I’ve noticed Americans look for story-arcs, pay-offs, character development, redemptions etc…whereas British tv is more like a series of ‘sketches’, keeps things more on the surface and pokes fun at people’s misfortune. Oh and as far as I know Robin Williams was very much loved in this country, I think that line was supposed to be controversial.

2023-03-29 18:57:35 +0000 UTCSeason 3 is great, Season 4 is considered by many to be 'peak Peep Show'. Although peak is the wrong word as it stays great after that, but there are so many iconic episodes and scenes in S4. You're in for a wild ride!

2023-03-29 17:02:37 +0000 UTCA lot of British comedy characters are socially awkward and/or narcissistic, but deep down they are not horrible people. The great thing about Peep show is that Mark and Jez are actually quite horrible individuals at times, and you rarely get any feel good moments, but you still keep on rooting for them. The writers did an incredible job to pull that off!! Another example of this is Alan Partridge (hint hint!).

2023-03-29 14:47:25 +0000 UTCRe. good things happening to the characters, Ricky Gervais said once that American kids are told they can do anything they want, but British kids are told it'll never happen to them, and there's still a lot of class elitism - probably more now than there was twenty years ago, actually - and for that reason we're kind of suspicious and disdainful of successful people, because why should they get things when the rest of us don't. There's a lot more to it than that, but it's too much to put in a Patreon text box.
