The Imitation Game (2014) MOVIE REACTION

I did not know too much about Alan Turing before I watched this film.  A sad story but we owe this man a lot!

The Imitation Game (2014) MOVIE REACTION

Comments

One of the films that never fails to tear me up. It's such a tragic shame for the way he was treat. Such a good movie.

Liam Cooke

They missed out on Churchill turning up and saying...''Give them what they want.''

Daniel Heywood

I've never been gay, but I think I might turn straight for Keira Knightley if I was.

Daniel Heywood

I absolutely love this movie. Thanks for your reaction to it.

Kim Cornwall

I think the ‘medication’ given to Turing was meant to ‘cure’ his homosexuality, by lowering or (they hoped) removing his sexual urges completely, as back in the day ‘doctors’ thought homosexuality was a disease which could be cured.

Andrew Roberts

Goodnight Mr Tom would be a good movie to react to

connor

Sad to say I have not seen this movie so this will be my reaction to somebody else's reaction to a film I haven't seen 🤣👍

Amanda

Ahh yea..it is. Mad episode that one

Alex

If you make it to the UK you can always visit Bletchley Park still, could prob do Harry Potter tour as well which is not too long a train ride away

Peter Andrews

Fantastic film and brilliant acting

Ian ‘Flinty’ Flintham

The incident at 1:28:00 with the guy's brother being killed, is similar to an actual incident where Churchill allowed the City of Coventry to be bombed by the Germans. Churchill had prior knowledge that the city was about to be hit, from intelligence gained by the Enigma decoder, but had to allow it to take place for the exact reasons mentioned in the movie. It was a very contentious issue, with many Brits turning against Churchill for not giving Coventry warning. I remember my Grandmother never forgave him for letting that happen, as she lost family in that bombing.

The actor who plays the young Alan Turing is Alex Lawther who also stars in an episode of Black Mirror, which you should also watch.

If you go to the UK, go to Bletchley Park. You can see his machine running.

The fee wasn't really money, the fee was the British empire being signed over. Germany has only just stopped paying it's reperations in recent years, reperations for something forced upon them not something they started. True history is not taught in schools.

NEXUS

regardless, this is not a valid response to my comment , and the victor writes the history. there were many factors whybgermany responded the way it did, the french taking all the coal in the rheinland and freezing the germans in the early30\s, the discrimination of Jewish companies not hiring non jews etc... the list goes on and on . someone always has a justification for their their actions .

'That's how I feel when I do 4 or 5 reactions'. Priceless comedy :D

plus moneys after the war were borrowed from the us to the uk were repaid Great Britain has paid off the last of the loans it received to rebuild the country after World War II, sixty years ago. The last payment of US$83.25 million was transferred electronically to the United States on the last business day of 2006, along with an additional US$22.7 million to clear a similar debt owed to Canada. The original loan of US$4.34 billion, equivalent to about $27 billion in today's dollars, was negotiated in 1945 by John Maynard Keynes to protect the country from bankruptcy. Canada contributed US$1.2 billion, or an equivalent of about $7.5 billion today.

A blitz documentary would be good, all major cities were bombed including Birmingham. My great nan’s work place was bombed a few times

Ollie

it was Roosevelt that tried to supported the war effort to the uk between 39 and 41, the american public had no appetite and didn't want to get involved in what they saw as a European issue, especially after ww1, it was only peal harbour that really triggered the public and congress to support the war. The Lend-Lease Act of 1941 stated that the U.S. government could lend or lease (rather than sell) war supplies to any nation deemed “vital to the defense of the United States.” Under this policy, the United States was able to supply military aid to its foreign allies during World War II, while still remaining officially neutral in the conflict. Most importantly, passage of the Lend-Lease Act enabled a struggling Great Britain to continue fighting against Germany virtually on its own until the United States entered World War II late in 1941.

Jed Baker

Seen it

Yeah, unfortunately, it was a crime to be gay in both the UK and the US around that time and before. He's considered one of the fathers of computing, and of AI. I wonder what he'd make of the world today, we've come a long way in both technology and social progress. It still shocks me how young he was when he achieved what he did, and then died. 41 is no age at all, really.

You should try the movie The Courier also Starring Benedict, it's better than this film and also a true story regarding the cold war and the missile crisis.
