Fawlty Towers S1 Ep1 "A Touch of Class" REACTION!

I decided to go old school with the next new show to react to.  It definitely paid off!

Fawlty Towers S1 Ep1 "A Touch of Class" REACTION!

Comments

Such a superb show, I remember being shown this when I was 15 (about 18 years ago!) and fell in love with it immediately!

Ryan

Basically, Fawlty Towers was made because it was based on a real hotel experience they all had while they were on location filming Monty Python somewhere. Cleese decided to make a TV series about it. So a lot of these situations you could say almost happened in real life. Also Cleese's real wife is in this at the time was Polly was his real wife. Unfortunately, they did divorce, but they are apparently still civil with one another.

DJ RJ

You do have 1 Lord following you, you are right I am a Lord

Cameron Allan

This first series screened in 1975, so almost fifty years ago ! The second series was delayed by a series of strikes by staff at the BBC, so didn't screen until around 1980.

Rich

Top class. 😂👍

Jason Scade

The class system is deeply embedded into British society, very much still the case today. Great reaction. Fawlty towers in based in Devon - The English Riviera. Very beautiful coastal towns and villages. I think this is in Torquay, a popular tourist spot.

Rebecca Musson

The best comedy show of all time, I love Only Fools and Horses but Fawlty Towers is just another level of genius comedy.

R Lilms

Love these reactions. Would love to see you react to the Vicar of Dibley. Think you'd love it! 😀

Nick Cossins

yes i agree with also starring a very young simon pegg too

Amanda

I agree, Bottom meets Fawtly Towers

Luke Barron

If you like Fawlty towers, I recommend Guest House Paradiso (is basically Bottom: the movie). Very violent, very gross out

James Pepper

Blackadder is my all time favourite programme thanks to my dad watching it when I was a kid

Erica

Anyone moaning about paying £5pm has failed in life or is a child who shouldn't be subscribed in the first place!

BigChanChan

Well done on the detective work KB....You nailed it!

Simon Cross

How dare you, you pleb!! ;-)

Simon Cross

Definitely bro

Steven Iceton

I think the point is that Basil's a snob and is probably somewhere between upper and middle class, but he thinks he should be associating mostly with the upper class and people who have more standing in society like doctors etc. The working class are peasants to him and he can't stand cockney characters like the CID detective, because he thinks they're well beneath him.

Jehan Ariyaratnam

Even though it's set in Torquay, the location shots of the town and the hotel are about about twenty miles west of London. The real Torquay, 200 miles away from there, looks very different. Basil seeming wildly unhappy is pretty much on the money though, he's a huge misanthrope perpetually on the brink of a nervous breakdown. His obsession with class and social climbing is kind of a running joke throughout Fawlty Towers. Believe it or not, John Cleese was only 35 years old here.

Charlie

You and me both fella 🤞⚒️

AitchyB

Not sure if anyone has said but the opening credits pay attention as the sign changes every episode.

Ian Moses

Yes KB you can buy online a piece of land which is a tiny square and you get deeds etc and so you become a lord or lady of that land.

Ian Moses

Hopefully KB starts a reaction series on it but if not, give it a month and start it mate it's a great series

Cain Culley

Please do! I have not yet seen it but have been meaning to watch them.

Steven Iceton

I can’t tell you how happy I was when I got this notification. Fawlty Towers is my favourite thing ever and after a long shitty day I’m going to sit back with a bag of Doritos and watch the King

Lauren Massey

It's an amazing show! Definitely worth a watch

Craig Day

Good reaction.

Al May

Nice! You nailed that prediction! Eat your heart out queen boomer! You have some competition now 😂

Lee Organ

Don’t mention the war

AWR93

When you get to Blackadder, absolutely skip season 1. Unlike other shows, season 1 has no connection to seasons 2-4. Season 2 is basically a reboot, and changes everything about the show, except for a few reused character names, but the personalities of those characters are completely changed. Imagine if Mr Bean suddenly became Basil Fawlty, that is the level of difference.

UltiNega

Get in KB! One of my all time favourite shows! Please carry on with this it doesn't disappoint!

Jay D

If you're familiar with British accents you can notice "Lord Melbury's" posh speech dropping from time to time. It's a big clue but it's easy to miss the first time.

Shoomer1988

Wouldn’t even bother giving these guys the reaction (pun intended 😉) that they want Boomer, not worth it mate honestly. Ignore them and just keep doing what you do, there are substantially more people here who love the channel than those that don’t

Tam Wright

Iptv David 😉

Shelley

We do still have lords, and such, but they're not really revered except by a certain segment of the population who lean older and conservative, who care for that sort of thing. I think the majority still support a monarchy for the moment, but not so much the nobles. The idea of peerages and heredity titles are out of fashion.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Brilliant, glad to see you react to such a classic show, I prefer that you react to loads of different stuff as you upload so often it's still worthwhile, and I've seen 80% of the stuff you watch already anyway so I'm only watching for your reaction, it's the net though, it's full of whinging twats, ignore them all and keep on doing whatever you like, when you like.

Mark Jones

Also if you want to watch these shows now in the UK most of them you have to pay for, dont get why people keep complaining. (Britbox)

David fallows

I'm hoping for Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie in the near future

Bubbles

I hope he reacts to Steptoe and Son at some point. Its something I've never seen myself so itwoukd be great to watch it for the first time with King.

Andy Waller

Exactly. I don't watch the Benidorm reactions as I cannot stand that show. But I appreciate that others do like it, so I just don't watch when it's a benidorm reaction. Simple really as there is loads more to choose from.

Andy Waller

Absolutely COYI. I'm getting nervous already. 😂😂

Andy Waller

I started off watching his reactions to inbetweeners and only fools, however in the time waiting for his new reactions to the shows I’ve seen before, I started watching shows I personally have never seen before such as bottom and man down and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed those shows all thanks to KB, so instead of whinging and moaning, some people should try out one of his reaction shows they’ve never seen before and maybe they’ll have the same view ☺️

connor

When you do get to Blackadder, just be aware that it's a divisive one. One group of people will tell you that the first series (season) is absolute bum water, that you should start after the soft reboot and advise that you only go back to the first if you really want to at the end, the other group will tell you that it's not anywhere near as bad as the first group say and you should start at the start.

Z is for Zed

DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING.

Z is for Zed

I believe it was while filming Monty Python and the Holy Grail that John Cleese came up with the idea for Fawlty towers. It was set in Torquay, while the Python crew were staying in a hotel in Torbay, when they came across the rudest man they'd ever met, the hotel owner. He was the inspiration for Basil Fawlty. It was written by Cleese and his then wife Connie Booth, who plays Polly, the maid and waitress in the series. They didn't want the quality to drop, so hence why they only ever made 2 series.

Yaapsdad

You definitely should dude, I'm not one to recommend shows just for the sake of it, I think you'd genuinely enjoy it, also very British 😅 you can watch it in your own time but I think you'd get a good reception if you uploaded it too ☺️

Cain Culley

After this John Cleese and his wife, at the time Connie Booth, who plays , wrote Fawlty Towers.

Yaapsdad

Oh I definitely think he’d love steptoe and son.

Shelley

Father Ted and Fawlty Towers share the same staircase. At the top.

James

I believe it was when they were filming Monty Python and the Holy Grail, staying in a hotel in Torbay (Fawlty Towers is set in Torquay) that they came across the rudest man they'd ever met, the hotel owner.

Yaapsdad

Regarding the nobility, the average person in the UK finds the whole thing vulgar and ridiculous. If I heard anyone refer to themselves as Lord I would immediately think less of them. Having said that, the class divide in the UK is still very much alive.

James

I’m actually dying to watch that show because I’m a big Benedict Cumberbatch fan.

Brian Moran

Faulty towers is a classic.

Yaapsdad

Tbf it’s not as bad on here, I mean yeah people moan but in a respectful way if you get what I mean, no nastiness. It’s still irritating though, there’s quite a few shows that kb does that I aren’t much for so I just don’t watch them, it’s really simple isn’t it 🤷‍♀️

Shelley

if i hear anyone refer to themselves as lord i immediately think twat

Daniel

Have been waiting on this coming around. One show I'd love to see you do is Sherlock, with Benedict cumberbatch. One of the best shows I've seen and hardly any reaction channels have done it and I think it would open your channel to a new audience, the few channels that have done it have got good views so the viewership is there. But hey, anything you react to I'll be here. Keep it going 👑

Cain Culley

Stone me you can't seem to catch a brake these days. 🙄.

Bubbles

@Shelley Just the comments on this video alone sums up how impossible it is to please everyone. In one corner you have people complaining that certain shows aren't being done fast enough, and then you have other comments asking for reactions to different series. It's just mindboggling how people expect reactors to cater for every single person at the same time. It's exhausting just seeing these things play out, let alone the thought of any reactor having to deal with it on a weekly basis.

Jay

This patreon is becoming like another one I’m on, people constantly whinging in the comments. Not as nasty as the other one tho 😂

Shelley

John Cleese having a tantrum, in anything, is always hilarious

Steve G

Well I’ve never actually watched this so I’m looking forward to watching it. Love your reactions ❤️

Shelley

Definitely the office, I love that show

Shelley

You can buy titles? That’s pretty wild

Brian Moran

Agree wholeheartedly

connor

You had your brain in today, well worked out :) Also I love Fawlty Towers, it's as funny now as it ever was. I came for Bottom but I'm more than happy to fill the gaps in with other stuff, especially this. Glad you liked it.

Simon T

Yay! Next up, I'm Alan Partridge please, then The Office, then Extras. Perfick.

Louis Hessey-Antell

Mate, nobody's forcing you to subscribe 😂

Amber Steward

Unrelated but COYI ⚒️⚒️⚒️, big day tmo

AitchyB

The Lord and Lady title don't carry much weight these days, a whole branch of my family bought each other titles for Christmas

Caine

Honestly you have to have patience their are shows like red dwarf that I don't have the taste for but I understand some people love it. Can't always have it your way in life pal that's the way it is.

David fallows

If you didn't know, "Polly" was John Cleese wife for a while. These episodes just get better and better! Love it when Basil has a tantrum!

sam cobley

ooof, some of the comments here. Personally I'm paying £5 a month, which averages around just £1.20 to £1.25 a week. For that I get access to all of Boomer's unedited Youtube stuff, and exclusive Patreon stuff. I'm not the wealthiest person in the world, but even I know that's a very reasonable amount for the work Boomer puts into this channel. From what I've seen, King Boomer is getting through every series at a good rate, and has been honest about putting certain things on hold. It's also apparent on these channels that it's difficult to please everyone, so I assume King Boomer is trying to give some variety to the channel. Perhaps we should start putting proper value on someone's hard work, as opposed to complaining or threatening to leave. Especially after both King and Queen Boomer have been dealing with trolls recently. Just my two penneth, with no ill will towards anyone that feels upset.

Jay

He can do whatever he wants? Watch Father Ted by yourself dude

Liam Milligan

I don't agree. A variety of shows keeps things interesting, plus he consistently and regularly uploads. If he only did one or two uploads a week, you may have a point, but he's already done 7 different reactions in the last week.

Joshua

I heard that too

Bubbles

Looks like other people agree too according to the likes

Luke

Nope subscribe for other shows but you know exactly what you’re doing man, you’re milking it now 😎

Luke

You subscribed just to watch one show you’ve already seen several times over? I’m sorry dude but you made a bad purchase…

Brian Moran

Yay you are going to love watching Fawlty Towers. I'm also proper old school for when it comes to British comedy... Bless this house Till death us do part Step Toe and Son George and Mildred the list goes on for the 60s and 70s

Bubbles

Out of the last 11 videos you reacted to 10 of them are different series’/topics. It’s just filling up the schedule more and more forcing people to subscribe another month if they want to watch what they subscribed for cause it takes longer and longer but ok👍🏼😂

Luke

Close the door on the way out!

Peter Andrews

Father Ted is literally scheduled for tomorrow but ok

Brian Moran

Great series and got 3 episodes of father ted that are absolutely crazy

Tim Salt (Tim Salt Writes)

Another new show??? It’s not worth subscribing anymore when the queue for current programmes is just wayyy too long. You’re on season 3 of Father Ted - finish it off and then react to something new. I’m not subscribing for another two months just to see Father Ted finished, it’s just getting a bit much now man.

Luke

Couldn't be a happier patreon than I am right now 😁

David fallows

Delighted that you're doing this. The funniest British sitcom ever made, in my view. And as it's only 12 episodes it won't take up too much of your time.

Joshua

Such a classic series - only 12 episodes but went down as one of the greatest British sitcoms of all time. Apparently John Cleese is starting a new Fawlty Towers almost 50 years on, starting later this year
