I rewatched it last year. Hadn't seen it since I was a kid. I had no clue how dark some of the humour was at the time lol.

I've just started watching One foot in the grave for the first time in forever!! I think the first episode was first aired in 1989 and me only being a year old (born in 1988) has kinda resulted in a rather hazey, slightly non-existent recollection of just how brilliant this show was!! Tbh i think the most i can remember of the show from when i was a kid is the brilliant theme tune!! *Performed by a certain someone from Monty Python? Hmmm now ya intrigued aren't ya K.B?!! Really hope you check it out and react to it soon!! Classic comedy!! Whilst I'm here I've gotta suggest one of my all time favourites and that's Men Behaving Badly!! I guarantee you'll love that show for sure, just power through season 1 with Harry Enfield, the show really steps up come season 2 with Neil Morrissey!! Not an episode from then onwards that won't have ya roaring!! :) I think the queen will approve as well mate. So I've got my fingers crossed for them reactions soon, but until then much love to you and the queen!! Take it easy bud. Mx

Queen really starting to glow

if you like these sort of british comedies. you should definitely watch one foot in the grave.

I'm not surprised at all that Ted didn't air over there, execs think Americans can't relate when there are non-American accents and certainly wouldn't want to step up against the church in the 90s. The real surprise is that there wasn't an attempt to make "an American version" that removes anything remotely funny and misses the point at every opportunity.

One Foot in the Grave was a very popular 1990s sitcom starring Richard Wilson as the angry and cynical Victor Meldrew, who gets into all sorts of strange and surreal situations designed to make him more and more angry. His catchphrase "I don't believe it!" was popular back then and Wilson complained that he had fans shouting it at him several times a day. This Father Ted episode shows Richard Wilson getting his own back on fans who thought it might be funny to repeat a catchphrase he had become sick of hearing... Good on Richard Wilson for being a good sport about it.

Was hoping they’d watch a best of victor meldrew vid on YouTube before this episode. Wouldn’t really make much sense or be as funny if you didn’t have that context.

I agree it's OK/nothing special, but I would not say it's anything similar to Father Ted. Father Ted is more cartoony and silly whilst OFITG was your more traditional sitcom-y sitcom more closer to something like Only Fools

Matt

This episode is amazing if your not American and understand the joke

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

Sad there’s only two episodes left, if it’s any consolation they are both *very* good ones, i think you’ll enjoy them

They say somehow, despite it being 30 years after it was first used, its still the most used catchphrase in the UK. And we had a hell of a lot of catchphrase based comedy shows in the 1990s.

A lot of people have commented on One Foot In The Grave. In my opinion, it's OK. It's a similar comedy style to Father Ted. I prefer to be smacked in the face by comedy (like the Inbetweeners), OFITG and FT just sort of tickle me.

Victor Meldrew is a legend around here

Simon Westerman

i dont believe it!

Tim Salt (Tim Salt Writes)

You have to say it like victor meldrew

John smith

Come on I’m only 20 and I know what a stills camera is, it was only about 2014 when phone cameras became good enough to replace them. “Im not from these times” you weren’t alive in 2014 then?

One Foot In The Grave is a superb sit-com. That is Richard Wilson in this epsiode of Father Ted. The actor who plays the main character Victor Meldrew in One Foot in the Grave.
