Achilles Asylum: 1940s Internship Program

An internship program was developed to attract "fresh blood" to the ranks, so that the experienced ticklers could pass on their knowledge and techniques to a new generation.
The recruitment process began with an application in which the young men were encouraged to explain in detail why tickling fascinated them. In most cases, they had been on the receiving end of prolonged torment by siblings, school friends or a sadistic older relative. The best applicants had a particular hunger for the opportunity to turn the tables that the experienced doctors could sniff out.
