Also, the anime, even with all filler removed, is a pretty shitty adaption in a lot of areas, the technobabble got mangled a bunch of time, and comedy elements got played up quite often

Ah, this again. Not going to try to defend the series as a whole, it's got tons of dumb shit especially later on, but you're attacking it for failing to convey a message it was never actually espousing. Naruto was never a series about hard work overcoming talent. That was the theme of a very specific character, Rock Lee, who get wrecked in both fights after his initial appearance. The first episode wasn't "Naruto, I understand you because you're an idiot" it was "Naruto, I understand you because you're acting shitty out of loneliness", which gets hammered in again and again, with Haku only having Zabuza, Gaara not having anyone, Sasuke having lost everyone, all the way on up past the timeskip to people like Pain/Nagato. A bunch of your points are spot on, but you ignore stuff like, say, the actual theme of the wave arc (ninja's don't have to just be emotionless killing machines and can make the world a better place) and that people can be attracted to and care for people they aren't actually that close too.
