted campaign is being waged by blue-haired woke trans activists to cancel Linehan, to ruin his livelihood and his life—all because he is an advocate of women and children’s rights. So, to me, he is a hero several times over.)

I was going to say that! It is an odd fact, somehow. I discovered it when she showed up in the documentary series “The Elon Musk Show” by the BBC. Not sure if this series was made before or after the Beeb turned on Musk for purchasing Twitter and reintroducing free speech (gasp!). As for the film, I’ll write about that in a separate comment.

Matthew Roberts

Ralph Brown (Bob) is also in 'Withnail and I' which would be a great reaction vid too

Tris Outlaw

Love Actually would be a good one to watch at Xmas

Chorlton Outlaw

Fun fact: Marianne was played by Elon Musk's second wife!

Manly Stump

Rock and roll!

Chay Davenport

It’s from Norfolk Swaffham in Norfolk in England

Chay Davenport

Chay Davenport

Chay Davenport

I love Jane you both

One thing that bothers me slightly is if they were in the North Sea chances are they hit a sand bank so probably wouldn't have sank just stranded. Good movie though with great cast, good to see some of The IT Crowd in something else.

Chris C

Loved this movie and really enjoyed both of your reactions to all the plot twists too! Now I want to download the soundtrack..

Queen Boomer's kneecap is the perfect keecap for someone to draw a smiley face on. With a felt tip. (US Sharpie)

Cat Man

Can Queen Boomer explain the Dirty Pelican in more detail please? I thought us Brits were weird enough with Dogging!

AdamMcAdamface

Never seen this before, as I recall it had a lot of negative reviews when it was released and I’m not a big fan of Richard Curtis’ films. However, it’s good! I know you advise people to watch things on their own before they watch your reaction, but honestly, it’s good fun to discover something new while also watching you react to it, and I probably wouldn’t have watched this movie without your reaction. Good work Boomers!

AdamMcAdamface

Wow. I have never heard of this film before. Fantastic!

Steve Read

Boomer, If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend the Rhys Ifans movie 'Enduring Love'. Also starring Daniel Craig. It's an excellent thriller that show's off Rhys' more serious acting ability.

Daryl Hudson

great choice watched this a few years back. took me right back to the 90s when garage music were playing on pirate radio stations around the east end of london.

Bubbles

I remember the pirate radio stations from when I was a teenager was the only way to listen to modern pop music The BBC and the Government tried lots of ways to shut them down but happily never succeeded Their answer was radio 1 on the BBC playing pop music but many also still listened to the Pirate Radio stations Good to see the Queen reviewing more All the very best to all of you

Lewoody

It's hard to overestimate just how important pirate radio was in Britain in the sixties. You couldn't hear much pop music on conventional radio stations, and what people did hear was pretty tightly regulated, so when the pirate stations came along it changed everything, it played all the artists that the existing radio stations weren't interested in and pretty much soundtracked the ultra-cool "swinging" Britain that's so venerated now. When Radio One came along as the first "legal" pop music radio station in Britain, it was because the foundations had been laid by the pirate stations. They also made sure that a couple of decades later, people were exposed to hip hop and house and alternative rock and all sorts of other music that again, the major stations just weren't really interested in but ended up becoming hugely popular and influential. And the film is alright too.

Charlie

confusing Cedrick Digory for Harry Potter - the shame

Craig McCulloch

Never seen this and always meant to. Worked on some smaller amateur radio stations in my younger days, broadcast range about 8 miles if that. Half the folks there grew up with pirate radio and recommended this to me.

Ryan Lynch

Carl is in the sandman tv show the main guy dream.

Nothinghalo
